Thank you. It was so upsetting to hear her say this and I couldn't come up with anything that would reassure her enough.

(I didn't realise this was the Scotsnet topic until after I had made my post about London, apologies).

Do Jewish people feel scared now because they think people marching are therefore automatically antisemitic? Or do they feel scared as they know Israel carpet bombing Gaza is an over the top response to a horrible isolated terrorist attack and they fear reprisals because of that? I'll need to ask my Jewish friend who I've since found out was at the march on Saturday. I wonder if she knows shes considered antisemitic on here for going?

You have made a lot of assumptions. I am bowing out of this thread now.

isolated?? Do you know that Hamas's stated intent is to kill Jews because they are Jews. That they are backed by Iran whose stated intent is to destroy Israel because it is Jewish? Did you watch the footage from Hamas terrorists's bodycams published today? The film of the terrorist calling his Dad to celebrate that he had killed 10 jews with his own hands? Do you not think given half a chance those same terrorists would have another go at torturing, raping, burning alive, blowing up, decapitating & bludgeoning to death any Jews they find. You are terrifyingly naive, at best, and that is ridiculously generous. What the hell should Israel do in the face of such depravity? And no they are not carpet bombing.

ssd · 23/10/2023 23:15

Of course they are, watch the news to see the footage. They are bombing the place hundreds of times a day. What do you call it then?

Notaflippinclue · 23/10/2023 23:23

I hope the Jewish people realise all right thinking people understand their predicament and that Hamas have got to be eliminated just like ISIS or they will never be safe.

If Israel was carpet bombing Gaza, the death toll would be many magnitude higher. It is simply nonsense what you are saying.

An isolated terrorist attack? WTF?

What a dismissive appalling comment. I’ll never get that image of that poor girl with her blood stained trousers out of my mind.

Thatisthewayaha- The IDF has dropped more bombs on Gaza in 10 days than all the bombs dropped on the whole of Afghanistan in one year. How isn't that carpet bombing?

Carpet bombing is indiscriminate, bombing everything across a wide area. Israel bombs Hamas targets and gives warnings. Hamas chooses to embed its operations in civilian areas & buildings & chooses not to evacuate its citizens. In fact it encourages them to stay. Of course people will get killed - its a bloody war. Hamas & Islamic Jihad fire hundreds of rockets at Israel and a lot fall short killing their own people. The consensus among democratic countries is that that is how the hospital was hit.

10UsernamesNotAvailableTryAnotherOne · 24/10/2023 05:53

SharonEllis-Israeli attacks are also pretty indiscriminate. Israel have bombed hospitals (not talking about that one) schools, mosques, bakeries, churches, ambulances and even refugee camps. They also bombed the southern part of Gaza, where people were told to evacuate to. These are all war crimes. There is a reason why Israel has had over 140 UN resolutions against it since 2014 and has been investigated by the International Criminal Court since 2021. I condemn Hamas, fuck Hamas with the sharp end of a cactus. The IDF must be condemned, too.

Watch the Channel Four News walk through of how it couldn't be a mis fired missile that hit the hospital you are talking about and was indeed a bombing from an Israeli jet.

They also bombed the Rafah crossing.

In any case, the removal of electricity, water , food ( only allowing half a dozen aid trucks into Gaza via Egypt) for two million people is as abhorrent.

The poor FM's family - have you watched the videos? They're not sure if / when they'll be blown to smithereens, die from the food and water withdrawal by Israel ( as they control everything going in and out) or , god willing, they manage to stay alive.

@SharonEllis 'Hamas chooses not to evacuate '. If babies and other patients are receiving life saving care, doctors must stay to keep them alive. They are not the ones that carried out the atrocities on Oct 7th.

When is the killing of the Palestinians enough? How many innocents must die before they stop bombing hospital, 'safe routes', withholding water and electricity?

The problem is that many in the current Israeli Gov view a Palestinian child as much less worth than an Israeli child.

All civilian lifes matter, especially the innocent children.

Ineedaholiday23- Well said.

Radyward · 24/10/2023 07:56

Its awful jewish people are afraid in The UK

They are not the israeli Govt. But it is the israeli govt who have caused their fear with their war crimes. Its the actions of israel. What both sides have done is abhorrent. There will always be stupid idiots wanting to vent at both sides but the majority at a lot of these demos just want the killing stopped..how does that make them anti semite?
There is a silencing going on by israel to call everyone anti semite so they are untouchable and continue this disgusting war without critique Hamas are anti jew as are Hezbollah .i support neither but neither do i support the actions of israel in this.
I would love to see tel aviv..not anymore. Israel have done irrepairable damage to their reputation but have the US and UK still kissing their ass. Elections round the corner if this gaza situation continues with this ferocity . Mmm their might be a change of sentiment from Biden and Sunak

I'll say it again for the hard of hearing. March for peace if thats what you want. Marching for either side is wrong. Blaming Israel alone is wrong, they are certainly not to blame for anti semitism! Hamas began this current violence by slaughtering, raping, beheading, burning and kidnapping innocent Israeli civilians including children. Their intention is to rid the world of jews. Would you feel safe living in Israel with a terrorist organisation intent on killing you all? If people can't see both sides of this it will never end.

