She always wanted rid of Alex Salmond…

you’d need a very large wheelbarrow yo
accommodate his ego.

Scottishskifun · 05/05/2023 18:24

I'm pretty disgusted at 2 million spent on spin Dr's in a single year.....this is the same govt that 'generously' have made 3 million available for long covid support to be split between all the health boards this year with an estimated over 100,000 sufferers in Scotland alone....but apparently 2 million on 14 peoples wages in 1 year is value for money......couldn't make this stuff up!

SirChenjins · 05/05/2023 20:40

SNP economics at its finest - give away money to their pals and pilfer the coffers. It reminds me of another party but I can’t quite think which one…

My interpretation is that what they are investigating is so serious they need another set of eyes on it to make sure there is nothing missed?
Of course the die hard Nats will say big bad westmonster can't stop meddling.

RandomGeocache · 07/05/2023 08:44

I read it that there have been accusations too that the police in Scotland were "encouraged" not to investigate by the Scottish government so are keen to avoid accusations of bias or corruption.

Sugarfree23 · 07/05/2023 08:57

I don't blame the Police for wanting someone else to review what they have found.
Can you imagine the who-hah if they arrest NS only for her to wriggle her way out of it.
You'd absolutely want someone else to look at it before getting to court.

Every party ever

Scottishskifun · 07/05/2023 12:30

Yep exactly this and such a high profile case they will want to make sure every I is dotted and every t crossed before taking action so its actually sensible!

I'm sure it will get spinned but given police Scotland asked for the review shuts down that one pretty quickly!

SirChenjins · 07/05/2023 13:42

Shelefttheweb · 07/05/2023 09:50

Every party ever

To a greater or lesser extent.

Regardless, it doesn’t seem to have stopped the flag waving nats taking to the streets in large numbers. Nothing gets in the way of independence in their minds, it seems. Low standards.

Catsolitude · 07/05/2023 19:34

The allegations are not that the Scottish police involved the NCA. It is that there was a fraud SAR made (suspicious activity report) by maybe a bank or an accountant. This would not have gone to the Scottish police.

Sturgeon was informed on 9th February, hearing this she cleared her diary and resigned a week later. Police Scotland don’t look great here.

That's definitely not what's being reported.

"BBC understands the national force asked the UK agency to carry out an independent review of its inquiry last year."

Catsolitude · 07/05/2023 20:53

Yes I know @Scottishskifun but that’s not what is in the Times. It’s also not what Wings is saying and to be fair he’s been spot on about a lot of this nonsense.

Catsolitude · 07/05/2023 20:59

If and it is an if, it was a suspicious activity report that’s triggered all this, it will have been NCA. The Scottish police were looking into the 600k since one of those Scottish resistance army guys had phoned the police about the “independence fund” not being used for its purpose. So maybe- and this is only my own view- the NCA is not looking at the 600k and something else entirely.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 07/05/2023 21:36

What is the worst scene scenario?

financial laundering that means the party of government goes bust, we have a huge number of independent council, Scottish and Westminster people trying to figure out how to manage and a spot of civil unrest from people who think they are William Wallace?

Shelefttheweb · 07/05/2023 22:04

Up to now it has just been party finance, I wonder if it might cross over to government finance at some point?

It would not surprise me in the least. The sheer sense of entitlement and incompetence shown by SNP would have me believe their spending in government would mirror their party spending approach.

It wouldn't surprise me either if the government money has been paying for stuff it shouldn't be.

TheBelmont · 16/05/2023 18:40

It’s been over a week…I’m feeling starved of news 😂. Just this tidbit…

Privately, prosecutors and police are deeply frustrated by the latest headlines and vehemently deny that the SNP's leadership contest played any part in the timing of the searches.

Well…this is what a raging great conflict of interest does for you. It could be ENTIRELY operational and legit….but nobody believes that for a moment because of the ACTUAL (not even perceived) conflict of interest here.

police outside snp hq

Police waited two weeks for SNP search warrant

The request for permission to search Nicola Sturgeon's home was not granted until after the SNP leadership contest ended.

I don’t know how much credence you can place on it, but on Twitter Wings is alluding to “something” tomorrow. We live in hope!

Scottishskifun · 16/05/2023 19:58

It's definitely very convenient!
It's interesting to read the BBC timeline as when it's written down like that it's red flag after red flag after red flag yet nobody really questioned the SNP elite and instead the usual Westminster blame and shouting was done instead!

It's still very quiet around my way by SNP party members!

SirChenjins · 16/05/2023 20:07

It’s how they’ve been operating for years though - a small pond with big fish sitting in prominent positions in Govt or reporting directly to Govt. Very easy to influence and direct if you operate in this way.

Meanwhile the ferry scandal rumbles on - It seems it would be cheaper to start from scratch with the second ferry. And the senior civil servant responsible for releasing funds has refused to do so unless specifically directed by the Scottish Government minister as it is not value for money. Only the second time this has happened, the last time was in 2007. Though it does make you question why it has taken so long to say this? The change of leader perhaps?
