I met this Scottish man and he is simply amazing and wonderful, so interesting and kind with the sexiest accent ever, es the best. I went to scotland for the first time with him and fell in love with it. Would i be crazy to move there???!

I want an Indy Scotland. You don’t. I do get what you’re saying but surely we can agree to disagree.

I lived in rural North East Scotland for 30 years. It isn’t some rural, frozen, power starved wasteland 🤦🏻‍♀️

There were power cuts during a couple of the most recent storms, but those can affect any part of the country.

Tbh, I feel the heat worse. We’re not that used to it!

I know quite a lot Aberdeenshire well but not a lot of the coast. As I said we have relatives that live there. I think it is a lovely place but I personally would not like to live there in winter.

I'd respect the Indy lot more if they dropped the fantasy that Scotland must be financially supporting England, or England would be happy to let Scotland go. It's not about that. And if Scotland gets independence, Indy supporters will get a nasty shock - life will become much harder and more restricted. Just the bureaucracy of disentangling Scotland from the UK would take decades, I imagine (much worse than Brexit). And while you're about it, let's drop the fantasy that Scotland gaining independence would miraculously lead to competent and ethical politicians springing up from nowhere to lead the country.

What could the SNP have done to improve their chances of 1) gaining and 2) succeeding at independence? They could have put all their efforts into recruiting competent and honest people and making the country a better place than it was 20 years ago. They had every chance to do that, but they chose to do the absolute opposite. And all of this has happened in clear sight - do you think the EU haven't noticed?

What in particular are you happy about? What do you think they've done well?

I’d be here all day. Mitigating most of the harmful UK policies, eg the bedroom tax. Ensuring coercive control is a crime. Stopping right to buy. The Scottish child payment. Free transport for under 22s. Free university fees.

And in all likeliness not top of her mind.

This thread has devolved into the worst depiction of Scottishness. Many people have ignorantly derailed and trampled all over the OPs thread without giving a single fuck.

I live in NE Scotland. I couldn't tell you the lasf time we had a power cut.
I've never been snowed in and tbh some areas of England like Kent and Derbyshire often have worse winter weather.

I would like a teeny bit of the heat all the English people are moaning about though 😀

To be honest, I think that the multifaceted awfulness of the SNP Government, and the fact that they can be as incompetent and corrupt as they like and they still get voted back in, seemingly forever, is very much something that someone should take into account when deciding whether to move to Scotland or not. I'd also throw in the dire state of the education system (for anyone considering having children), and the similarly dire state of NHS Scotland (for everyone). The potholes are cope-able with where I live, but in some places they really do make a difference to the quality of life.

I’m sure it would be great, though it is much colder in winter than the south or midlands of England, as you’d expect.
What is your job? I heard or read that it is extremely difficult to get a permanent job ot be promoted in the Scottish education system if you are not a Scot. I would double check on the situation if you have professional qualifications in your field.

The qualifications are different as Scotland has an entirely different education system. It’s not about nationality. It’s about qualifications. 👍

@Minasama It's extremely difficult to get any teaching jobs in a lot of areas simply because they're not advertising them as permanent. I've never heard this connected to nationality.
As regards promoted posts they'd be glad of any applicants as very few people want to apply for them.

That is true and relevant for any teachers thinking of moving from elsewhere. To teach in Scotland you need a Scottish teaching qualification, at least in State schools and there is no "Golden Hello" or training on the job as there was when I lived in England. (Something I considered but decided against).
