The railing never ends.

No resilience wankery, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides.

I thought Whitty and his mate Patrick were OK, actually they gave me some confidence in what was happening.
I always thought it was a marked contrast than when BJ did his announcements he had the guys with the science beside him. But NS was always her alone, I rarely tune in to watch the Nicola show but when I have seen it she never has anyone on with her.

I was out as a show tonight, I'd say 95% of the seats were full, if they want people to stay away from places they are going to have to force it rather than thinking people will pay good money then not to go.

I genuinely think Scotland should have used the summers when numbers were low to ease restrictions and give people a mental break.
Instead people are now scunnered with restrictions.

Nobody is going to have any confidence that Christmas 2022 is going to be any different. Sorry to be the gloom munger tonight but I just can't see how anyone can promise me a normal Christmas 2022.

Lockdownbear · 18/12/2021 01:16

@ssd definitely something going on with his hair, Grin he must do something to actually make it that messy.

Scottishskifun · 18/12/2021 09:20

Just watching breakfast with a report that England have set up 24 hour walk in booster centre, football clubs, Christmas markets etc being used.

I can't help.feel that although we have good numbers we are too slow! Reports in our area was that under 40s were being turned away from walk ins this week.

I hate to agree with Douglas Ross but for weeks upon weeks he has been asking the SG to open mass vaccination centres in different places and speed up. With the response from NS always the same that Scotland has more of the population vaccinated.

I don't dispute that fact but I do wonder why again it feels like we are slower in speed up given all the messaging in the last 2 weeks.

“I genuinely think Scotland should have used the summers when numbers were low to ease restrictions and give people a mental break.

I agree with this completely @Lockdownbear. The Scottish government have played this very badly, especially as it was appreciated from the start by the behavioural people that the public would/could only comply for so long. I think part of it was taking bad advice from ‘experts’ who believed we were close to elimination, indeed that this was even possible for a virus like this one, so they pushed us harder because of that. And now that they’ve belatedly joined the ‘here to stay’ party they have instincts that are too authoritarian. The first instinct is to inspire fear and control people, putting the most negative possible spin on a situation, and there’s only so much of that people can take before they switch off completely. Nicola has made clear that if she gets the funds she’ll close more businesses. I think people have had enough of it, not least because we can all see that for all the extra ‘caution’ and ‘it hasn’t gone away’ (even through periods where there was very little infection) we’re not even any better off COVID wise. It probably actually left us more vulnerable during the last wave (largest in the UK) because of a lack of natural immunity that say England had in addition to the vaccines.

“With the response from NS always the same that Scotland has more of the population vaccinated.“

I’ve noticed this too. I thought the race was with this virus that has ‘learned to run faster’ than with the other UK nations, so surely it’s better to maximise capacity rather than settle for being ‘slightly better than England’. I guess old habits die hard. Vaccine centres around here have tonnes of spare capacity - they are never that busy - so madness to be turning people away if under 40 at this point.

Scottishskifun · 18/12/2021 09:37

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us oh I know and going by social media some people are now going what's the point!
They only decided on Wed/Thurs to open them up at the weekend for appointments.... there just seems to be one thing said by parliament but in my area that urgency seems to be delayed.
Great that they are opening up Edinburgh but why on Tuesday.....why not have contingency planning in place months ago which can be acted on quicker!

Haudyourwheesht · 18/12/2021 09:58

The vaccine centres around me (Glasgow) are all mentally busy. Huge queues and very few appointments. Mine is at 9 at night. They can't complain about people's vaccine uptake.

2022HereWeCome · 18/12/2021 10:07

I really really don't know why they didn't plan for earlier roll out at more local centres. They know people are more likely to turn up when they have appointments / services are conveniently closer to home.

Drop ins suit some people but a lot of people (mainly women with are already juggling families and jobs and other caring responsibilities) don't have the ability to hang around queuing.

Kshhuxnxk · 18/12/2021 10:16

I watched the Christmas Specialof the Cockfields last night. Ended up in floods of tears at the end when they were all in the pub with friends and family having a sing song, I miss my life. God I can't take much more of this.

ecceromani · 18/12/2021 10:35

I'm feeling very sorry for Ireland. They had the longest, strictest lockdown in Europe and now their hospitality all has to close by 8pm.
They also have lot more people in ICU than we have.
Their lockdowns haven't worked out well for them in the longer term and the people are weary

WouldBeGood · 18/12/2021 10:41

We have drop in clinics here this weekend at the eleventh hour, but only for first or second doses for over 16s, no boosters. Seems weird, given how many people have the first ones already

Scottishskifun · 18/12/2021 11:50

Yep this is the thing it's completely doom and gloom but just feels like yet again they are slow, turning people away and making it difficult for the public. Its literally like in January when Scotland was identifying vaccination hubs.....they had months to do it just like now they had months to set up ramp up, offer more options and locations etc etc but still didn't learn.
They knew boosters were needed they knew winter was going to be tough so why not have decent contingency planning for ramp up and quick ramp up!

Scottishskifun · 18/12/2021 11:55

In other railing 40 million of Scottish tax payer money spent on bodged rangers prosecution......wtaf!!!!!

Yep SG has a great handle on not wasting money as I frequently get told on Scotnet ConfusedXmas Hmm

ElephantOfRisk · 18/12/2021 11:59

Not by me you don't! Grin

If I had my own business and was looking to employ an office junior, I wouldn't employ any of them. They are either stupid, incompetent, arse coverers/liars or corrupt - or a mixture of any/all. sits and waits to be told "ah but Boris/tories etc..."

WouldBeGood · 18/12/2021 12:28

And they’ll be wasting more tax payers money on the court costs of the census gender question 🙄

Scottishskifun · 18/12/2021 12:45

Haha @elephantofrisk no definitely not by you but yes definitely agree with your strike through!

It's like 2 children hitting a teacher one is 10 one is 6 one is worse but both are wrong!

WouldBeGood · 18/12/2021 12:51

@Kshhuxnxk I have that taped, love the Cockfields (though suspect I may be Sue😳). It’s all very hard

@ecceromani that’s what’s freaking me: doing the same again because it hasn’t worked. It’s nuts.

Is that not the definition of an idiot? Doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result?

I know it's the wrong thread @WouldBeGood but sorry to hear about your knee. I'd definitely be looking for another opinion. In the meantime would swimming maybe be better for you in terms of exercise?

titsintiers · 18/12/2021 12:59

It's the definition of insanity I believe @ElephantOfRisk

WouldBeGood · 18/12/2021 13:01

Thanks @ElephantOfRisk. Yes, but I loathe swimming (unless in the sun on holiday!) so will never do it. I also loathe cycling, sadly! Can still do my weight training, but it’s really crushed me. I was feeling a great sense of achievement with my efforts.

Yes you are correct! Maybe I'm the idiot today Smile
ssd · 18/12/2021 13:11

Sorry to hear you've hurt your knee @WouldBeGood, what happened? Ive started swimming again after years of not going and i must admit i love it. It calms me down a bit. Could you try it once, or even aqua aerobics? Might help a teeny bit.

Thats hellish about the wasted money. Is there anyone decent left in politics??

WouldBeGood · 18/12/2021 13:20

Thanks @ssd. Nothing really, but been to physio and he was really depressing: says age and fat (I’m really not that fat!) and muttering about walking sticks. But despondent as I’ve been trying so hard.

OP posts:
ssd · 18/12/2021 13:32

Ach thats rubbish cheeky bugger.
Is another physio an option, one who doesnt make you feel rubbish?
