Grandparents to the rescue. DH and I made our escape and went to see San Andreas at the cinema. Smile

Good luck for the driving test to mini muffin.

Nice Cardigan

because my presence in the house seemed to be very annoying

I am with you in spirit Grin

Ds had a couple of cracks at his driving test - I feel your pain on more than one front.
I only wish he were sticking up quotations everywhere Sad

Littleham , was San Andreas any good ? DS1 and I always like a good disaster movie and indeed over Easter holiday watched a thing called The Flood about the Thames Barrier flooding, on the TV. Joanne Whalley , Robert Carlyle , David Suchet , Tom Courtenay

Preposterous but also good in a way Grin

Would not be as good as your idea about the hurricane / eye of the storm re exams . I think you should work that up into a film. Perhaps Poldark chap battening down the hatches whilst bellowing about Gladstone and Disraeli Smile

Anyway all good wishes to everyone. We are a couple of exams "OK" here, one "errrr" , one sounded like question 1 was welcome 2 not so much Confused . I am going to look up clearing in a serious way.

Anyhow to all of you whose DCs have unconditional offers , I salute you and am unashamedly envious

I wish DD had an unconditional offer too. I have booked results day and the next day off work, and am then off for the weekend. DH has arranged his shirts so he is off for the first few days of the following week. We are assuming that DD may be in clearing and are being prepared.....we have not told DD that obviously! DD herself knows that clearing is always a possibility as is a gap year (although part of her now fancies this as 2 friends are off travelling).

hellsbells99 · 31/05/2015 09:27

Not shirts....shifts

hellsbells99 · 31/05/2015 09:30

And if the results are good? Well, DD has wrecked the wallpaper in the snug by blutacking revision sheets everywhere, so we can use the time off for decorating!

AtiaoftheJulii · 31/05/2015 09:53

Lol hells !

Dd1 has gone completely nocturnal - it does seem to be her natural body clock and she often ends up like it during holidays. She has spent the last two nights working - seems to have done 3 or 4 C3 papers last night plus some English. Just going to let her get on with it this week, then sort her out at the weekend I think!

hellsbells99 · 31/05/2015 09:55

Atia - DD just revises with all the curtains closed. I have asked her if she is a vampire Wink

Littleham · 31/05/2015 11:02

Hocus. Preposterous but also good in a way just about sums up San Andreas. We really enjoyed it. Grin

Last year we prepared a lot for clearing as dd1 had one really bad exam. It wasn't necessary in the end as she went to her Insurance choice but at least I know what to do this year so it won't feel quite so panicky.

Feel quite fortunate here as DD1 prefers to in the library. Even found one a few miles away Thats open Sunday, though does tend to try and keep Sunday revision free.
Not looking forward to four exams in a row, starting 9 June.
Think she is secretly less stressed as even though UCAS choices slightly aspirational, has an EE music college offer, so technically unconditional. Even if thats what she decides on, still wants to get best grades she can though, as sure they will get looked at post degree.
UCAS insurance only one grade below firm, and gut feeling is that firm would allow a dropped grade and insurance probably won't.
Can't see her going through clearing as too anxious about accommodation. Not even sure if she would be eligible to with the CUKAS place.

Littleham · 31/05/2015 11:55

The whole dropped grade thing is a bit unpredictable. The universities publish the actual points that their candidates got last year. Weirdly enough people went in with higher points to dd1's insurance than to her firm (which rejected her). I don't understand it at all. Confused

OP posts:
circular · 31/05/2015 13:51

Littleham Just going on what was said on open days about what the 'typical offer' is and several on the course not getting that.

I thought published points included things like music grades, which may explain what you saw. DDs first choice typically shows around the 400 point mark for her courses but typical offer is ABB, being 320, plus a possible 4th AS.

Littleham · 01/06/2015 10:26

Thanks circular. That might make sense as Bristol is very big on music so it could have bumped up the points average.

DD2 doesn't have an exam this week, but it all starts the week after.

Thanks for the good wishes re DD's driving test - she passed! So pleased. She has an exam tomorrow so this will be a great boost for her.

There's an article on the BBC news website today looking at the disparity in pass rates between different driving test centres. Ours has one of the 10 lowest pass rates in the country. Shock Glad she didn't know that before going in.

Horsemad · 01/06/2015 14:30

Congrats and safe driving to your DD muffinmonster!

Very well done to your dd muffinmonster! My dd narrowly avoided crashing into a white van which cut her up in her driving lesson today. She said at least she got to practise her emergency stop Grin

NiceCardigan · 01/06/2015 20:08

Well done to your DD muffinmonster and good luck for the exam tomorrow. Starting to look forward to the exams actually starting here - first one on Friday.

Horsemad · 01/06/2015 21:16

I've just emerged from the midden that is DS1's bedroom; honestly it looks like it's been ransacked - papers/books/files on every available surface. I'm not sure how he reaches his bed at night Confused

Only went in to search for a book he's 'lost'. Didn't find it but in amongst the 18yrs worth of stuff I found his wall chart of the Periodic Table which he asked for when he was 7!!!! Reduced me to tears, seeing that! Am better now after a Wine though! Wonder what other gems I'll uncover when his room gets mucked out after the exams?

Horsemad Not sure how he reaches his bed at night.
At night - contents of bed go on floor.
When they want to use floor - contents of floor back on bed.
Simple.
