How about a March that is entirely, 100% anti Hamas? Not pro Palestine or pro Israel, anti Hamas?

ganondoof · 23/10/2023 15:16

GotMooMilk · 23/10/2023 14:29

@ganondoof ultimately Israel’s historic behaviour is to blame.

The only ones to blame for the attacks, the attacks whose victims you admit you have no sympathy for, are the people who carried them out.

Coyoacan · 23/10/2023 15:30

So sad to see so many people thinking that the genocide in Palestine is justified because of the actions of Hamas. The eye for an eye rule refers to one eye for one eye and the revenge is to be taken on the guilty party, not on innocent children .

I ws at a march yesterday and not one person expressed support for Hamas

FinnsFineFrog · 23/10/2023 15:31

Could we have a show of hands, who here would like a peaceful 2 state solution with both Israelis and Palestinians enjoying a democratic, peaceful and prosperous society in their own independent nation state, side by side with trade and peaceful close partnership between all the Middle eastern countries, so Iran would have to stop threatening Israel, the whole package. Religious and human tolerance on all sides.

Notaflippinclue · 23/10/2023 15:32

Of course but Hamas would have to be defeated first

MrTiddlesTheCat · 23/10/2023 15:45

Last week they were abusing jewish people and goading them about the holocaust.

Baffled1989 · 23/10/2023 16:05

@Coyoacan same for the peaceful March that happened here. I suspect those commenting have seen one image from one dick on the BBC.

ssd · 22/10/2023 15:36

There were thousands there, i could see them from the concert hall steps right the way up sauchiehall street. Ridiculous its not mentioned.

Maybe, just maybe the media found it crass and in bad taste to show a crowd cheering for Hamas and screaming slurs at Israel while Hamas are still keeping and threatening to kill hostages because they are Israelis? Because I did.

No matter how strongly I feel for the suffering civilians in Gaza (and I'm a very active supporter of them) I can't support a war-lustful crowd laughing and jeeringly cheering that women are being raped and small children killed because they are Jewish and that apparently makes it okay. Shameful. No amount of emotion will ever justify this. The (other) awful part of this is those marching have no idea how repulsed some of us are seeing their blatant anti-Semitic behaviour prancing about having a feast. So many of the hostages were people known to work actively for peace and a two state solution, but to that crowd they were not even human. I feel sick to my stomach when I see those demonstrations.

The problem is Hamas wouldn't want it and the right-wing politicians(military in Israel wouldn't either. They have control, millions in aid or military budget and people trapped in the Gaza strip which both sides use as pawns. Every time a two-state solution is possible, every-time civilians are trying to reach each other, Hamas attacks civilians or Israel bomb in Gaza and then peace talk crumples. Neither side want to get rid of each other for real because they are quite happy with status quo.

Or you just went momentarily deaf when the anti-Semitic slurs were heard. It happens.

That is a shame. But I asked for a show of hands not whether it's a realistic short term goal. I don't get the impression that Free Palestine means a 2 state solution with long-term peace in mind. I think to the free palestine protestors it means Jewish people should leave their homeland, again. These are not peace demos, they whip up hatred and unrest.

Not too dissimilar then to the people on this thread who are saying that no one at the marches expressed support for Hamas suddenly having absolutely nothing to say about GotMooMilks deleted post justifying the rape of Israeli women and butchering of Israeli children.

But only too happy to address concerns about antisemitism with the usual “so sad to see so many people thinking that the genocide in Palestine is justified because of the actions of Hamas” when I, for myself at least, have made no such justifications.

My hand would support! But as you point out, the side everyone is marching for, I am not sure all of them want that either.

I am very sad for all jewish people, it must feel awful watching these marches when there aren't any in support of you, even after Hamas attacked Israel.

Would you go on an anti-Hamas March?

Coyoacan · 23/10/2023 18:08

No. I only march against genocide when it comes to international affairs and I would have just as enthusiastically marched against Hitler

Hamas stated aim is to rid the world of jews. What do you call that?

I'd feel sick as well if the crowd was cheering for hamas and screaming slurs at Israel.

Which didn't happen in Glasgow. I'm sure there was the odd bigot and idiot amongst the hundreds peacefully protesting about the slaughter going on unrelentingly in Palestine. There always is.

I just wonder what you think you’ve achieved.

Hamas are not going to say ‘oh wee Janette and her pals are marching in Glasgow, shite, we’d better stop raping toddlers!’.

Israel aren’t going to suddenly say ‘damn, Davy and shuggie have called around a few people and they have some Palestinian flags, let’s leave the terrorists on our doorstep be’.

No, all you’ve achieved is to ensure British Jews - many of which have British family’s stretching back centuries, many of whom haven’t but had relatives die in gas chambers and we have a safe haven to - these British Jews who are our fellow Brits feel terrified in their own country. Terrified to go to school. Terrified to practice their religion. I hope you are proud of yourselves.

Ineedaholiday23 · 23/10/2023 20:01

The Israeli Gov warned they will bomb the Al- Quds hospital. I have no words for how brave the doctors and nurses staying with the new born babies there are.

i have Jewish heritage but 💯 do not agree with the Isreal government response. All civilian
lives are equal irrespective of religion

Yes, my aunty lives in sheltered housing in a suburb London with a large Jewish population. She says that she and most of the Jewish residents (all pensioners) are terrified to leave their flats now.

I'm so sorry. This is dreadful.
