The railing never ends.

No resilience wankery, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides.

I hope so @ElephantOfRisk!

and that will be a good news story that our dear leader can issue before Christmas to spread joy throughout the country.

ResilienceWanker · 02/12/2021 13:32

Railing against the cancellation of a carol singing thing that DS was looking forward to this weekend. Lots of guff about "uncertainty around the new variant" and "keeping our families safe"... Am now assuming that the same organisation will cancel the concert planned for the following week, which DS has been practicing really hard for. Way to encourage artistic endeavour and hard work. Xmas Angry We do indeed seem to be putting ourselves back into last year, just so organisations can be seen to be Being Safe...

mapleleavesreturn · 02/12/2021 15:03

That's such a shame when so much effort has gone into practice

rookiemere · 02/12/2021 15:06

I do agree @ResilienceWanker that organisations are imposing their own mini lockdowns regardless of what is or isn't allowed.
We were given vouchers in lieu of a Christmas party a couple of weeks ago, before the new wfh advice came into force. To be fair, I'm not that bothered about a Christmas do, but it does seem like these Draconian whims do seem to primarily be directed towards DCs.

runningpink · 02/12/2021 15:32

I went to a bookbug class this week. First time i have been since lockdowns etc
I took my lanyard to use as knew I couldn’t cope that long in a mask and as it was for work it wasn’t something I could really avoid.

It appears that normally they could remove masks once sitting down but there had been new guidance issued this week stating that they had to remain on the whole time for the adults BUT the lady taking the group didn’t need to have one on.
Just felt bonkers when you can be in a restaurant, club etc with no masks when seated.

Just glad I took the lanyard

readsalotgirl63 · 02/12/2021 17:41

Re the Bookbug session @runningpink - the guidance issued this week is not exactly new but rather clarification of the position.

I ( for my sins) had to spend quite a lot of time back in the summer trying to decipher the guidance on "unregulated activity for children in libraries" which covered Bookbug and have to say it was not clear whether or not those attending could remove masks once seated.

In my authority we erred on the side of caution and have asked attendees to keep masks on. However the guidance was that the person leading or facilitating the session could remove their mask once seated. The guidance on singing and it being a high risk activity was a whole other level of complication crazy.

I agree that much of it is illogical but .....

I have a lovely yoga workshop booked with DD for Sunday. But it’s in a tiny room and now I’m worried about contacts and self isolating, it’s invidious

OP posts:
Lidlfix · 03/12/2021 06:56

I am similar prior to anything I'n looking forward to. Though I get worried that I 'll be contact traced before and miss my plans. I always tag "if it goes ahead on". I can just about manage this since being contact traced and having an isolation of less than 24 hours. I know that's depending on test turn around, that was in the August spike so really busy. Apologies if there is anything resilience wankery in there it's intended to sound sympathetic not preachy.I love the build up, planning and getting excited to special days and resent that I can't let myself dream anymore.

WouldBeGood · 03/12/2021 08:02

Yes, @Lidlfix the build up and looking forward to things is my favourite bit!

I think if you’re contact traced for being near an omicron case though you have to isolate for ten days regardless of vaccination status or testing?

Is this right?

Technically it would mean as we get closer to Christmas that DD couldn’t come over, so I’m really worried. Maybe getting too panicky!

OP posts:
Lidlfix · 03/12/2021 08:20

Think you're right about Omicron, maybe been sticking my fingers in my ears a bit there as we have relatives from overseas coming and if that falls through (again) we will all be heartbroken. I had been fixating on testing regime and ranting about the 2 day and isolate till negative result in. Day 8 wasn't even getting headspace.

What's the ventilation like at the yoga venue?

WouldBeGood · 03/12/2021 08:22

DD tells me it’s just a tiny cosy room. She goes for meditation. The class sounded so lovely and relaxing - Yule yoga and yoga nidra

I heard someone on TV saying one of the biggest things covid has robbed us of is certainty.
Too true

mibbelucieachwell · 03/12/2021 08:35

Morning all.

wouldbegood That's my understanding, although there's been very little news about it. But, from an enforcement POV I don't see how anyone could prove that you weren't dutifully self-isolating in your bedroom while your DD is safely sticking to other areas of your home.

resiliencewanker so disappointing for your DS especially when he's been preparing for it.

