We seem to have reached the limit on the other one!

My younger daughter is completing all her GCSE exams is one sitting unlikely my older daughter who completed modular exams. In total DD has 24 exams starting 26.4.14 and ending 16.6.14. She is averaging 4/5 exams per week - almost one a day. This is overwhelming she is both mentally and physically exhausted with another 6 to go. Is anyone else finding to whole thing just too much ?. Older daughter only had 14 in the summer, as some papers were taken in Yr 10 or Jan of Yr11.
10 GCSEs in one go is all too much !

Leeds2 · 08/06/2014 21:37

What is a surd?

MorvahRising · 08/06/2014 21:40

Leeds2. You may well ask. I have not a clue. Let me go and ask DS who is in the shower.

Apparently a number in terms of a square root! Well, that's reassuring that he knows!

DS has been having a Maths meltdown all day.. He was in the top set, then dropped to the bottom, then got moved up, and following his 'C' in Jan, is now doing the Higher paper tomorrow.. Problem being, he has never been taught half the stuff in past papers he says Confused

I've just told him to 'do his best', as can't think what else to say! (am really bad at Maths)

Last uniform wash done, by this time next week it'll be on its way to a charity shop! Grin

Must get uniform out the wash, to dry over night.
Will wash it to keep jumpers for DD2. There a bit big, but they are expensive. Skirts will fall off her and DD1 can use her black trousers for sixth form.

I really must not horde DD1's past it blouses and summer polo shirts. DD2 has enough of her own, is far slighter and likes fitted shirts. They will just take up space!

Nocomet · 08/06/2014 23:00

I prefer having terminal exams to modules.

The problem here has been we haven't had that.

We have had stress since Christmas with music, drama and art causing multiple panics. Composition, two performances, 10 hour art exam and the sketch book from hell to accompany it, final drama performance, music creative task, then and only then exams.

Oh and music and drama both have the most ridiculously spelling heavy written exams you could give a dyslexic. Indian musical instruments and foreign character names.

Yes I did 8 three hour exams (some two in a day) and one short additional maths paper, but they were all after half term and over in three weeks. We also had study leave from Easter and didn't have any revision classes.

Phaedra11 · 09/06/2014 06:49

Good luck to everyone's DCs who have Maths today!

Lancelottie · 09/06/2014 08:27

Bloody awful, isn't it, Nocomet? DS has similarly been up to his ears in composition, science controlled assessments, drama, geography field write-up and - oh god - a Statistics assignment. He's the sort of child who can only think one step ahead, so he barely started revising till the blasted controlled assessments were over.

SupportManager · 09/06/2014 08:40

Very best of luck and everything crossed for all the people doing Maths today. Feeling nervous for DD who has struggled and pushed herself for all these years to make some sense of Maths and this week will test whether all her efforts have paid off.

Leeds2 · 09/06/2014 09:01

DD did IGCSE maths, and that finished before half term. Seems funny for people still to be talking about it, iyswim. Good Luck to them all though!

DD has Latin today.

AtiaoftheJulii · 09/06/2014 10:11

Good luck to the maths people! Mine's not doing it today (has a maths AS module tomorrow) but I have got a tutee sitting Edexcel :)

AtiaoftheJulii · 09/06/2014 10:12

And good luck to Leeds's ds for his Latin :)

Leeds2 · 09/06/2014 10:52

Thanks, atia. Have to confess to being more than a little worried! Good Luck to your tutee, and your DS for tomorrow. Have you many tutee's sitting exams this time?

DD has five exams this week in total. Latin today, then chemistry, RS, physics and Latin again. Wish at least one of those had been last week, when she only had one English.

marymoocow · 09/06/2014 11:21

text from DS is that maths was 'good'. The first exam he has sent me a text aboutHmm .

nostress · 09/06/2014 12:31

Edexcel maths Ds texted 'good' and then some chat about forgetting his dinner money. DS's GF texted 'absolutely horrendous, I think I've failed my entire life :( :(" ... Fingers crossed for all those desperately hoping for a C! I looked at a past paper yesterday and it was way way over my head!

eatyourveg · 09/06/2014 13:00

ds said maths (edexcel) not as bad as expected but everyone found it hard, even the boffins were complaining. One of his mates hoping to do A level maths thinks he's now screwed.

According to ds it started off as beyond obvious and slowly got harder until the last two questions which were nigh on impossible. The last one was "like something off of university challenge and it took me ages just to work out what they wanted me to do" Thankfully no need for 37, the number he puts down whenever he doesn't know the answer.

He had been hoping to scrape an A if it had been a good paper which he's certain he's now missed but still seems more relaxed than his friends. Not sure that's a good sign but I'm happy he did what he could

MorvahRising · 09/06/2014 13:06

Oh double bugger, DS does Edexel! Won't find out til 3.30 as he has a crammer for tomorrow this afternoon. He'll be devastated if he thinks he's messed up. Arrgghhhh!

legallady · 09/06/2014 13:09

Another Edexcel maths here - harder than she would have liked but "not impossible." Lots of problem solving questions apparently. Hopefully the calculator paper will be nice and easy Grin

bruffin · 09/06/2014 13:19

DD had been doing past papers comfortable with 35 minutes to spare, this morning she ran out of time Shock

3littlefrogs · 09/06/2014 13:24

Today's maths paper included stuff that is not on the syllabus.
The whole class found the last question impossible, so some comfort there.

sidneypie · 09/06/2014 13:36

Text from DD about Edexcel maths paper ' was ok, not great but not too bad' .

I think that means she did OK!

Nocomet · 09/06/2014 13:47

DD1 thought Edexcel (linear, higher) was easy, except for the last question, which they hadn't done. She says she put an educated guess.

She says no one used their extra time. Which she usually devours because she doesn't know her tables. (She can do trig, but has to scribble her 3xtable in the margin and she still can't read a analogue clock reliably.)

Waves to bests DS and hopes he got a nice paper.

Unexpected · 09/06/2014 13:52

Oh Lord! DS1 is home from Edexcel Maths and thought it was soooo gooood (from his text). While this should fill me with joy, reading all the messages on here from other people's DC, just makes me feel he must have mis-read the questions or forgotten the last few pages or something!
