This from Tommy Sheppard sums the SNP up for me:

… the electoral swing from his party to Scottish Labour is "absolutely not a rejection of independence".
Sheppard, who lost his long-held Edinburgh East seat to Labour, believes his party lost focus and "fought amongst itself when it should have been fighting a common enemy".

Nothing about their party’s failure to improve devolved services, just more of the same independence and fighting the Westminster enemies. People are heartedly sick of them doing the same old, same old - and getting the same old results in return.

Inverness not until tomorrow. Must be so close.

IHaveNeverLivedatTheCastle · 05/07/2024 10:12

But, but, but it was a de facto referndum

Chersfrozenface · 05/07/2024 10:22

The BBC is claiming that "many in the SNP were shocked by the scale of defeat".

If true, that underlines the SNP's disconnect from reality. (As if it needed underlining, I suppose.)

Klippityklopp · 05/07/2024 10:27

Sturgeon saying questions need to be asked.
No they don't, the question is who is to blame for this and the answer is you.
So so pleased the snp have all but been wiped out here

It's the first time I've ever agreed with anything she said

She wasn't including herself in the self reflection of course Wink

Merrilydancing · 05/07/2024 10:38

Was anyone watching stv last night as I am wondering if NS stayed to see the results roll in.

kelpie9 · 05/07/2024 10:39

All my prayers have been answered.

Good bye SNP

Of course not - she doesn't know the meaning of it. It'll be the fault of those 50 year old Karens being mean to the SNP.

Third recount taking place in Inverness, Skye and West Ross-shire 😬
ETA: or 3rd count? I can no longer count to 3 with all the excitement!

Liverpoolma123 · 05/07/2024 11:52

Sounds like a missing ballot box or something. Might still go to SNP.

Goodness. Maybe a box fell off the side of a boat.

Tracy Gilbert told me on the doorstep and by email that TWATW and that she will fight to protect single sex spaces. I hope she was being genuine. Scottish Labour may have done a volte face on gender ideology but the main Labour Party haven’t. So we’ll see. Bye bye Deidre!!

Excellent stuff. I emailed Deidre before about women retaining single sex spaces and was blanked so I'm delighted.

SirChenjins · 05/07/2024 12:35

And this from Swinney

"I have to accept we failed to convince people of the urgency of independence in this election campaign. Therefore, we need to take the time to consider and to reflect on how we deliver our commitment to independence - which remains absolute."

It's like banging your head repeatedly against a brick wall.

I just can't cope with the SNP obsession with independence and bringing everything always back to it.

What would the SNP say if they had gotten their independence and every other party, at literally every single opportunity talked about "mandate for re-uniting", "time for re-uniting" blah blah blah.

Chersfrozenface · 05/07/2024 13:08

I just can't cope with the SNP obsession with independence and bringing everything always back to it.

To be fair, it is their entire raison d'etre.

moonisblue · 05/07/2024 13:16

To be fair, it is their entire raison d'etre.

But it's everything. Schools failing? Independence. NHS on its knees? Independence. Economic forecast terrible? Independence. Ferry contracts? Independence. And so the list goes on and on and on. I completely get it's their endgame, but that should be a given in the background while they concentrate on all the other issues that are devolved or within their gift to improve - it shouldn't be a case of letting everything else disappear down the pan while they focus on the one issue (or rather, 2 given their seeming obsession with the rainbow).

Reported as misogynistic & inappropriate. Shame on you OP.

Oh dear - I am referencing the exact words that came out of the mouth of Mhairi Black. Perhaps you were unaware of what she said about older women?

Shame on Mhairi Black, more like.

wtfissummer · 05/07/2024 13:57

@Bettyscakes It was a sitting MP that said that not the pp.

MorrisZapp · 05/07/2024 14:00

Mhairi Black literally called women who want single sex spaces cunts.

Cunts.

Women.
