What is the dress code for open days? There will be plenty of playing, so there will be no anonymity for DD1, they will know who she is.

circular · 26/11/2014 11:15

Rabbit for DD1 normal Uni open days were just jeans. No playing, but various conversations would have prevented her remaining anonymous.
Uni taster days, one of which she
played at, again very casual dress.
Didn't go to GSMD open day,
She did smart performance dress
for auditions. But again that varied from suits to smart casual to bordering on evening dress (singers).

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 26/11/2014 11:24

So jeans would be ok? No question of DD1 wearing performance dress (we will leave home at 6:15 and it will be COLD and we will be on trains for ages) but she could wear something a bit smarter than jeans and still be comfy and warm, e.g. a jumper dress, a skirt jumper and woolly tights combo...

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 26/11/2014 11:25

She's going to be doing lots of playing including on her second study instrument. Shock

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 26/11/2014 11:27

She got a lovely comment yesterday from a teacher (English) that she is a pleasure to teach and always makes a stunning contribution to lessons (this was an official comment accompanying some kind of merit mark, it's on the online info system for parents). I'm considering making her get it tattooed on her head. Grin (TBH it was nice to hear something positive for once)

AtiaoftheJulii · 26/11/2014 11:30

Would have thought jeans would be fine. The open day is for the institution to impress the prospective candidate, not the other way round? Even for music, hopefully.

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 26/11/2014 11:42

If they hadn't been doing tutorials/masterclasses I wouldn't have had any hesitation about jeans. I don't think it will matter to the tutors, actually - but if DD1 feels 'out of place' that will stress her.

Horsemad · 26/11/2014 11:44

DS is wearing smart casual (dark jeans & shirt) for his visit day and informal interview.

circular · 26/11/2014 13:41

Rabbit If your DD feels more comfortable in the sweater dress and tights, I'm sure she won't be overdressed. The other thing you may want to consider though us how hit the building is likely to get.

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 26/11/2014 14:03

oh, she's always cold. Grin

I expect she will wear jeans though.

Littleham · 26/11/2014 14:45

Oh my goodness - she has only gone and done it!!! Interview at Oxford.

We are all in total shock. Shock Can't believe it.... just can't believe it. We caused total chaos in a café by shrieking (sorry café owners... they must have thought we were quite mad).

Yay well done!!!! Bet your all ecstatic did it come by mail or email? She can frame the letter if it came by post. So happy for you:) celebrations I bet tonight

Littleham · 26/11/2014 15:00

I think I'm numb actually. Don't care if she gets an offer in January (still impossible odds). Just so pleased she will get this experience. Came by e mail, but stuff it...I'll buy a frame!

I've been banned from telling anyone in real life, so I can only talk to you guys! Smile

polkadottyme · 26/11/2014 15:09

They do say if they get a interview it means they are oxbridge standard, so that is something to be very proud about :) the girl did brilliant having great supportive parents too is a credit to you guys too. Print the email and frame it:) fingers crossed for the interview. Having something to aim for will give her confidence and motivation to work her little socks off.
