Hows everyone's kids getting on with their exams / studying?

DDs first Higher exam is D&M I think. She's been busy working on past papers but feels fairly confident. She is least confident about Chemistry.

Another ‘it was ok’ from Dd.
Last one a week tomorrow. National 5 art and design.

Xyz1234567 · 20/05/2024 20:51

Daughter did N5 computer science today. She was dreading it but apparently she has been blessed by the gods because it was a dream! Seven down just art to go next week too.

Vettrianofan · 20/05/2024 21:51

DS was in doing chemistry revision in school this afternoon, back in again tomorrow. I have decided not to say anything and leave him. His chemistry teacher today said "study smart, not hard". Basically, don't over do it. The most important thing is sleep, he said.

Then DS forgot to pick up his new S6 timetable when he was in🙄

cushionfiend · 20/05/2024 22:41

DD has Higher History tomorrow too - wishing everyone luck! Then her final one is Art & Design the following Tuesday. Then the excruciating wait til Aug 6th - the longest 10 weeks ever!

bluebkke · 21/05/2024 01:37

Is anyone's child doing Philosophy Higher on Friday? Seems like there is a lot to memorise for it.

HigherDays · 21/05/2024 07:58

Another one for Higher History today - good luck to all. Can’t believe we’re finally at the week I winced at when I saw the SQA timetable all those months ago. History, with Chemistry hot on its heels on Thursday. Hoping for some nice sunny weather on Thursday afternoon so my DC can sit in the garden and relax.

motheronthedancefloor · 21/05/2024 08:00

I got a 'harrumph' when I wished DD good luck as she walked out the door....

ds said Higher Computing went well, that's him done for this exam season.
Good luck to everyone doing history today. dd took history all the way to AH and I remember her finding the exams very stressful.

weebarra · 21/05/2024 10:40

Apparently paper 1 was good for history!

motheronthedancefloor · 21/05/2024 11:10

DD texted and said the same about paper one. "a godsend"

Fingers crossed for paper 2

I'm jealous of you people with communicative children!
Great news re paper 1, thank you

theferry · 21/05/2024 11:18

Paper 1 was OK according to DD. The issues she’d revised the most came up.

cushionfiend · 21/05/2024 11:25

Thanks for the info re History paper 1!

LoopyGremlin · 21/05/2024 11:32

Happy here with paper 1 😀

motheronthedancefloor · 21/05/2024 12:47

DD usually doesn't tell me anything til the end of day and even then its just a 'fine' or 'okay' so the fact she contacted me between papers is a good sign for paper 1, she must have been realy happy with it. Not heard re: paper 2 yet.

OP posts:
motheronthedancefloor · 21/05/2024 12:53

just heard - paper 2 was 'okay'. Apparently the last question on migration & empire was 'wierd' as the source didn't match the question.

From DD: "it was a how fully does source D explain the impact of migration and empire on scotland but the source was explaining Scotland’s impact on the empire"

Would be good to know what other pupils thought on that one. Apparently not allowed to take papers home so I can't double check.

My daughter said that the wording of that one threw her and her friends. Something to do with the reaction of Scots She spoke to her teacher who said he'd not seen that wording before.

Paper One much better but the wording on the question on Nationalism was a curve ball for my our lot.

Another one in the bag.

theferry · 21/05/2024 13:46

That’s it DD finished. So glad it’s over for her.

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 21/05/2024 20:11

Eldest finished yesterday, AH computing science so that’s him at home getting under my feet til Uni starts.

Youngest has N5 chemistry on Thursday and that’s him.

Roll on Thursday afternoon! It’s been a long exam diet, but we are finally getting there.

The wait for results I find is OK until the last couple of days before

motheronthedancefloor · 23/05/2024 07:44

H Chemistry today and then we're done til results day. Chemistry is the one she's most worried about although she also hates English.

In the grand scheme of things, how bad is it if a gel pen has been used?

Misthios · 23/05/2024 08:17

It might affect the scanning of the paper but I would imagine they gave protocols for dealing with that. The invigilators handbook had processes for dealing with everything from fire alarms to a child vomiting on their paper so would imagine the markers handbook similar. How did they miss the multiple warnings though??

Some papers are scanned, some are marked from paper it depends on the subject. Was it at least a black/blue pen?!

Rainbowshit · 23/05/2024 08:27

Higher chemistry today. Last one! 🤞🏻

Misthios · 23/05/2024 08:46

Nearly all are marked from digital image. I remember checking through the handbook and the only one of ds’s which wasn’t was RMPS. I’m sure it’ll be fine, the market can cope with all sorts, I was invigilating a student who used a scribe/reader for many of the questions, wrote her own answers for others and we submitted two papers for marking.
