The railing never ends.

No resilience wankery, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides.

We didn't have anything booked from now til Christmas anyway but friends we expected to meet up with will now be a card and gift doorstep drop off, as she is clinically vulnerable. So that's disappointing.

WouldBeGood · 16/12/2021 19:24

No scanning.

I never do it anyway. Wave camera general direction

@frasersmummy

right i'm railing against this stay at home much more than normal .. what does that mean when everything is still open.

Am I not supposed to send my child to school, am I not supposed to go to the panto I booked

Am I not supposed to buy last minute presents in the shops
Am I not supposed to have lunch with a colleague

All these things are allowed so what does it mean ?? does she just mean be an adult and use common sense and if she does why doesnt she just say that

Yes, I'm the same! I'm going out more than normal, because, well, it's Christmas - but less than a normal Christmas! Is that good enough? Our children's crib service has been cancelled on Christmas eve (which we weren't going to go to, as we were travelling) so instead we're meeting up this week to build the set and record it so it can be broadcast virtually! So that's some pre-Christmas contact replacing no contact, so that lots of other people can have no contact. Is that good or bad?! Who knows?

As things aren't cancelled, I'm still going to them because I'm a stingy git who hates paying money/ planning for stuff and then not going. I'm not especially worried about covid, though it would be annoying not to see DPs over Christmas, but if NS wants me to stop going and potentially spreading germs to others, I'm afraid they'll have to do something a bit more definitive that allows me my money back! Because at the moment it sounds as if they are trying to guilt trip me into making myself lose out, and I'm not keen on that...

My civic duty *@rookiemere* 😃
Ha! Indeed. Xmas GrinWine Kate Forbes should be proud of you...
OldaRailer · 16/12/2021 19:53

That's what my companion did WouldBeGood!

Scottishskifun · 16/12/2021 20:51

We aren't cancelling plans but most of our plans were outside.

We did a light show tonight was so pretty! For a dry evening it was pretty quiet so I think many were paying attention to NS today. Great that it wasn't busy for us but felt sorry for some of the vendors!

I do think people are back being scared which has a massive toll on mental health. An outdoor light show with spacing is pretty much one of the safest Christmas activities to do!

WouldBeGood · 16/12/2021 20:55

If anyone is wanting fancy food, lots of the top restaurants have spaces where there are normally long waits

Everything else is being cancelled. Santa visits, Christmas markets, club nights, gigs 😭

Haudyourwheesht · 16/12/2021 21:16

I'm on a families Facebook group and there are so many posts where folk are trying to sell tickets for stuff. This is another reason why things are going to be cancelled.

rookiemere · 16/12/2021 21:19

@WouldBeGood or anyone can you recommend any normally hard to get into Edinburgh restaurants? Friend and I fancy going out for lunch next week but couldn't think beyond our usual suspects.

WouldBeGood · 16/12/2021 21:26

Martin Wishart had spaces @rookiemere.

WouldBeGood · 16/12/2021 21:29

Aizle at the Kimpton too- looks good though I’ve not been there. On my list!

OP posts:
rookiemere · 16/12/2021 21:29

Ooh I've not been to Wisharts for years. Not sure I can tempt my friend out to Leith though.

WouldBeGood · 16/12/2021 21:31

I really rate it

That's interesting! Without wanting to join the MN clique, there definitely seems to be a class divide in who is cancelling, and who going ahead. Bad news for ballets, operas and Michelin starred restaurants. Good news for wetherspoons and nandos Xmas Blush

I'm common as muck, and not cancelling, so I prove my theory.

WouldBeGood · 16/12/2021 21:49

🤣 @ResilienceWanker I think you have a point!

I’m common as muck beneath my middle middle class upbringing, much to my father’s disappointment 😃

ecceromani · 16/12/2021 21:59

There may also be age divide @ResilienceWanker
My teenagers love Nando's and the student one drinks in Spoons

ResilienceWanker · 16/12/2021 22:11

Yeah, age would work too. But all old people are dead posh, so it's basically the same thing Xmas Grin

WouldBeGood · 16/12/2021 22:12

🤣

I’m old

ssd · 16/12/2021 22:47

But not posh, just classy Wink

WouldBeGood · 16/12/2021 23:11

A friend who is a primary school teacher has been told to prepare for online learning! 😢

Another who is a paramedic has been told they have to now test daily!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 17/12/2021 07:38

Don't know about availability @rookiemere but Timberyard, Noto, Fhior. At the not so £ end Rollo and the ground floor cafe at Lady Libertine both nice for lunch.

We are sadly in the cancelling almost everything camp. But only because we've got a clinically vulnerable close relative coming for Christmas dinner and don't want to risk that. I'm gutted though, we had loads of lovely things planned over the next week.

Ha, this is me too. I also have a special contact tracing phone number.
rookiemere · 17/12/2021 07:42

Thanks @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo I'll have a look, @runningpink nooooo to the schools notification. I hope it's just a precautionary measure. Boris may be a bumbling unelectable buffoon, but at least he understands the importance of getting schools reopened as quickly as possible. This year it could be my DSs exam results sacrificed on the alter of - let's go slowly and cautiously, unless it's football of course, really important that some grown men see a ball being kicked about.
