If you want to attract the attention of others who have been in the same position I'd start a thread about unconditional offers and peoples' experience of them in the Higher Education section. Like I said, I'm sure there were a couple of people who had this last year. I'm not going to name them in case I've remembered wrong - but they are still active posters so if you start a thread, and I'm right, they will respond.

MrsBartlet · 14/11/2014 19:16

That's amazing mumslife. No wonder she is chuffed!

Anthracite · 14/11/2014 19:34

Dipping my toe into this thread...

DD pressed the button on her UCAS application on Tuesday and already has 3 offers :)

mumslife brilliant news for you DD. If UEA would have been her first choice then if she firms the offer she is in - complete pressure off in terms of A2, won't matter whether she gets A A A* or UUU, or even if she did not even take them. I think part of the logic is that hard working DCs will still keep focused and do their best, but without any of that nagging doubt in the back of their mind / or full scale panic :)

DS1 had an unconditional last year - irrespective of whether he firmed or insured it. He would have also got priority in terms of accommodation section, plus a fee reduction based on actual grades achieved - could be worth checking if UEA offer anything in terms of the latter to add even more icing to your DD's extremely well iced cake. In the event it would have been his third preference so he did not go with it.

Unless there is some very sneaky small print, which would very surprising, it is maybe one of the best early Xmas pressies that she will ever get. Well done to her again!

Antaresisastar · 14/11/2014 19:49

Wow Anthracite, that was quick. What is she applying for?

Anthracite · 14/11/2014 19:53

She's applying for Politics and Economics. Manchester and Sheffield gave their offers within 24 hours, so I imagine they are fairly automated based on GCSE grades and teacher predictions. RHBNC 48 hours. All great places.

Well done to your dd as well Anthracite. Some of the offers are so quick this year!

mumslife that is tremendous news for yours daughter. Well done to her.

anthracite they sound like great offers. What's RHBNC, though?

DD got her first offer today, from Hertfordshire, which is her 'safety net' choice. It's cheered her up as she is surrounded at school by high fliers who already have several offers, some unconditional.

DD has applied to Newcastle and has not heard yet.

RHBNC = Royal Holloway.

AtiaoftheJulii · 14/11/2014 21:19

mumslife how fab for your dd! You must be so proud Smile

And Anthracite, well done to your dd! So nice when the offers come in quickly Smile

circular · 14/11/2014 21:27

wow, amazing Mumslife your DD must be so pleased ! really takes the pressure off.

muffin great news for your DD too.

Well done to everyone else too, getting too many to name but that can only be a good thing.

No sign of DDs going in just yet, PS being messed about with by her form tutor who she claims 'knows nothing' and not impressed by his odd changes.

polkadottyme · 14/11/2014 22:17

Mumslife- congratulations you can't get better than that a unconditional and its where she wants to go. It put the pressure off her this year for sure. They only give unconditionals as I gather to students who they feel are self motivated have good running academic record. She certainly deserves it. Worth celebrating, plus sounds good on a CV that she got unconditional to go to uni as it shows she obviously is highly sort after. I wish Nottingham would give my dd a unconditional.

Decorhate · 14/11/2014 22:30

Fantastic news Mumslife! One of my dd's friends also had an unconditional from UAE & have heard of a few from Birmingham & Leicester too. As others have said it means they really want her

cathyandclaire · 14/11/2014 22:45

Brilliant news Mumslife, an unconditional for her first choice is truly the holy grail of offers! Well done :}

Horsemad · 14/11/2014 23:48

Oh mumslife, an unconditional for her first choice is AMAZING!!!! I am so pleased for her.

Welcome Anthracite.

Thread is getting busy now Grin

Antaresisastar · 15/11/2014 00:28

Ds had a second offer today, Loughborough AAB. So, in theory, even if he doesn't get any more offers he has a firm and a great insurance. He would really like an offer from Leeds though, we both really liked it there. Only his twin sister to sort out now!

hellsbells99 · 15/11/2014 08:09

Great news mumslife! DD liked UEA a lot but didn't list it in the end due to the journey from where we live. Norwich is a fab city. Unfortunately DD has no chance of any unconditional offer due to her choice of course.
Well done to everyone else who has offers!

At DD's Bath interview, they stated that if they wanted them and they are predicted high grades, then they will make them a high offer as they didn't want to be the insurance choice! If they are 'only' predicted BBB then they may give them a lower offer of ABB to encourage them. So the better the AS and predicted grades, the higher the offer - this wasn't how I thought it would work. I assume this is why some of your DCs' offers for Exeter have been so high - so they won't be an insurance choice.