Mostly lies. While water and medicine should be allowed into Gaza, a pipeline into the part of it where civilians are advised to relocate has been turned on and aid has started entering. Other stuff will be stolen by Hamas as it has been doing for all these years - where does it get the concrete to build thousands of miles of underground tunnels or the fuel to fire missiles... And Israel has no obligation to provide an energy state electricity.

It is a lie to say that channel 4 has established it was an Israeli missile that bombed the hospital car park. A total lie.

Hamas or IJ bombed the hospital car park and also bombed the evacuation route.

Hamas chose to start the war, Israel will choose when to end it. Palestinian civilian lives are equal but civilian death does sadly happen in war as a result of legal actions. The Gaza government shouldn't have massacred Israeli civilians.

Merrilydancing · 24/10/2023 08:19

British people should not be threatened due to the actions of a foreign government and yet they are with the abhorrent rise of antisemitism in this country.

If you feel the need to march, march for peace as it is naive at best to think that some of those attending these marches are using these to preach hate against our fellow citizens.

BigBoysDontCry · 24/10/2023 08:33

Hamas don't value either child.

10UsernamesNotAvailableTryAnotherOne · 24/10/2023 08:50

BigBoysDontCry-
Obviously. Hamas is a terrorist organisation, they don't care about anyone. Hamas must be held in contempt. Seriously, fuck Hamas with the sharp end of a cactus. However, the Israeli government and military are not supposed to be terrorist organisations, so they are meant to be held to a higher standard. The behaviour of the IDF is abhorrent. There is a good reason why the UN has made so many resolutions against Israel. There is a good reason why Israel is being investigated by the International Criminal Court for war crimes. There is no excuse for the war crimes being committed by the IDF.

Baffled1989 · 24/10/2023 08:55

@Thatisthewayaha the places they tell people to evacuate are bombed, almost immediately.

most people cannot evacuate because they don’t have fuel for their car or bevsysevthe majority of roads have been bombed.

as for humanitarian aid entering where did you get this information? They let 2 trucks in yesterdsy - 2 for 2.3 million? Actually less than 2.3 million people now.

yet again non stop air strikes over night killing mostly women, children and babies. ISRAEL are targeting civilians not Hamas.

absoloutely heart breaking seeing the footage of little hands trapped under the rubble. They didn’t deserve this, they didn’t deserve to die.

Its very clear that none of you have family, friends or know anyone in Gaza right now or you wouldn’t be spouting such nonsense. Oh to be so privileged to walk around with your eyes closed.

10UsernamesNotAvailableTryAnotherOne · 24/10/2023 09:09

Baffled1989-well said. I am disgusted by the mindless support for IDF. I have mentioned how many UN resolutions against Israel has and how they are being investigated by the International Criminal Court, but they willfully ignore this. I am of Jewish heritage. I have family members living in Israel. My Jewish heritage is partly why I am against the actions of the IDF. Never again also means never again to anyone else. Well, it's happening again and these people are turning a blind eye to it.

They are also turning a blind eye to the rise is Islamophobia. People, Muslim or not, can't even protest against what is happening in Palestine without being labelled as terrorist sympathisers, for goodness sake. And there are plenty examples of that in this very thread. A 6 year old boy was stabbed to death as a direct result of Islamophobia. Muslims are now seen as acceptable targets for ethnic cleansing. If that isn't Islamophobia, I don't know what is.

It is a lie to say that channel 4 has established it was an Israeli missile that bombed the hospital car park. A total lie.

Channel 4 News did do a segment that seemed to imply that.

https://www.channel4.com/news/human-rights-investigators-raise-new-questions-on-gaza-hospital-explosion

I watched that segment which does appear to show inconsistencies with what Israel has said. But even assuming - and it is a massive assumption - that the analysis is accurate, it does not demonstrate that it was an Israeli rocket. It would show inconsistencies which then need to be weighed up against everything else, including the many incorrect things that Hamas has said, the type of damage, and the fact that Islamic Jihad said it has rocket fragments but is refusing to provide them for analysis.
