The railing never ends.

No resilience wankery, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides.

Not the experience DH and I had with FV . Though I am almost 6 calendar months anyway as they pushed through teachers for second doses. DH was online last night and appointment for today- mine is next week as I was picky over times. We maybe just called or tried website as a batch of appointments were released .

ElephantOfRisk · 01/12/2021 18:18

I'm pretty sure it's official that they aren't reducing the gap. There were quite a few folks on here expecting to get an earlier appointment or to be jagged if they were early.

They seem to be very busy with the schedule as it is.

WouldBeGood · 01/12/2021 18:27

I saw a chap on Twitter who’d booked an appointment but was turned away when he went cos deemed too soon.

Maybe just a lack of communication to staff on the ground?

Though I just reread what I typed. By cancelling appointments I was talking about hospital appointment rather than jab appointments, sorry for the confusion.

I also managed fine to book, in fact I changed mine as I realised I was a few days too early and didn't want to chance it as DH had already been sent away when he was early, though that was a while ago.

When I went they were running late so I regretted the 10 minutes I sat in the car since I was early and I was obeying the instruction to arrive on time.

Calmdown14 · 01/12/2021 20:36

I'm assuming the system recognises when you can have it? I went on expecting to book for January (just before three month UK announcement) and it let me book from early December.

This would be five months but it recognised I couldn't have any before December 7 so took it to mean as soon as it will let you book is fine?

Is that everyone else's experience?

ElephantOfRisk · 01/12/2021 20:38

I don't think it's that clever. I think the 7th December is that there aren't any appointments prior to that rather than it being the earliest that you are able to have it.

Calmdown14 · 01/12/2021 21:07

Hmm. It went from offering nothing to appointments all day every day.
It's not easy to find the proper information about timeframes and when these come into force.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 01/12/2021 21:16

I've booked an appointment for next week which is just over 5 months since my 2nd. I agree with @ElephantOfRisk I think it's about availability rather than when I'm supposed to book for. I just had a look just now and there was a stray appointment available which annoyingly didn't suit time wise.

I don't think they've really got the logistics in place around shortening the booster time, 2nd jabs for the 12-15s yet. I'm hoping by the time I turn up for my appointment I'll be allowed to have it.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 01/12/2021 21:20

Just spotted an article on the bbc about over 40s being turned away for boosters because of less than 6 months. Updated guidance is being issued in next 24 hours - link here

Scottishskifun · 01/12/2021 22:53

Just watching the news....JS rejecting the criticism that it's taken too long to visit storm effected areas and release statements and then said as soon as it was possible he came ummm yep because a party conference at the weekend 2 days after is clearly more important than offering support and assistance to tens of thousands of people.....Angry

What a fecking joke!

WouldBeGood · 01/12/2021 23:02

To be fair, do you want Swinney to visit? 🤣

OP posts:
duvetdrama · 01/12/2021 23:08

@Scottishskifun yep, far too late in the day. Support for us in the NE was poor. NS didn't even give the tens of thousands without power a mention until 3 days after the event! Makes you wonder what the response and reaction would've been like if it had been households in the Central belt affected instead Hmm Been a tough 6 days that's for sure, delighted to have the house warm again tonight...

ElephantOfRisk · 01/12/2021 23:34

Houses in the central belt were affected, still hundreds without power in Stirling-shire. Obvs not as many as North east but there were thousands here too and nothing said or done either.

ElephantOfRisk · 02/12/2021 00:04

Very glad that you are finally back in power now though, it must have been hellish!

Scottishskifun · 02/12/2021 08:16

@duvetdrama glad you are back warm! We escaped very lightly but friends not so much.

@elephantofrisk it feels all have been ignored. I highly doubt if this had happened in Glasgow then it would have taken so long to get welfare set up or say or do something. Definitely feels like rural communities are expected to get on with it.

The communities have been great there is still a online list for effected postcodes on the go so they can direct support service but they can only do so much, it needs big help big machinery and generators.

@wouldbegood haha he got a bit of a frosty reception (no pun intended) given we have woken up to more snow this morning!

ElephantOfRisk · 02/12/2021 09:04

We have managed to get emergency relief teams to remote places on the other side of the world faster than we've been able to support our own people.

Now I know that we are generally a very privileged population, but we are a population now reliant on power for even the most basic of needs and for communication with vulnerable citizens.

I know everyone will have been working hard in difficult circumstances but this is a situation where more people and machines and support services would make a difference.

Scottishskifun · 02/12/2021 10:07

Yep @elephantofrisk just had a update to say that the army is being deployed to the area to help out and undertake welfare checks.

Except the council cannot ask directly so they had to ask SG for them to consider the request and send it to the UK govt...... apparently it went in days ago to SG just seems there has been zero sense of urgency from SG on this.
More power cuts this morning from the snow and winds last night.

mibbelucieachwell · 02/12/2021 10:16

More power cuts. ShockOh no.
Radio Scotland phone in this morning on this subject. One of the callers mentioned the lack of maintenance over the past few years. Eg taking down rotten trees, branches etc near power lines. The electricity provider in NE has made massive profits.

My rail this morning is about the fear of things being cancelled due to Omicron. DS is worrying that his Christmas/Hogmanay work might be cancelled. His friend is worrying that his tour of the Netherlands in early 2022 might be cancelled. I'm hopeful they won't be but it's another wave of uncertainty and worry isn't it? How many more thousands of people will be worrying again? Sad

WouldBeGood · 02/12/2021 10:53

That’s one of the worst things @mibbelucieachwell, the fear of not knowing. You can’t rely on work, nor look forward to anything. It’s pretty terrible.

I really think that unless there's another massive COVID wave that actually threatens hospital capacity (which seems vanishingly unlikely), Christmas will be unaffected, except for perhaps some 'advice' about doing a test before you go out. There really doesn't seem to be any appetite amongst the public for any further restrictions, and no politician is making any noises in this direction - even Sturgeon is saying she's not asking people to change plans! My usually cautious parents have declared that they are having a family Christmas whatever happens, and my boss has said that the Christmas party will go ahead as planned (although if people want they can do a test beforehand).

ElephantOfRisk · 02/12/2021 12:39

I think despite the "new variant" attempt to cause panic by the media etc people are starting to get back to a more normal way of being. I mean, I just booked a table for lunch out with family and I didn't even consider how many people/how many households etc. I just picked a time, counted the diners and booked it. Just like that. I've not been out very much so it felt like a big thing to me Grin

mibbelucieachwell · 02/12/2021 12:49

And if the new variant becomes the dominant strain here being a contact of a case will mean the 10 day isolation rule will apply to most contacts.

For freelancers literally in the gig economy and people like them I don't even know how that will work re loss of earnings. There are no contracts and even when there are the loss of potential work as a result of not being seen playing at things is incalculable. The effects could be quite long lasting.

Another example of this is the many big events that were cancelled last year have rolled over to next year with the same performers (which seems like a sensible way of doing things that have to be cancelled) but it means that people like my son, newly on the scene won't get work at these events next year because the acts have already been booked.

WouldBeGood · 02/12/2021 12:52

That's such a shame @mibbelucieachwell

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 02/12/2021 12:53

The ten day isolations will also totally fuck the NHS

OP posts:
ElephantOfRisk · 02/12/2021 13:01

Call me pollyanna, but i think the 10 day isolation will be dropped pretty quickly when the reality of what that means hits home.
