So, OP, are you a Reform voter?

What do you expect now in Scotland?

What?! You realise that being throughly fed up of the Scottish Government, who have achieved absolutely heehaw in their years in power, does not translate to being anywhere near a Reform voter?
What will happen in Scotland? Well, presumably the Scottish Parliament will continue 'governing' (in that way it doesn't really do at all) Scotland and there will be a lot less SNP Grifters in Westminster, taking the pay and simply shouting about how everyone is worse than them.

I would love it if the SNP got around to doing something about Health and social care, education, child poverty, drugs deaths.....but I am guessing they will just be weeping into their whisky wondering where it all went wrong (HER NAME IS NICOLA YOU FUCKWITS)

What on earth makes you think that? There's nothing OP posted which would suggest that.

Mm but it fits in with the false narrative that if you don't support the SNP then you are a right-wing, unionist, war loving, trans hating bigot who doesn't want the best for Scotland. Traitors, so to speak.

motheronthedancefloor · 05/07/2024 19:58

who has won in Invernessshire then - Lib Dems?

Yep - you got me in one 🙄

FFS, it’s just more of the same of nationalist guff. If you don’t vote SNP you’re variously a Tory/English/not a real Scot/ a traitor/bigot/racist/trans denier- and now the latest, a Reform voter.

What I expect now is an improvement in Govt - and given the utter incompetence of the SNP that won’t be difficult. Anyone who doesn’t think that’s going to happen is so firmly captured by nationalist rhetoric there’s no point in trying to persuade them otherwise.

I'm so confused, why has the SNP candidate already conceded defeat if there is going to be a recount?

Ok, I asked as Tory voters appear to have translated to Reform voters to a greater or lesser extent, at least in Aberdeen north (if I heard that correctly).

I also wondered if there was something specific you wanted to see bearing in mind that the new incumbents don't have a magic wand.

MendingTheNets · 05/07/2024 20:14

SirChenjins · 05/07/2024 14:17

Yep.

@Bettyscakes if you want to report misogyny try emailing the SNP.

I emailed my SNP MP about the importance of preserving single sex spaces. He didn't bother to answer me, so I emailed again. Someone on his staff eventually emailed back with some mealy mouthed bollocks, which finished with a quote from the delightful Mhairi Black about trans rights. Emailed back to say it was probably unwise to quote MB regarding women's rights considering she called women like me cunts. Never did hear back...

But my MP did lose his seat yesterday and I couldn't be happier.

SirChenjins · 05/07/2024 20:33

Sadly that doesn’t surprise me @MendingTheNets Of all the things to focus on, demolishing women’s rights shouldn’t have been the priority for the SNP.

I'm about to email Swinney.
I'm also going to email my SNP MP (O'Hara) and my MSP (Minto).

I have no doubt that none of them will respond.

Reform only got 7% of the total votes cast in Scotland

Yes. It's been made pretty clear now that it's not too close to call, the reason they couldn't confirm it is some sort of discrepancy in the number of ballots. But not enough to change the outcome. So the SNP candidate has conceded to Lib Dems in response to the grief he was getting for not changing his plans to wait around in person to have it confirmed 24+ hours later.

RaraRachael · 05/07/2024 23:04

I'm not sorry they lost on a huge scale. We all knew their policies were shit but they ploughed on with them regardless.

Glad there are no Greens left as it's thanks to their cosying up that 2 major roads in my area will not be dualled for yonks and lots more people will die.

Also not sorry my incumbent MP has gone. Parents from school wrote him a very accusatory letter about the HT and he replied totally backing them without even asking her side of the story. They were the parents from he'll.

SirChenjins · 06/07/2024 07:50

Anyone know what the loony Greens share of the vote was in Scotland?

Overall Greens share was 3.8% ( excluding Inverness so far)

Best I can find, they all lost their deposits.

The Reform share is larger than I had hoped.

It's horrifying and it should be a wake up call to the SNP to actually engage with some of the issues that made people vote Reform rather than espouse a moral superiority.

Nicola Sturgeon was never happier than standing up on the podium every week appearing like a strong leader simply by virtue of the fact that Boris Johnson was prime minister. She came to think of herself as speaking for all of Scotland. In fact, she would state all the time, "The people of Scotland want this/think this/need this". She continued to 'speak for the people of Scotland' after the pandemic on a whole range of issues painting Scotland as some kind of Utopia where racism and sexism don't exist. It's absolute bullshit.

I am not suggesting that governments should actively promote divisive and discriminatory ideology (like the Tories have) but if you fail to understand voters and pretend their grievances don't exist then eventually you will be punished at the polls.

Thanks for this. What is clear that there is no appetite for the parties supporting independence

SirChenjins · 06/07/2024 09:39

Thanks @Dearg

That’s worrying - but not surprising - that Reform have done as well as they have. Despite what the SNP will have us believe we’re actually not that different from the rest of the UK it seems.

Now the question is - what’s Swinney et al going to do to address this issue?

Indeed, isn't it crazy to think that people sharing one small island who regularly move to different parts of that island to live, work and go on holiday are actually quite similar?!

treadingonlego · 06/07/2024 10:55

Blame Westminster, blame the Tories, blame the voters, convince themselves this was all just a protest against Westminster and the Tories, run with the narrative of Labour being red Tories, and then try and whip up independence support in time for 2026 to be a de facto referendum?
