The railing never ends.

No resilience wankery, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides.

Where I teach we haven't and are preparing for 150 pupils in the Games Hall for prelims on 10th Jan .

Iwantthesummersun · 17/12/2021 07:49

I’m a primary teacher too and honestly, 100%, I haven't been told to prepare to go online. In many respects we have been told this for months and months. Kids must have log ins etc but no one has said that I need to be ready for January. I wonder if at this point it’s more a ‘make sure they’re ready just in case’ rather than it actually happening.

Direwolfwrangler · 17/12/2021 08:03

Popping in to rail at the new regulations for shops. Buried in the guidance is a suggestion that access to lifts is restricted to only those with disabilities, and for essential purposes. So what are parents with prams meant to do?! Lots of clothes shops put the kids section upstairs. Not to mention the cafes. I might not be shopping for essential reasons but I’m not sure why I should be prevented from browsing just because I have a small baby!

ssd · 17/12/2021 08:10

I dont think any shop will stop people with prams getting into lifts. Railing against that is really daft. Prams cant go on escalators or get up and down flights of stairs so of course they go in lifts. We vould find fault in every single bit of legislation out there if we try hard enough . The shop I'm in prioritises wheelchairs and prams for the lifts. And as a retail worker, i welcome the new restrictions. Anyone coming into a busy city centre shop now might think twice before getting in the staffs face. People dont think and dome dont care. So thank god us shop workers might be kept a bit safer.

Direwolfwrangler · 17/12/2021 08:12

Ah ok, I didn’t realise I wasn’t allowed an opinion on what to rail against.

ElephantOfRisk · 17/12/2021 08:29

It's all so stupid. What's wrong with just asking for a sign saying that lifts are restricted to x people and should be prioritised for those who need them?

The vast majority of people will not be gits. Having it as a rule will not stop gits being gits anyway.

Given that DC especially small ones will be the ones growing out of there clothes the quickest then surely their clothing is always going to be an essential but not big ticket sale item for stores so hence its upstairs etc.

All this shite is doing my head in and I'm getting sick of the polarisation and general wankery, I think I might give everything social media wise a bit of a back seat for a while.

I hear you. I would like a fairytale sleep until spring when hopefully sanity and common sense has returned.

mibbelucieachwell · 17/12/2021 08:57

@ElephantOfRisk

"Polarisation and general wankery". Grin

That's it in a nutshell. I'm too prudish to use the w word so I'm going to refer to 'P and GW' . Eg, NS, queen of P and GW. It's a tiny consolation in these ridiculous times. Thank you,

ResilienceWanker · 17/12/2021 09:02

Ahhhh, hibernation sounds really good right now.

I tend not to use lifts 'cos they're unnatural (big box going up and down a shaft... it's the devil's work, that. Just asking for trouble) but isn't there usually a kind of informal lift etiquette amongst people waiting? So people in wheelchairs, with prams or with loads of big heavy packages get to go in first, and everyone else waits til they can squish in if it's not essential they use the lift. Are the SG now telling us how to be polite and reasonable members of society? Apparently so, from how ssd says people have been behaving. Xmas Sad Why are we such wankers, hey?

I've got my fingers crossed the online learning is just a precaution... if there's a lot of isolation in a class for example, or if individual children have to be sent work at home, they have the ability to upload it/ speak to the teacher and so on. Lucky we've all got those laptops we were promised in May if we voted in the SNP again, isn't it!

However, I am a bit worried at the Welsh restrictions, who are delaying the return of schools in January (only for 2 days on the face of it, to give teachers time to prepare for online stuff if needed, but who knows where that will lead). And they're closing nightclubs from boxing day (or the day after?). It is feeling a bit teetering on the edge of last year...

