I fear the ferry scandal (which is an out and out disgrace) just doesn’t get traction with the public given a relatively small proportion are directly impacted. It’s easily lost but is such a massive red flag and indicator of incompetence. People are so blind to things that don’t directly impact them..it’s frustrating!

The ferry thing is just typical SNP. Secure a handful of jobs in an area which votes SNP, irrespective of the cost, and the fact THEY CAN'T EVEN BUILD the fucking ferry. See also Prestwick Airport, another "business" which is losing money hand over fist and they are funding.

Sorry, WE are funding.

Meanwhile this is an interesting development…
https://www.heraldscotland.com/politics/23527079.snp-kept-possible-loss-145-000-grant-auditor-crisis-secret/
Interesting the auditor has found all to be in order with the spending of a (very small) grant. I’m not sure I would take that as an indicator of good governance and spending practices in the party although that is no doubt what it will be spun as.

SNP kept possible loss of £145,000 grant over auditor crisis a secret

THE SNP failed to disclose that it faced the loss of a £145,000 grant during the crisis caused by its auditors quitting despite Humza Yousaf…

Exactly. Given that the majority of their supporters are in the central belt (and more often in areas of deprivation) then they’d have to do something that would directly affect the people living there before there was real outcry.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 17/05/2023 12:23

I thought Prestwick is important becaise it can handle cross Atlantic flights and is often able to operate when Glasgow is not because of its weather?

and that Trump paid a whack to keep it open - it was used for fuelling extraordinary rendition flights to Guantanamo so has always been part of the “special friendship” between the UK and the USA.

so a plane geek told me, anyway

RandomGeocache · 17/05/2023 12:59

Glasgow can handle the biggest plane in the sky - the A380 lands there every day. It's not as straightforward as "it can stay open when Glasgow is not" - BA for example would send planes to Manchester/Edinburgh instead of Prestwick, where they have no ground crew, no fuel agreement, no anything. Trump did pay money to Prestwick to land his jet there and SAID he was going to invest millions about 10 years ago - hasn't happened.

So at the moment there are a few cargo flights every day, and a handful of Ryanair departures.

And Prestwick is losing money every week because Scotland does not need three large airports in Prestwick, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Prestwick Airport needs millions in public money support to remain in existence

EXECUTIVES at nationalised Prestwick Airport are expecting continued multi-million pound public money support to keep it in existence while public…

Sugarfree23 · 17/05/2023 13:01

I thought the argument for Prestwick was that it had a lot of cargo flights rather than passenger flights that Glasgow and Edinburgh have.

RandomGeocache · 17/05/2023 13:02

There aren't a lot of cargo flights. Not enough to make it a viable going concern, anyway.

SquidwardBound · 17/05/2023 13:08

There’s also the marketing absurdity that it’s called Glasgow prestwick airport. Not that doing so has made it a roaring success.

The ferries thing, and lack of public outcry, is pretty indicative of how the Scottish nationalist party and its supporters actually don’t give a toss about most of the country (beyond looking attractive in tourism marketing).

Not that it’s easy for anyone to go and look at the islands in person when actually providing transport to them is such a problem. But, you know, nice picturesque photos on websites and all that.

BlueThursday · 17/05/2023 14:45

Isn’t Prestwick the emergency airport due to its long runway and proximity to the sea?

Sugarfree23 · 17/05/2023 16:00

I think that is part of the reason they want to keep it operational.

Anyone else remember the time back in day when transatlantic flights only flew from Prestwick. The airlines forced the change by taking off from Glasgow, going to Prestwick changing crew and flying out across the atlantic. I remember it being tv news with the crew walking across the tarmac with their cases having done their 'shift'

Hoping this is going to be good.. 🍿

No theories can't imagine they'd arrest Mrs Sturgeon on a Saturday night!

This??

Apparently.

Notapartyanimal · 21/05/2023 20:29

That story was a bit of a damp squib! More evidence of general badness but not really relevant to the current shenanigans.

There are a couple of stories in the telegraph that look interesting but they're behind a paywall so I couldn't read them, looks like there's a suggestion we'll get to the bottom of everything by the end of the summer

You can read the stories behind a paywall by clicking on the link and then quickly clicking on the 'x' in the top right corner which stops the page fully loading.

I've managed to do some screen grabs this way.

It’s all good though folks - they’re holding a special independence conference next month (at a cost of £££s no doubt) for the echo chamber to talk some more about the most important issue for Scotland - the one that we all really, really want them to discuss apparently 🙄

SquidwardBound · 22/05/2023 13:06

Anyone would imagine that they simply don’t have any actual ideas beyond some vague emotionally-driven aspiration towards ‘independence’.

Don’t ask them to have any workable ideas on the detail of that though. That would be ridiculous. It’s not the SNP’s job to do that kind of thing. 🤦🏻‍♀️
