This WILL be interesting. Even if it doesn’t rid us of the SNP from Holyrood, it will provide a good barometer of public opinion on the recent exploits of the SNP.

Farewell Blackman and Black!

There is apparently a discrepancy between the number of expected votes and the votes counted and they've been unable to resolve it. I take that means the amount of ballot papers issued at polling stations isn't adding up with the amount of papers in the count.

Normally you'd conclude a missing box or something but they've conducted an accounting check and visual check and the issue remains.

So whether they have more or less votes counted than expected hasn't been answered. On the last predictions I saw it was predicted an SNP hold but that predicted 19 seats, not 9 (or maybe 10) so who knows 🤷

I’m irritated by the SNP coming out today saying they’ve lost votes due to everyone voting tactically to get the goriest out of Westminster…. How about the people who didn’t vote for SNP just didn’t want SNP? Our previous (SNP) MP was bond idle! Glad he’s out!

I hate the SNP even more than I hate the Tories.

Waitwhat23 · 05/07/2024 12:41

Re: the SNP, my parents were SNP campaigners from the 1970's onwards, they used to get laughed at on doorsteps because 'it's a wasted vote'. My family was steeped in the SNP and focused on Independence. We all voted yes in 2014.

Until the SNP fucked it. The bullshit antics of the NEC. The failure to listen to it's membership and those of the membership who raised issues basically being told to piss off. The infiltration of activists with no interest in the founding values of the SNP.

My parents are both gutted that the party they supported and worked for so long turned into such a quagmire of shite. But it has.

And that's not even starting on the financial stuff, the GRR etc.

The SNP are criticised because they're shite. That's not echo chamber crap - that's a statement of fact and why they've seen such an unassailable loss today.

Awrite · 05/07/2024 12:42

I am flabbergasted that Kirsty Blackman kept her seat. She's utterly brainless.

On the echo chamber debate - I am pro independence and have always voted SNP. Until this election.

Misthios · 05/07/2024 12:42

I hate the SNP even more than I hate the Tories.

So do I.

That's interesting to know, thank you. I wonder how it will be resolved if the accounting check continues to show an issue.

My goal was to get the SNP out.

Ditto

Lord knows, sounds like a right mess. That's my constituency. Maybe they're all arguing over my spoilt ballot 😄

kikisparks · 05/07/2024 12:11

Of course it is. Are you saying nobody voted SNP?

The SNP really need to start listening to people whose views don't align with theirs. You're going to get nowhere with defiant and defensive attitudes like this.

Misthios · 05/07/2024 13:02

It's their whole ethos - are you yes yet? Subtext - because you need to be educated to our way of thinking. We don't need to understand you, or listen to you, or consider you in any way because you are not a yesser.

whatcom22 · 05/07/2024 13:05

It's pretty much the dream - SNP down, tories out and Lib Dems who I thought had great policies and a good campaign did well.

redfacebigdisgrace · 05/07/2024 15:02

Nervous about women’s rights but hopefully enough light has been shone on it now to make Labour think twice …also Isla in her pink tights being part of Nicola’s downfall….

LoopyGremlin · 05/07/2024 15:15

I wanted the SNP out but would have made an exception for Joanna Cherry.

ArtfullyCrumpled · 05/07/2024 15:15

Burst into tears today and it's utter relief. It's been a long time coming.

Me too. Always wished she didn’t support independence.

PrimalLass · 05/07/2024 17:47

I'm sad about Neale Hanvey and don't understand why so few in our constituency voted for him.

Me too , the local Scottish elections cannot come quick enough now I want them out of the City chambers and Glasgow cleaned up and the idiot greens kicked out too. All the cycle lane fiascos can stop too they have half built all over the city making traffic worse , engines running as it’s at a standstill and not a soul on them. My mum and I cheer if we see a cyclist and we don’t cheer often.

The SNP really need to start listening to people whose views don't align with theirs. You're going to get nowhere with defiant and defensive attitudes like this.

In what way am I defiant and defensive? I’ve said “Some people clearly still vote for them both in constituencies where they lost and those where they won but that is not reflected on Scotsnet” and had a reply that that is not reflected in the election results but it is, blatantly some people have voted SNP.

It is an echo chamber in here, whether that reflects the view of the majority of the electorate does not change the fact that there are a significant minority whose views are not welcome here. And as for the SNP needing to listen to views that are not theirs, did you not see my post on precisely that? Wondering what would need to change in the next two years so that we don’t end up with double labour (and I have nothing against labour being in in England, actually I welcome that result, but I think the Scottish parliament should work for Scotland and I don’t think Scottish Labour will do that).

Anyway I am not going to read this thread any further, as I’m sure everyone will be happy with to be left in peace to agree SNP are terrible. I was interested in some of the replies as to what SNP have done wrong and do agree with some of it, but having it implied that I lack education, social interest and that I vote on emotion rather than facts, which I do not think could be further from the truth, just puts me off trying to engage at all. I understand why there are some “shy tories” and why there is a failure to be able to engage with them to discuss why they hold their political views, nobody is open to debate if you’re just going to jump on and insult them.

VelvetKimono · 05/07/2024 18:45

That’s a shame @kikisparks. I Like a bit of discussion and agree with you on where the SNP has gone wrong, although I am not an independence supporter

k1880 · 05/07/2024 18:48

Officially single figures for the SNP. Drew Hendry has conceded ahead of the recount.

I'm not Scottish.

When the SNP were riding high and Nicola Sturgeon was admired internationally were you voting for the SNP merely as a vehicle to independence or because you were aligned with their basic policies on say the economy?

With the downfall of Sturgeon, and now the SNP generally, does that mean that pro-independence voters currently have no political home, and how will you vote in the Holyrood elections in two years time?

Sorry if I misinterpreted your tone. It was your reply of 'Are you saying nobody voted SNP?' that I thought came across as defensive. Because obviously I wasn't saying that, as I'm not stupid either.

What the hell is going on over in Dingwall? They fucked up the count and now Drew Hendry has conceded because he can't be there for the recount tomorrow? V odd. If I'd voted for him I wouldn't be impressed.

Misthios · 05/07/2024 21:13

How odd - you’d think he’d have kept the weekend free. Unless it’s a wedding or something, is it in the rules the candidates have to be at the count?
