I'm in the car reading a few threads where folks are fed up with the misery and fighting so thought I'd start a new thread. Not for politics or covid or fighting , just general stuff 🙂

I've had a nice day, off work on hols so we took a wee drive down to Peebles and had lunch, bought a few pies from lovely butcher and now heading home.

Thanks. I was trying to find it in PlayStore. That explains it!

ssd · 07/11/2021 11:13

@prettybird, if you are bored staying in (or rather when you are bored staying in) i can recommend Spiral on tv. Probably get it on catch up or somewhere.

dementedpixie · 07/11/2021 11:14

I tried it the first day it came put and couldn't get it to work. Tried a few days later using my passport and got there in the end. When it scans your face you look like a haggard gremlin though Grin.

RaraRachael · 07/11/2021 16:15

LOL. Not looking forward to having to add a photo for two reasons -
I'll look awful and this technology may be beyond me Grin

prettybird · 07/11/2021 16:24

The photo doesn't stay on the app - it just confirms it's you by matching the photo ID and the "real" you, by doing a biometric verification with lots of strange lines. So you don't need to worry about having to look at a crap picture Wink

GrouchyKiwi · 07/11/2021 17:29

Hope you're feeling OK prettybird. How long do you have to isolate for these days?

Have just had to tell MIL that she's not my children's parent so she doesn't get to overrule our decisions. Tuesday is freedom day.

PIL have taken DH and children out to tea, though, so that is good. I am feeling a bit rubbish so stayed behind and am enjoying some beautiful silence, with just the ticking of the clock to keep me company. (And the dog, but she's sulking because DH left without her so isn't in the room with me.)

Finally: the rugby was tense today. Grin

There isn't a photo on the app; it just uses the photo ID and your face to verify its you. All it has is a QR code and your name
titsintiers · 08/11/2021 06:38

What a shame @prettybird I hope your isolation goes quickly.

Back from Italy, it was amazing. If you're having doubts about travelling just do it, it was pretty straightforward

Scottishskifun · 08/11/2021 07:40

@titsintiers glad to hear you had a good time I definitely found the same travelling once I joined the Facebook group

prettybird · 08/11/2021 09:15

The rugby was indeed tense but a good result! Smile

My isolation period is up until Friday - ten days from the onset of symptoms (which fortunately in my case were quite clear) even though I only tested on Thursday. I was apparently infectious from Monday.

Key thing I want to shout from the rooftops is that symptoms for the double-vaccinated are not necessarily what NHS Inform is saying are the main symptoms: more like a bad cold, with lots of sneezing. I've not lost my sense of taste of smell and I only had a temperature that I was aware of for a brief period. Here's what the Zoe app suggests are the main symptoms in the double-vaccinated: sneezing in particular seems to be a symptom for the double vaccinated. https://covid.joinzoe.com/post/new-top-5-covid-symptoms

I had initially just thought that I had another bad cold - I felt worse a few weeks ago when the "mega-cold" was doing the rounds (and I did multiple LFTs then).

WouldBeGood · 08/11/2021 09:17

I do find it strange @prettybird that the guidance hasn’t been updated: I was looking and would have had to lie to get DS a PCR when he was ill (it was just The Cold)

ssd · 08/11/2021 17:35

Another dreich day here. Ive mostly cooked and sat in. Its hard to motivate yourself to do anything when its wet and blowing a gale outside. The leaves are nearly off all the trees near me. I feel i should hunker in, but i cant settle. I think ive spent enough time indoors this last year and a bit. I was loving summer getting out and about but in winter the only way to get out costs money and we're a bit skint just now.
I dont know where I'm at these days. I felt so content last year when i was furloughed, i knew how to keep safe and just went walks in the local area as everything was shut anyway and we couldn't go far. Now its all open but there's nowhere i want to go. Or nowhere i can afford to be more accurate. I certainly dont want lockdown again and im sure we wont see that again. I just wish i could find some peace of mind. The trains are busy and Glasgow is a bit of a mess now with places and shops closed. I went into princes Square last week, it used to be bustling and loads of atmosphere. At 5pm on Friday it was dead and lots of places closed. Pretty awful.

WouldBeGood · 08/11/2021 17:52

@ssd I know what you mean about finding it hard to chill. I get antsy just being in even if I can’t really bothered to go out.

dementedpixie · 08/11/2021 17:54

I went a bit crazy and did 3 classes at the sports centre today - balance, attack and pump.

Haven't accomplished much else tbh

ssd · 08/11/2021 18:51

Its weird isnt it @WouldBeGood. Im finding it hard to get the contentment i had before. Everything just seems off.
@dementedpixie, well done on doing all that. I'm going swimming tomorrow. Need to move myself.

Im in silverburn just now. Its almost deserted. I mean, xmas isnt that far away. But there's no buzz. I used to love a wander round the shops, but theres no joy in it now. The only thing i enjoy is getting out in nature. I could live in a wee highland croft now, with sheep to keep me busy.

ssd · 08/11/2021 18:54

This is reminding me of last year, before lockdown. The store im in in town was counting people in and out due to restrictions. When i looked out ,there was no one there. This was weeks before Xmas. It felt like armageddon. This feels similar.
I need to get out somewhere busy and buzzing, remind myself what normality is.

ssd · 08/11/2021 18:56

I dont care about masks or one way systems. I care about atmosphere and feeling part of life. The shops don't feel like that now. I guess its all changing.

WouldBeGood · 08/11/2021 19:05

I keep fantasising about building a little eco bothy in the hills for me, Ds and tiny dog @ssd

@dementedpixie that’s seriously impressive!

Haudyourwheesht · 08/11/2021 19:35

I've done a lot of my shopping online this year, due to the DC getting to the age where you can't just wheech something in the basket and hope they don't notice. I've been looking forward to a wee trip round the shops and lunch with my mum though in a few weeks, so hope it doesn't disappoint

ssd · 08/11/2021 21:13

It depends what your looking for @Haudyourwheesht. I've worked in retail for years and really notice the difference in the town and the shops. Its sad.

titsintiers · 09/11/2021 08:56

I agree walking about the city centre is so depressing. It's such a shame for all the employees and clients of the many places that have disappeared.

ssd · 09/11/2021 09:05

Im finding theres nowhere for wee older working class women to go now. I get women in my shop asking if we have such and such and we do, but its the expensive version of it.
There's nowhere like bhs, watt bros or similar left. Even Debenhams was more mid price range. Frasers and john Lewis are too expensive and marks doesnt have a broad range.
My mil used to like a wander round these shops and a cuppa in the cafe with a scone. Not £2.95 cappuccino and £3.95 slice of cake. And she wouldn't have like costa etc. She wanted a cup of tea and a scone.
Theres a whole section of society cut off now.

Scottishskifun · 09/11/2021 09:23

I do the majority of my shopping online with the exception of jeans and bras but I have never enjoyed shopping and Christmas shopping fills me with dread!

DH was gutted when BHS went (despite being late 20s at the time!) as he has rugby player legs but not a huge waist so struggles to find smart trousers that fit but BHS always had the right cut!

ssd · 09/11/2021 15:03

Yes they had lots of different trouser cuts, also a good selection of school uniform and bridesmaids dresses etc. We have people pulling their hair out trying to get school uniform stuff now.

ssd · 09/11/2021 20:40

Ahhhh. I must be getting very calm and collected in my old age. Ive just written an abrupt response to a poster I'd consider uninformed Wink. Nothing to do with covid or politics or similar. Something totally different.

And instead of clicking post, I backspaced and deleted it all!

Im feeling very grown up and virtuous Grin
