The railing never ends.

No resilience wankery, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides.

@mapleleavesreturn

I'll probably wait to see what happens Dec 19 - one thing I've learned with covid travel is that the later you change the better!
Very true! DH and his friend is literally booking a ski trip a week before they plan to go as he's fed up with the uncertainty although going by the options at the moment Andorra, France and Italy will be busy! They are looking at Norway now which will probably stop him drinking a lot given the price of everything there 😂
Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 30/11/2021 09:58

Yes @Scottishskifun, I predict there’ll be a not so subtle dig at Boris for saying no to her demands, lots of talk about being ‘cautious’ and ‘responsible’ for those few who still believe Scotland is having a better pandemic than England. I do get the sense though that people have had it with restrictions (maybe why she’s calling them ‘protections’ now), especially as we can all see that England is no worse off for not having these ‘protections’. In fact, looking at excess deaths this mornings, Scotlands are actually slightly higher (although I’d still say it’s largely the same), so even if we have had fewer COVID deaths we have more deaths elsewhere instead.

Lockdownbear · 30/11/2021 10:39

What time is Boris on his soap box?
5pm, will be OK, 8pm = bad news. Or that's my theory anyway

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 30/11/2021 13:47

Marking my spot and railing about the sheer amount of shit I need to get through in the next 2 weeks.

Also kids off school for at andrews day is fucking with my plans

WouldBeGood · 30/11/2021 14:12

4pm I read, @Lockdownbear.

Herself on about now

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 30/11/2021 14:22

If he's on at 4pm he'll not be telling us anything wild we don't already know.

mibbelucieachwell · 30/11/2021 14:34

What's she saying please?

mibbelucieachwell · 30/11/2021 14:41

Ahh. I found a Glasgow Live article.
So, all the omicron cases in Scotland are from the same initial source.
Eh, how is that worthy of a public statement?

OnceUponAWhine · 30/11/2021 14:43

Herself wasn’t being truthful on Marr then, was she?

Apparently there’s going to be LFTs available at shopping centres, garden centres etc. What’s the plan there then? A quick swipe around your nostrils, wait 5 minutes before you pop in for a pint of milk🤪

(Thanks for new thread @WouldBeGood)

ElephantOfRisk · 30/11/2021 14:51

and did she say whether that source was COP related?

ElephantOfRisk · 30/11/2021 14:53

actually just found it - all relate to "a single private event on 20th November"

Shows the uselessness of masks and vaccine passports

It sort of makes you wonder if mask act as a breeding ground once covid is inside the mask your more likely to develop covid19.

Does that make sense?

mibbelucieachwell · 30/11/2021 15:15

A truly graphic illustration of your point wouldbegood

I was horrified to learn from a friend who's in hospital that patients on open wards are required to wear masks! Even while ill in bed. I don't know if this is also supposed to apply while asleep but I mean really honestly how horrific.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 30/11/2021 15:39

Mask mandates really are Emperor's New Clothes territory (at least the face coverings that the UK general public mainly use). It's fairly obvious by any interpretation of the data that if they do have any effect at all it is tiny and swamped by other things like vaccination or even ventilation. England ditched theirs and have been no worse off at all than the home nations who didn't (and you might argue they were slightly better off). Peaks have risen and fallen in all UK nations regardless. Yet we are all supposed to ignore the evidence and our own common sense and believe that putting a flimsy piece of (often dirty) cloth or tissue paper over our face is going to protect us from COVID. Is it pure psyops? To convince the public that something is being done, even if that something is almost certainly completely ineffective? To distract us while the virus runs its natural course, which is probably has to do anyway?

rookiemere · 30/11/2021 16:23

I just read the Scotsman summary of her briefing, anyone sense she wanted to do her usual dark pronouncements but then realised the general mood in the camp was not supportive of that.

rookiemere · 30/11/2021 16:26

And yes on the masks @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us . I sometimes make the mistake in the general coronavirus threads of pointing out that Scotland never ditched masks and it doesn't seem to have changed the outcomes very much, but people don't want to hear it.

Personal view is if we have to wear masks then we should all be issued with regular supplies of medical grade masks, perhaps a better use of public money than never ending supply of free lateral flow tests.

WouldBeGood · 30/11/2021 16:59

I think governments love masks as it’s perceived that they are doing something, at no cost to them. Puts the burden squarely on the public. The public likes the be seen to be Good, and concerned about others.

Government people don’t wear them themselves though. As they know they are pointless.

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 30/11/2021 17:06

It's definitely a bit of flag waving look we are doing something.

It's crazy they have got people brainwashed. "We need to learn to live with it", "I just wear my mask and get on with life" from the same person doesn't see the contraction in those too statements.

Masks are not normal, nor should they be the new normal. I was reading on Craicnet the Irish boards they want masks on 9yos in school, please God no because a, it nonsense and b, Queen Nic will follow suit. I'd clicked before I realised it was the Irish board.

mibbelucieachwell · 30/11/2021 17:34

It really gets my goat when posters claim that mask wearing is a minor inconvenience for people who don't have to wear them for long periods of time and that you don't hear health professionals complaining about wearing them so ordinary members of the public shouldn't complain either.

Even health professionals don't usually wear masks even when dealing with vulnerable patients. Eg, the staff on chemo wards don't routinely, in my personal experience usually (in normal times) wear masks. And the health professionals who do have to wear masks for long periods of time do sometimes complain about it. Cos it's uncomfortable, bad for your skin, hot and bothersome. Obviously, why on earth wouldn't it be?

Scottishskifun · 30/11/2021 17:46

I have several friends who are healthcare professionals they wear them because they are told to it's hospital rules and for my friends in ICU they get high grade protection ones which try to protect them.
But they do see issues they just don't complain publicly because its against conduct etc. Like many professions they are held by code of conduct etc.

@rookiemere I agree and in Germany when FFP2 were mandatory on public transport that's what they did. The grade of mask needed to be of proper preventative benefits though is extremely high.

Unfortunately many believe they are magical and a cloth mask stops all viral particles.....would love that to be true but sadly its not. Ventilation is by far a more effective reduction measure but obviously more expensive so it just seems like a distraction technique by govt tbh.

I always love the they wear them in SE Asia etc arguement too......that's mostly for pollution levels and customs are also different including level of physical contact.

WouldBeGood · 30/11/2021 17:47

I’m really glad it’s not true @Scottishskifun, to be honest. Horrible way to live. If they worked we’d be backed forever!!!

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 30/11/2021 18:13

True! I suppose I see it as if they worked then the virus would have been stopped in its tracks already!
I think most people hang onto what they were told initially regardless of how things develop! It's developed and escaped masks so effectiveness is reduced but some people are adamant that's not the case regardless of the studies.

Scottishskifun · 30/11/2021 20:02

🙄 so NS has finally released a statement about what has been happening up here.....4 hours ago and people are going into their 4th night of no power,no heat, no water.

She's actually taking a bit of a bashing for it and people calling her out on the delay. The storm has been 30% worse then beast from the east and the worst in 30 years.
To give a scale our local woods has lost 35-40% of trees in one night.

The local authority has also been slow but at least they recognised early on and started with support including hot food, they were completely out of their depths very quickly and asking for support from local food trucks etc.

I'm just astonished even after the police declared a major incident there was radio silence from the govt for 3-4 days
