The problem isn’t so much a credible opposition - it’s the fact that the unionist vote is split between the opposition parties which means that the nationalist vote is focused on one party (Alba has yet to be embedded). Then of course we have a bizarre voting system which enables parties like like Greens with a handful of votes to hold so much power - and do the rot continues.

And Alba, who could hold the SNP to account amongst Indy supporters, will drop any opposition/alternative in order to support any Indy supporting candidate including SNP

@Igneococcus got it, thank you so much! I wish I could still read the comments though, perhaps it's time for a subscription ☺️

Igneococcus · 08/08/2023 21:48

The comments are often the best bit @Tallisker it's a pity a sharetoken doesn't give access to them.

TheBelmont · 09/08/2023 10:45

Oh good…he’s going to get the head of the civil service to investigate civil service spending….I’m sure that will provide an entirely unbiased and independent view…honestly….conflict of interest much?

Yousaf orders review of civil service bank card spending

Bowling, pottery lessons and yoga classes were among "away days" paid for on government procurement cards.

Perhaps before writing a book she would have been better opening one of the 22 books bought titled, how to run a government.

SG credit cards used for airport upgrades, yoga classes and nail polish among other things according to this article in the Times:

To put a little context on it, list covers all spending by civil servants in Scotland. There are around 47,000 civil servants in Scotland. That works out at around £100 each.

It's not what it equates to per civil servant and definitely some of the spending was required there is no doubt about that.
But some of those spendings are very questionable, others are purely jollys such as bowling alleys!

It's completely right that people are raising eyebrows to some of it!

Not every civil servant will have ‘benefited’ from the spending - what we have are a small number of more senior level civil servants with their snouts in the trough, taking full advantage of a Govt which views public funds as their own to spend as they wish with no consequences.

RandomGeocache · 10/08/2023 09:25

I cannot BELIEVE that the cybernats are trying to justify this by saying it's only £100 per employee.

Because that makes spending on nail polish and nights at the bowling absolutely fine, doesn't it? 🙄

user567543 · 10/08/2023 10:05

I suspect the key thing is as @SirChenjins that you’ve got a group of entitled civil servants at the centre so the per head figure is nonsense, civil servants are a broad category.
