No judgment, no resilience wankery.

Equal opportunity railing 😃

Could this be the last thread..?!

This is all proper nuts about the theatres. How disappointing. There’s no way I’d go an hour early!

My rail is about the SNP launching their election campaign without allowing journalists in. No accountability once again.

Bonkers who wants to sit in a theatre for an hour before the show starts?
It doesn't even make sense when you consider trains and underground stations, particularly after the big theaters / football matches come out.

mibbelucieachwell · 10/04/2022 10:32

We solved the problem last night by accidentally going to the wrong theatre then having to hurry over to the correct one Grin

I see what pps mean about mask wearing being vastly reduced, ahead of April 18. I hadn't noticed this in supermarkets, but last night I would say fewer than half the people on the trains were wearing masks, especially on the way home. Hurrah.

There was a surprising amount of some of the best seats unoccupied in the theatre. I assume because people either have covid or are still worried about going out when the incidence is relatively high.

WouldBeGood · 10/04/2022 10:38

@mibbelucieachwell one way to solve it 🤣

Was it a good show?

OP posts:
mibbelucieachwell · 10/04/2022 10:56

It was The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night, which was fantastic. I would highly recommend it. @WouldBeGood

womaniswomaniswoman · 10/04/2022 15:26

WTF is this staggered seating shite at the theatre?! We went to the Rep a while ago and it was just get your drink, and pile in like sardines.

What effort do they think it will have? The fucking inanity of some of the lingering 'rules' is so odd.

CharityShopChic · 10/04/2022 18:22

Week to go before we don't have to do the mask thing by law any more.

Scottishskifun · 10/04/2022 19:34

@CharityShopChic

Week to go before we don't have to do the mask thing by law any more.
Assuming we don't get the usual oh it's delayed by two weeks because.......🙄
RaraRachael · 10/04/2022 19:39

Fingers crossed re masks being not required as of next Monday, however...............

Just back from a lovely mask free few days in England. We didn't even bother wearing them in stations or on trains in Scotland and nobody said a word.

WouldBeGood · 10/04/2022 19:45

Christ, surely they’ll go now…

They are less and less in evidence.

Glad you had a good time @RaraRachael! It is so nice to get away!

@Scottishskifun how are your folks doing?

OP posts:
Haudyourwheesht · 10/04/2022 20:24

I fully intend to ignore my theatre arrival time. I've better things to do with my time than sit in a theatre for an hour before the show starts.

WouldBeGood · 10/04/2022 20:28

Also thanks @mibbelucieachwell. DS might like that too

@wouldbegood DF is fine now back to himself, DM not so good but slowly improving and still managing at home. she's still really breathless and fatigued but she's better then she was. Dr treated her in advance for pneumonia on day 2 think it kept her out of hospital tbh. I sent her my breathing exercises so hopefully will help. Thanks for asking 🙂

covid is weird 2 years worrying about DF getting it with how high risk he is and it actually floored DM far worse who is far fitter and healthier. She's nearly a pensioner but still does bike ride challenged of several hundred miles twice a year!

I do think being vaccinated and a milder variant helped massively though!

By this point I think we aren’t even doing things like this because we think they’ll make a difference. We’re doing them because they’re faffy and inconveniencing and remind us that Covid Is Still Out There, so we need to Take This Virus Seriously, and this proves we are doing that. That’s it.

It’s basically ritual, and I think people get grumpy if you say this because they hear “ritual” as “something pointless”. But rituals are meaningful in a lot of sociological ways. They do things. They just don’t help control virus spread.

This morning I would like to rail about some of my colleagues, who have been flailing and wailing about returning to the office since work announced plans to get people back. The latest is “I won’t feel safe coming in after Easter when masks aren’t law everywhere,” from people who also haven’t been coming in when masks were law everywhere. I get why people would prefer to work from home all the time forever but FFS stop whining about it at the rest of us, it’s not going to happen and all that you’ll achieve is work going “sod this, you’re all coming in 3 days a week since you clearly can’t be trusted to make your own decisions.”

Scottishskifun · 11/04/2022 08:49

Your colleagues sound like some of mine @Goldenomber! I have some who would happily never return and wish to work from home forever but my work doesn't offer that they have moved to hybrid of 50/50

CharityShopChic · 11/04/2022 08:58

I was talking to a woman yesterday who told me "she could cry" when she sees people going into the supermarket without wiping the trolley fist.

That'll be me then...

GoldenOmber · 11/04/2022 09:00

My work are still saying one day in the office a fortnight is okay for hybrid, but even this is too much for some people “when covid is still a threat”. Hmm

It’s hard to tell how much of this is people genuinely scared, and how much is people who just like being at home grasping on to anything to make not coming in sound more reasonable. I suspect a bit of both.

Dinoteeth · 11/04/2022 09:08

Can I moan about the people who spray the trolley handles but don't wipe leaving it sticky for the next user?

mapleleavesreturn · 11/04/2022 09:21

Well it makes me want to cry when my kids dump tonnes of hand sanitiser on themselves by rote whenever they see it.

Back from a lovely week in canaries, slightly marred by jobsworth EasyJet stewardess on way back lecturing 7 year old on mask wearing. So silly when you wear it, sit down and remove to munch crisps. But I'm sure that walk down the aisle makes all the difference!

I agree that it’s not actually designed to stop spread @GoldenOmber. There is now so much evidence that mask mandates in the real world (as opposed to idealised laboratory conditions) don’t prevent spread that even the SG advisers with their odd ideas must be aware of it. Who’d have guessed that putting an ill-fitting possibly dirty piece of cloth over your face to walk to the loo after breathing freely for a couple of hours would have minimal impact?

I would take issue with the idea that we even need to ‘take it seriously’ at this point. We have extremely high immunity to serious illness, sky high rates of infection have not translated into ICU or deaths, and the evidence that our measures are doing harm continues to build up. People desperately need a break from ‘taking it seriously’ so that we can start to recover, in all kinds of ways!

GoldenOmber · 11/04/2022 10:52

Yes, agreed. The idea of everyone living with constant restriction and caution because “covid is still out there” - when covid is always going to still be out there! - is just not good for people. We can’t actually micromanage our way to a risk-free existence and it’s not healthy to pretend we can.

RaraRachael · 11/04/2022 12:14

Apparently masks will no longer be mandatory in schools from Monday, but "most councils will ask staff to wear them voluntarily". Well they can try, but that won't be happening with me. I don't care if I'm the only maskless member of staff Grin

Dinoteeth · 11/04/2022 12:20

Thanks goodness for that in schools been a long over due announcement.

Tomorrowisanewday · 11/04/2022 12:32

Is there an announcement on masks generally this week (for them being no longer mandatory in shops etc from Monday 18th)?

WouldBeGood · 11/04/2022 13:10

Hurray to no mandatory masks in schools!!
