Good luck OP! I love Aberdeenshire (we have friends in the area) and Aberdeen itself has some gorgeous buildings, and it's glory days will return. I've always found it friendly. The beaches are fabulous. Dunotter Castle is the best castle anywhere in the world.

It was a very divisive and destabilising time. The scars are only just healing even though the whole winning NO vote side were incredibly magnanimous to the defeated YES voters. The SNP failed to respect the result for a single minute, hence 12 Scottish Tory MPs for Theresa May on a No to IndyRef2 platform.

I don't recall it being "divisive" at all. People have always had differences of opinion on Political matters, and most people are perfectly capable of discussing them, accepting the difference, and not falling out over it. There is still clearly a huge difference in opinion on this matter going by polling, yet it doesn't appear to be causing Scots to be unable to go about their lives, so what precisely is "divisive" about it?

The SNP have governed Scotland entirely in keeping with the result of the Referendum, and the binding aspects of the Edinburgh Act, since 2014. If you want to go down the road of examining who has "not respected the result", go look at all the promises made by "Better together" about increased Devolution, then examine the actual content of the Smith Commission whereby they determinedly set about dismantling every single one of those pledges.

Then there's all the "energy prices will rise, you'll be kicked out of the EU, food prices will go daft" etc. Thank god we voted "No" and none of that happened eh?

"Divisive" is just code for the fact that Scottish people became dangerously politically engaged for a while, and there was a fair prospect it might lead to constitutional change. It's only ever used by people who wanted to maintain the status quo, because it paints being engaged and interested as somehow undesireable.

Personally, I thought it was great to see so many people actually contemplating Scotland's constitutional future for once, especially young people becoming engaged with an aspect of citizenship which often bores them to tears and leads to total disengagement. Seemingly there are people who consider engagement a bad thing and would far rather folk just stopped thinking about politics and went back to eating their cereal.

84.6% turnout. Young people should have the chance again. 12 years later. That was my youngest’s first vote and he came with me to cast it.

I was outside Holyrood as the polling closed, and felt like a total rotter because a young couple, perhaps early 20s, asked me if I thought the vote would be "Yes". All smiles and misty-eyed, but I felt I had to be honest with them and said "No, time isn't quite yet". They were aghast, but I wasn't about to lie to them, and as Scots you need to get used to disappointment pretty quickly, so I saw it as a learning experience for them. 😛

I really wish we’d won. For them.

Then that night, for some mad reason, the people who did win decided to celebrate by grabbing saltires off wee lassies, assaulting people and trying to set fire to George Square while hoisting their Union Jacks.

The weather is awful (particularly up North!). It is why I won’t move back to Aberdeen. However, if weather doesn’t bother you, it isn’t an issue! Other than that, it’s fabulous! I am a Scot living in England, but I love my visits there every few months. 🥰

If the vote is for independence will you support a further referendum against independence/ pro union once Scotland is independent or do you see it as a one way thing?

Keeping running referendums at huge cost until you get the result you want seems a sub par way of running a country to me.

I hope the OP has a very happy time. Aberdeen is a beautiful place and Scotland is a great country. We have our political differences but that doesn’t mean we don’t all love our country.

I will leave in the event of independence but with a heavy heart.