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 17/12/2021 09:21

I'm struggling to understand the logic of Wales' plan to shut nightclubs and impose legal restrictions on shops etc. in 10 days time, after the Christmas rush and everyone's celebrations. Given that omicron is taking off now the wave will definitely be in full swing by then (so tinkering will do fuck all at that point), and may even be peaking if it really is a short, sharp, intense wave as some are predicting based on the dynamics we've seen so far. That plan really just seems designed to maximise damage all round 🤷‍♀️

WouldBeGood · 17/12/2021 09:28

@Direwolfwrangler I hear you with that. It’s just an added stress to the already stressful shopping with wee ones! I get worried that someone will nip at me, even if I know rationally it’s a stupid rule!

Lord, hadn’t realised Wales was messing with school start date. Bugger.

Yes, I was thinking the other day that IF hospitality needed to close (which it doesn't IMO, but I'm not the SG) then January is probably the best possible time to do it, given that's a quieter time of year usually for them.

But just waiting 'til then for that reason is pointless. If what the pessimists are saying comes to pass, we will all be ill/ in hospital/ dead by then, and they'll have closed anyway through lack of staff and lack of customers. And if not, and the wave burns itself out quickly, it will have no impact, or maybe delay the peak by a few weeks. And I'd hope some places would be able to pick up a few late celebrations from people who have cancelled this month! In any case, if we're all boosted by January it should be peak time to socialise, with all our lovely antibodies knocking around inside us Xmas Wink

ecceromani · 17/12/2021 10:08

Yes bonkers!
I thought the plan of shutting nightclubs was so young people wouldn't be going to them in the run up to Christmas and then seeing granny a few days later.
Talk about closing the stable door after the horse has boltedConfused

Rail about what you like but as a shop worker I'll have my say too.
WouldBeGood · 17/12/2021 12:10

Everyone can rail, no judgement here.

except in the case of resilience wankery, but not @ResilienceWanker* 😃

Why would people who can use the escalators use the lift in the first place lifts are slower.

mibbelucieachwell · 17/12/2021 13:11

Ahhh. Just watched a live stream of a funeral. It was led by someone standing in for the minister, who's getting a PCR test. Reminder to wear masks throughout and that the person leading it was unable to shake hands.

The silver lining at least is that people who can't attend a funeral, for whatever reason can watch it remotely. It's significantly better than nothing.

frasersmummy · 17/12/2021 13:30

so we are getting another update today.. will we get more restrictions ?
I think we will.. I think she will cancel all large events and limit pubs and restaurants to 3 households
question.. why when boris makes a change do parliament need to vote on it but when the Nicola makes changes our parliament dont vote

frasersmummy · 17/12/2021 13:37

sorry I seem I am behind the times .. apologies but my question re parliament still stands

2022HereWeCome · 17/12/2021 13:44

Raging because the FM is using emotive language again - 'tsunami of cases starting to hit'.

I am beginning to get seriously annoyed again. Why is it acceptable for me to stand in line with complete strangers for hours for a booster yet I should not be queuing for Edinburgh's big wheel and staying the fuck at home.

During the whole pandemic the most unsafe I felt was queuing for a mobile PCR test for 2 hours. And I had booked an appointment slot - they just ended up running 1.5 hours late! Hence my reluctance to queue for a booster

Lockdownbear · 17/12/2021 14:11

@mibbelucieachwell hope your OK. Sending hugs.
I've 'attended' a couple of online funeral bazaar experiences.
I feel when you go to a funeral of someone your presence is appreciated by the family and your showing them you care about the deceased and showing support for those left behind.
But I felt I was intruding rather than supporting at online funerals.

mibbelucieachwell · 17/12/2021 14:20

Thank you @Lockdownbear . I didn't realise that the congregation would be visible. Yes, the viewer is invisibly watching from the back (assuming this is how funerals are normally filmed in these circumstances).

NearlyBoosted · 17/12/2021 14:47

As my name says I'm counting down to a booster appointment booked a wee while ago before this latest drama.
Small rail (though I understand the reasoning) I think I won't be getting the flu jag done at the same time now.
Big rail : why is the FM terrifying us so much that for example I am now wondering about hanging in a long queue. Do I really want to be there right now? It was a while waiting in the hall last time and I thought then, before Omicron, it was a risky situation.
