This WILL be interesting. Even if it doesn’t rid us of the SNP from Holyrood, it will provide a good barometer of public opinion on the recent exploits of the SNP.

Farewell Blackman and Black!

Why are so many people so obsessed with other people's genitalia? People know themselves better than anyone else knows them.. when they tell you who they are, why wouldn't you believe them? What difference does it make to you what gender someone is? They're not doing you any harm. It's bizarre to be so hateful.

You're the only person who has mentioned genitals in this thread!

I think I'll have to spoil my vote.

I won't vote Green or Lib Dem or SNP

I always used to think of the most vulnerable person I knew and whose policies were best for that person - generally Labour. But they don't know what a woman is so I can't vote for them.

I can't vote Tory. Surely not. I can't vote for them. Yet of all my list MSPs (I know not the same election) my Tory MSP works the hardest. Responds to every email I send with a considered and detailed response.

They are the most diverse party.

They know what a woman is.

I can't. I can't do it.

I'll wait and see who my local candidates are and decide.

I'll spoil my vote. I think it's the only choice I have.

SNP and the Greens consistently have the policies that are best for the most vulnerable in society. Have done since I first became interested in politics as a young teenager. Additionally, trans people are some of the most vulnerable people you know. I can't understand why people want to deny them the freedom to be who they are. My trans friends are understandably frightened in the current political climate.

Our Tory MP is such a yes man. Even when the whole party were turning on truss he was about the last to go. I cringe that people around where I live voted him in. In recent times we have had Teresa May, Boris and Rishi all up schmoozing. Gads!

There’s no “genocide” in Gaza. Don’t be daft.

I am a teacher and for me the biggest issue is the lack of exclusions for violent pupils. I'm not sure if those high in the government understand what's going on but something needs to change.

Also , I've just been told the deportations to Rawanda have been paused until after the GE? Another huge reason why the Tories must be removed. I work with fantastic young people who have been through huge trauma and then been re traumatised by the UK government over this.

Kids have been re traumatized over going to Rwanda? Did they arrive in small boats?

Trans identified men are generally more likely to be perpetrators of crime than victims. They’re actually one of the safest demographics in the uk - likely because they’re overwhelmingly from fairly privileged middle class backgrounds.

Re Alba - at least they have endorsed the Cass Review and accept scientific fact/biological reality so in my view are less "lunatic fringe" than the Greens !

I really like Neale Hanvey. If he was standing in my constituency, he’d get my vote. Ash regan too

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 23/05/2024 22:31

I couldn’t give two fucks about “trans rights”. Stay out of my toilets, changing rooms, and women’s sports and we will be grand. Some trans people may be vulnerable but that’s because they are young and/or mentally ill. Adult blokes who put on a dress and wig are not marginalised or vulnerable, and more likely to be offenders than victims of crimes.

I just love how John Swinney is saying how disrespectful it is to hold an election when the Scots are on (school) holidays- erm, we're not!

We will be on 4th July. It'll be the school Summer holidays.

The Scottish Prison Service (an executive agency of the the Scottish Government) had a policy, heavily influenced by a lobby group, which allowed violent male sex offenders to be housed in the female prison estate on a self id basis. They did this deliberately -

‘We strategized – we strategized – that by working intensively with the Scottish Prison Service to support them to include trans women as women on a self-declaration basis within very challenging circumstances, we would be able to ensure that all other public services should be able to do likewise’.

The placing of male sex offenders in the female prison estate only came to the general public's attention due to the placing of 'Isla' Bryson, a double rapist and latterly, the placing of Tiffany Scott, the 'most violent offender in Scotland'.

After an outcry, the massively overdue policy review was concluded which still means that violent male offenders can still be placed in the female prison estate.

Female prisoners are incredibly vulnerable. 80% of them have suffered a previous head injury, mostly due to domestic abuse.

Where is the concern for them? Or this is 'progressive?

Timetodownsize · 23/05/2024 22:42

@OokBook not all schools in Scotland will be on holiday on 4th July. For John Swinney not to either know this or to ignore it if he does demonstrates a central belt centric attitude which is as insulting to other parts of Scotland as the London centric attitude of some Westminster politicians.
That you clearly do not know that the school term dates are not uniform across Scotland merely highlights your own ignorance

Waitwhat23 · 23/05/2024 22:44

And Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre have just been excoriated by a judge for not only turning away women who requested single sex rape crisis services but also refusing to signpost them to another service that could provide this. This was entirely due to institutional ideological capture, presided over by Maggie Chapman of the Scottish Greens. Incidentally, the Scottish Greens voted en masse against the 'six words amendment' of the Forensic Medical Services Bill which would have allowed women to request (not demand, merely request) a female medical examiner.

The only policies the Scottish Greens have brought forward in regards to environmental issues (DRS, heat pumps etc) have been dismal failures. Biffa are currently taking legal action against them.

brusselsprout5 · 23/05/2024 22:59

I will absolutely be voting SNP. I'm all for Scottish independence too. A vote for the tories who have absolutely fucked this country over would be crazy in Scotland. A vote for labour - well wait for the levelling up. Gone will be the free childcare hours for under 3's. The free prescriptions, free bus passes, free school meals etc. SNP are not perfect by any means but Westminster have very much limited the cash.

TheDefiant · 23/05/2024 23:07

@OokBook nothing in my comment that you've quoted is anything close to denying people the freedom to be who they are.

I'm Trans Positive and Sex Realist. I've done unconscious bias training and testing that shows I actually have a "slight preference" for trans people. (Test designed to be impossible to fake BTW).

Sex matters. It even matters to people who want to transition.

You don’t think independence might be totally and utterly catastrophic for the Scottish economy- as ALL of the experts predict? Or have you had enough of experts?

I'm not sure how this relates to my comment but yes, I think Independence would be catastrophic for Scotland. And I say that as a former SNP voter and someone who voted yes in 2014.

I also have come to the conclusion that not having a second chamber (elected but non party political) is part of how some of the recent poor legislation has been pushed through.

I also personally think that there needs to be more cross party working but I'm not sure how that would be achieved.

🤞 hope so. I've not given up on them yet. They could be better but they're still way more progressive and less corrupt than Labour and the Tories

That’s why an SPR has been handed to the fiscal today, this lack of corruption 🤣🤣. Being less bad than the opposition doesn’t make them good!

Totally agree - the most vulnerable people in society are those with severe physical or learning disability, children and women living in abusive households, women in prison and frail elderly people. People with severe enduring mental health problems are also highly vulnerable. Making prisons, hospital wards and toilets and changing facilities mixed sex makes all of those groups (particularly females) more likely to be sexually assaulted. 99% of sexual offences are committed by people with a penis. 80% of children seen in images of child sexual abuse are female. Protecting women and children and other vulnerable adults (including trans identifying females) is absolutely crucial and a deal breaker for me in a political party.

Escapetothesun · 24/05/2024 07:30

And yes, a genocide ( supported by Sunak) is happening.

14,000 innocent children murdered in the last few months. Of course, it'd been going on longer than that too.

I just can’t get over the people that think comments like these are anti trans. They just don’t understand that allowing trans people access to single sex wards etc allows any old perverted bloke to larp as a transwomen and gain access for his own creepy purposes. Genuine trans people ought to be able see and respect the danger to women giving them access creates.