I've told my wee music pupils who would normally come to me for a wee Christmas get together that I'll host something towards the end of January. And I'm finishing lessons on 10th to protect Christmas from you know what. It feels rubbish doing this.

WouldBeGood · 03/12/2021 08:52

It is really sad. Music and singing are such a big part of Christmas.

DD doesn’t live here though. Although we’re thinking of having her “move in” before Christmas just in case.

She has a work night out and has been told that in addition to bringing her vaccine passport sge must do a lateral flow, register the result with the NHS and show proof she has done so. Then wear a mask at the party.

OP posts:
ElephantOfRisk · 03/12/2021 08:59

It's such a shame that we are dealing with all this uncertainty yet again.

I just think that lots of things just won't come back again and our lives will be less rich for it.

On a positive note, we are not having work Christmas parties again (I don't go anyway) and instead we are getting an extra day off to be taken next year instead.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 03/12/2021 09:12

I hate all the uncertainty. We've got quite a few lovely things planned in the run up to Christmas but they now feel like hurdles to get over to safely reach the big day.

My work Christmas do is next week - we have to do LFTs but no proof or anything required. There's around 30 of us and we're taking it on trust. I can't imagine anyone in the team that's coming wouldn't take the test. It's always great fun, but I'm mostly worried about the risk to other plans now. Harrumph.

WouldBeGood · 03/12/2021 10:00

It’s rubbish. And the knock on effects go on.

DD decided not to go. And so has cancelled her tan, nails, and hair. More businesses affected.this really does need to stop.

She’s twenty, she should be out having fun not having to stress about this, and providing medical details for a bit of turkey and dancing. Though people don’t want to dance, cos Covid 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 03/12/2021 10:12

Agree @WouldBeGood. The young woman who does my nails just went self-employed just before covid. Limited support was available to her when her business was closed because she didn't have a year's books and her erratic income in the last two years have hampered her plans to get on the property market. I really feel for her and all the young people who are not having the fun and frivolous 20s they should be doing!

mapleleavesreturn · 03/12/2021 11:52

At least I've got a new dog to keep me optimistic this Christmas, I'm ignoring all news, there is so much conjecture in tbe papers as usual.

runningpink · 05/12/2021 18:05

How’s everyone’s weekend been?

WouldBeGood · 05/12/2021 18:12

Hi, @runningpink. Very bad day yesterday as visited my old dad, so massively stressful and depressing. But today I went to a lovely festive yoga workshop with DD and am feeling much better.

I’ve been terribly anxious about the possibility of more restrictions but after that and a bracing dog walk in the sun a little peace has returned.

Also took DS for his jag today, after considering it all carefully, so at least that’s something I can stop ruminating on!

How are you?

OP posts:
runningpink · 05/12/2021 18:27

Oh I’m sorry visiting your day was so stressful.
I’m glad you made it to the festive yoga though and that you enjoyed that.

I’m trying not to think about more restrictions but it’s hard not to.

Quiet weekend really. My parkrun was cancelled yesterday and didn’t have time to get to another one.
Just been trying to catch up on jobs round the house. I have my Christmas tree up now so feeling a bit more festive.

mapleleavesreturn · 05/12/2021 18:29

Watched all the amazing runners from Edinburgh's christmas charity weekend in Inverleith park today, was so nice to see so many people turn out to run for charity - hope they raised some good money.

The dc had a wonderful time eating hot dogs, bungee bouncing, twirling on the teacups, felt so normal.

There was one huge downside though, my elder dd wants me to the charity 5km with her next year, argh!

frasersmummy · 05/12/2021 18:52

Is there Talk of more restrictions?? Our case numbers are steady and hospital numbers falling

What's the conjecture??
