2024 exam thread

Hows everyone's kids getting on with their exams / studying?

DDs first Higher exam is D&M I think. She's been busy working on past papers but feels fairly confident. She is least confident about Chemistry.

@Igneococcus hopefully City of Glasgow College - needs to have a pass for H English and school were predicting an A so fingers crossed! I'm hoping he gets a decent set of highers altogether though so that if he changes his mind about current focus after he starts college he would still have plenty of options in terms of applying to uni for next year.

Really worried about biology tomorrow for DD. There wasn’t enough time to cover everything thoroughly.

Well my son was up til 1 am on calls with friends and then rolled out of bed at 8.30 am before higher politics. His last time ever in the school. He says he doesn’t care and he doesn’t need it for uni, but I think he’ll be annoyed at himself if he doesn’t pass.

3 more to go here - AH computing for the eldest next Monday at a different school and N5 graphic communication on Thursday and chemistry next Thursday for my youngest.

Been a long exam diet. Roll on 23 May!

Good luck for biology / human bio folks today. Higher Human for mine today then that's him done 😅think he plans to be very smug towards his friends who still have chemistry etc.

Another Higher H Biology taker today - good luck everyone - still got another 3 after this including Chemistry. DC looking relatively calm but I know they’re nervous about this and Chemistry in particular.

Good luck biologists! I have a Nat 5 biology child and a higher human biology child here. My S6 needs a B today for her conditional offer to uni and I feel sick with stress.

Try your best not to worry @theferry you may find it goes much better than expected for your DD.

DS texted to say first paper "went solid" for H Biology. Hopefully that's a good sign🤔

DS got offered one too for Higher Chemistry but refused. His choice🤷‍♀️

Paper two was apparently "brutal".

He said most left the hall early. Not sure if that's good or not. Anyone else had feedback of Higher Biology papers from their DC?

I can give feedback on H Human from an invigilator's perspective - seemed to go OK for the students I was supervising. Most of it was short 1 mark or 2 mark answers apart from one long 8 marker at the end, a section about how your hormone levels change during your menstrual cycle which I managed to answer most of, stuff about blood pressure, clinical trials as well as the more techie stuff. The teacher who was in with me as a scribe felt it was a fair paper.

DD has said jt was difficult.

Sorry DS was in a separate location from the main students sitting H Biology papers due to ICT support, so he could only comment on others who were in there too. I was getting myself muddled up🤦‍♀️

DS1 felt H human was very fair. He could answer everything which is positive. One more to go, H history next Tuesday.

Same here—just history. I’ll be so glad to see them all finished! Highers are such a leap from Nat 5s. Much more difficult. I have absolutely no idea how DD will do.

Mine seems happy enough with Human too. That’s him done now not sure what time tonight he’s going to rock up at home!!

I agree. Big leap. I don't think DS knew how much effort he would need to put in.

According to DD Nat5 Biology was a triumph, I'm assuming that means it went well for her!

I do hope that optimism is reflected in her results........

I actually think DD has found Highers better than Nat 5s, at least with regards to studying and preparing for exams. She seems to have found a study method that works for her and appears more relaxed whereas last year she was panicky. Just hope it shows in the results!

Oh god, my DD didn’t think it was great. She seemed to think it was very maths based and not what she was expecting!

Higher graphic communication tomorrow for DD. She didn’t do great in her prelim but I know her graphic project/assignment will have probably been good.
So hopefully she’s got a decent % already.

H German for DS today....not the most popular subject but he enjoys it....

Mine is just out of N5 graphic communication, he said it was OK. Hoping he’s managed a C.
