Hows everyone's kids getting on with their exams / studying?

DDs first Higher exam is D&M I think. She's been busy working on past papers but feels fairly confident. She is least confident about Chemistry.

OP posts:

H Physics here too. Says he's done the work but who knows... Got a lecture on Tuesday about still being on tiktok so has now uninstalled it!

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 25/04/2024 09:17

Good luck to those doing Physics today!
DS does have exams but none yet - so hoping he's managing to keep motivated with study/coursework final touches!

weebarra · 25/04/2024 11:55

Found you all! Good luck to the physicists today. DS1 is doing 4 highers and is predicted to fail them all. He's very dyslexic and has adhd so has lots of extra time and IT.
He has a place at college for after the summer and no qualifications required for that, but it would be useful for him to get a couple of Highers.
First one is English.

Monstersunderthesea · 25/04/2024 13:38

I heard higher physics was hard. Anyone else hear any feedback?

Glasgowgin · 25/04/2024 14:13

I got ‘ok I think’ from mine but haven’t heard any other feedback- he’s not home yet.

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 25/04/2024 15:22

My eldest had crash higher physics this morning. He said it was Ok, he hasn’t done any work for it though, he doesn’t need it for uni, but he’s very bright and good at maths so hoping that may have helped.

youngest is in the N5 as we speak

Sturmundcalm · 25/04/2024 17:54

i couldn't get any real detail on physics H but i would have said positively neutral 😂

YouBelongWithMe · 25/04/2024 20:01

My son thought it went well. He said there was one 1m Q he couldn't do, but the rest he said felt like a very fair exam. Am glad he had a good first one. English next... An essay a day until the exam!

Hello - can I join? 1 DD sitting 5 Highers - first one is Modern Studies next Tuesday. I honestly have no idea how the Highers will go - after getting all As in Nat 5s last year, DD got A/B/C/D/F for Highers prelims. But seems to have pulled her finger out since then, and is now predicted As and Bs. The next month feels like a lifetime - and then there's the looong wait. Good luck, everyone!

My eldest got all A at N5 and his higher prelims were BBBBC. Managed to pull 5 As out the bag! Hope your daughter does well. Highers are super stressful

French today for DD.

Good luck to anyone with exams today.

Misthios · 26/04/2024 08:40

Interesting to see things from an invigilator's perspective yesterday. Group of about 60, 2 didn't have a pen with them. Lots needed to borrow a ruler. One who - despite being told twice - failed to write his candidate number on the paper. Two SQA cards with numbers on left in hall after exam finished. Two kids who were clearly done an hour into a 2.5 hour exam and to be fair to them sat nicely until the time was over. Most kids finishing up by the "you have 15 minutes left" warning, 90% finished with 5 minutes to go, only one writing up to the "pens down" instruction.

Looked at the paper and tried to answer the questions based on my O Grade physics from 1988 and would have managed about 10%.

OwlMother · 26/04/2024 09:36

Ds has AH French today. Seems quite content that he's done all he can possibly do. Good luck to all others doing exams today.

Hapagirl48 · 26/04/2024 10:12

I love that Boogie on Forth 1 always says the exam of the day and wishes luck to those sitting them. DD has Nat 5 French today. Still under the weather and is worried that her coughing will drown out the listening bit for others but is going armed with strepsils. Good luck everyone!

Cluelessaf · 26/04/2024 10:50

Ds still isn't up, so much for study leave! No idea how he'll be up and functioning for 9am exams, he seems to have become nocturnal.

cushionfiend · 26/04/2024 10:51

@DownWithThisKindOfThing Thank you - we can but hope! And then there's always S6 if things still don't quite go to plan. But she's got her heart set on going to Uni of Glasgow so fingers crossed.

MsTimTam · 26/04/2024 11:14

Higher French for DD today - she didn't do well in the prelim but has worked so hard since then and was reasonably confident.

I'm a wreck and can't concentrate - my work productivity has a dramatic dip during exams 🤣

Agree with PP - love hearing Boogie announce the day's exams every morning on Forth One.

Threeboysadogacatandakitten · 26/04/2024 16:39

Ds had his practical music today. He said it was generally fine but the two pieces he found most difficult went well and he hit a wrong note in the piece he could play standing on his head. He said he recovered immediately so hopes they will put it down to nerves! I think he has quite a long break now until AH maths.

HigherDays · 26/04/2024 23:06

That’s late for the music practical isn’t it? My DC did Music to Advanced Higher and the practical element was done much earlier in the year - I thought it was Feb/March but I might be misremembering? Anyway I’m sure one little stumble doesn’t get judged too harshly especially if you recover quickly. Was it just the one instrument?

Best of luck going forward!

For anyone’s dc sitting NAT5 music - looks like there might have been a problem with the mp3 files for Mondays 9am NAT5 music exam. Post was sent out after schools closed on Friday. Hopefully schools manage to get the new files before the exam on Monday.

I think it is music tech rather than music

YouBelongWithMe · 27/04/2024 20:29

Yes, it's Music Tech. My daughter is planning to take it next year (as well as Music - what a musical year!). What a shambles, feel so sorry for the kids wondering if their school has a) seen it, and b) the right audio can be downloaded it time for a 9am exam

Threeboysadogacatandakitten · 28/04/2024 20:41

@HigherDays yes, his two older brothers also did AH music and I thought their practical was earlier, certainly before the exams. However, they are 11 and 9 years older than ds3 so it was a while ago. He did piano and base guitar. It was his piano he made the mistake in.

YouBelongWithMe · 28/04/2024 20:44

Is it only my child that revises at all the odd times? Writing essays at 11pm, doing past paper questions into the small hours. I can't decide if it's counter productive to encourage him into a more normal timetable, as I suspect he's actually more engaged and fired up at the times he's self-selecting

weebarra · 28/04/2024 20:59

DS1 is doing Shooting Stars by Carol Ann Duffy for H English, read it today and it's so dark. After Dulce et decorum est for Nat 5 I think we need a cheerful poem!
