We're going to get Scottish Labour or Scottish Conservatives, realistically.

SirChenjins · 10/10/2023 13:44

It won’t be the Tories - my money’s on Labour. Hopefully the loony Greens will be no more.

BigBoysDontCry · 10/10/2023 14:07

It will be interesting if labour get the biggest vote/number of MSPs but not an outright majority.

I wonder who they will attempt to work with? To be fair Tories would be the safest bet as they would never vote with the SNP.

So, I think there will be interesting times ahead not only to see who replaces SNP but also to see how the vote is shared across all parties.

GrouchyKiwi · 10/10/2023 15:13

I'm a bit less hopeful about the demise of the SNP since the next Holyrood elections aren't till 2026. That's a lifetime politically.

Knifeandforkwhocares · 10/10/2023 15:38

I don’t get why the SNP keep goading potential Labour supporters with the ‘red Tories’ insult. I would literally vote any one / thing / animal / vegetable if I thought they had a change of getting the SNP and Greens out.

id really love a party dedicated to the environment to be able to vote for, but the greens are literally so far hard left they come out with any sort of unworkable nonsense, and as for their stance on women’s rights, we’ll that’s a joke!

Presumably because for years the SNP were known as the 'Tartan Tories'. Bit odd, really.

I wouldn't be so sure. All recent polls still have the SNP in the lead.

They won't win a majority but would be the largest party in Holyrood.

Oh GOD I'd forgotten about the pigging PR system.

Jaysus.

It'll be whatever Monster Raving party wants to make a coalition with whatever second-best party fails to win outright.

SirChenjins · 10/10/2023 17:55

This. The die-hard Indy voters would vote for a slug if it stood for independence and pinned a yellow and black rosette to itself, but a number will have seen sense and so the remainder of the vote (esp the unionist vote) will be split across the other parties.

mibbelucieachwell · 12/10/2023 12:19

Lisa Cameron has defected to the Conservative Party.

SirChenjins · 12/10/2023 13:04

An odd move for an SNP MP, to say the least!

softkitten · 12/10/2023 13:56

Is that to do with gender ideology or other issues? I heard on the radio there was bullying.

awaynboilyurheid · 12/10/2023 18:41

Lisa Cameron who has now defected said being in the SNP has been bad for my health…. Being led by the SNP has been bad for Scotlands health too! She’s defected to the Tories unbelievable! Just throw all your principles out the window as they have never supported Independance what a shambles and if I was in her constituency I would be so angry.

SirChenjins · 12/10/2023 19:06

What’s the alternative though - defect to the loony Greens or the Alba party headed by that sleazebag?

ArabeIIaScott · 12/10/2023 19:12

Ah, come on now. There's always the Libdems.

I'll get my coat.

guinnessguzzler · 12/10/2023 19:17

Who? 😂

They’re a unionist party though, aren’t they? Confused I can never really remember what they stand for - they don’t seem to know either tbf.

Abhannmor · 12/10/2023 21:37

She could have joined Labour - they no longer back self ID . Tories are doomed so it's a bit odd. This has nothing to do with trans does it? Otherwise lots of SNP heads would be facing a Night of the Long Knives surely.

Apparently Sunak has dealt with this personally. Bit of a coup. But what's in it after the inevitable GE loss? HoL maybe or some quango.

Knifeandforkwhocares · 12/10/2023 21:44

Maybe whisper it there’s more to life than independence and she’s pissed off that the SNP can’t see it?

the snp want one thing and one thing only - to keep themselves in power. To do so they need to keep banging on about independence. Indy voters don’t care if what you say is nonsense, critical reasoning is not their strong points. They also need to keep the greens inside to keep the Holyrood majority.

the problem is the Green Party is the party that lets bearded blokes into women’s changing rooms, that defends those that behead babies, that want your child to go on hormone blockers and by introduced the rent freeze which led to the highest rent increases outside London and 25 people looking to rent each flat. No one wants any of these policies. They are abhorrent.

And now even indy supporters have finally realised they have been sold a lie. Jumping ship from the SNP makes perfect sense. At least the Tories know what a woman is.

Merrilydancing · 12/10/2023 23:30

I hope that Labour use this as an opportunity rather than demonising spitefully as she never came to them.

Labour whipped their MSPs to vote for GRR Bill.

Abhannmor · 12/10/2023 23:39

They did. But now they have withdrawn support , last I heard. Belatedly. Probably because Starmer is tap dancing away from self ID.

That is meaningless. If it weren’t for the Tories and s35, we would have self ID in Scotland and still might depending on how the courts find. I haven’t heard them saying they will campaign to overturn the GRR Bill. Nor do I trust their supposed volte-face. Starmer and his crowd have repeatedly made clear that they consider some men to be women. They didn’t exactly back up the Tories on single sex wards, Nor have they condemned the treatment of Rosie.

SirChenjins · 13/10/2023 08:34

I agree @IWillNoLie Labour are still very much hedging their bets - I suspect they're hoping it will go away quietly. I don't trust them at all on this which leaves me in a predicament in terms of who the hell do I vote for.
