I'm in the car reading a few threads where folks are fed up with the misery and fighting so thought I'd start a new thread. Not for politics or covid or fighting , just general stuff 🙂

I've had a nice day, off work on hols so we took a wee drive down to Peebles and had lunch, bought a few pies from lovely butcher and now heading home.

Shall we agree not to argue about royalty?

ssd · 26/10/2021 22:48

Yes @WouldBeGood.

Its wild out there, the winds blowing a gale. But its still mild, i turned my heating off earlier. The weather is definitely odd now, nearly December and its mild.

WouldBeGood · 26/10/2021 22:51

It is weird @ssd! No heating on despite the mad gale and rain. Fortunately my bedroom is on the side of the house away from the weather!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 26/10/2021 22:56

Thermostat got turned down here too. It seems strange that it's blowing a gale outside, yet it's still mild.

It should be boots season but it doesn't feel cold enough!

I've been doing Pilates for 22 years now Smile. Can date it precisely as I started just before I fell pregnant with ds Grin. First out in Killearn/Balfron (used to go with my mum and would pick her up from their home near Milngavie) and then my instructor started classes in Otago St. She went on line during Covid and has decided to stay on-line. She is 62 now so why should she traipse in from Fintry for the class when she can do it from her front room? Wink

I might book a 1:1 every couple of months though, as she has Pilates equipment in the Hub in Fintry. Or a few of us might sort out a wee one-off class.

The Zoom class was today and then just as importantly, the Zoom "coffee" afterwards with the wee group of us who used to be in her Tuesday Otago St class.

I love doing Pilates. I still get epiphanies when I subtly change a position and realise, "Oh, so that's what it's supposed to feel like" Wink and we all say, when complaining about finding certain exercise difficult/bodies refusing to comply Blush - imagine what we'd be like if we didn't do it Grin

Picked these flowers from the garden just last week! ShockThanks Smile

Wow, those are gorgeous @prettybird

sartorius · 26/10/2021 23:20

Wow they're gorgeous @prettybird
My flowers in garden are finished now.

prettybird · 26/10/2021 23:35

The benefit of having a walled garden in the city with its added heat Grin

I have five raised beds that I rotate and one of them is given over to "cutting flowers". (there are actually six raised beds but one is asparagus so is not part of the rotation).

prettybird · 26/10/2021 23:38

One of our cats has just come in. It must be raining as he is soaked Shock and is now expecting me to dry him by stroking him Hmm

They're weird: they like to go out when it's wetConfused

sartorius · 26/10/2021 23:45

I like the idea of a bed just for cutting flowersThanks
Think I'll give that a go next year.
I have daffodils and sweet peas for cutting but that's all really.

prettybird · 27/10/2021 00:10

My sweet peas (also in that bed) were absolutely brilliant this year. I've had bunch after bunch this week but they're now nearly over. Two packets of seeds from Lidl costing the sum total of 50p Shock

These are some of the last ones, picked at the weekend.

In spring I plant loads of tulips in the bed - in theory they're for cutting but I never do as they're such a welcome dash of colour after the winter months.

I'm rubbish at growing things, don't have a garden and even if I did I'm petrified of slugs.
Dd has cactii (is that how its written?), Venus fly traps and as seen in the photo a giant tomato plant.
I'm off up to visit her later, I have a pumpkin each for them.
We're both big kids so I told her I picked them from a pumpkin patch, except I bought them from Sainsburys, shoved them in a hedge and took a photo.
Ill found out today if she believes me but my friend really thought I had picked them from the pic I sent her!Grin

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 27/10/2021 07:47

Wow that is a giant tomatoes plant!! I would love to have something like that.

sartorius · 27/10/2021 07:51

Haha love it @ISpyCobraKai
Update us whether she believes you!

Love the smell of sweet peas in the house but mine are over by end of august. They get so short stemmed as summer goes on.
@prettybird you are a woman of many talentsSmile

GrouchyKiwi · 27/10/2021 08:58

Beautiful flowers prettybird.

My garden was rubbish this year. I didn't have the energy to deal with it so it was mostly weeds. And lots of baby plum trees. I didn't know they sent up suckers; I might have to get rid of the trees.

ssd · 27/10/2021 09:07

Om so jealous of you green fingered folks, i can't grow a thing. My mum was a brilliant gardner but unfortunately i didn't pick anything up from her. I left home at 18, when you are still stompy and grumpy and dont listen to your parents...now they aren't here and theres so much id like to learn. I know i could buy a book but i want my mum teaching me

ssd · 27/10/2021 09:29

Im in Glasgow city centre its 15 degrees Shock

ISpyCobraKai · 27/10/2021 09:46

Same here ssd and not too wet currently.

Haudyourwheesht · 27/10/2021 11:53

These are lovely @prettybird . We have had a dreadful year, garden wise. We normally have quite a good haul of fruit, veg and flowers but this year has been a disaster. I think it may be the slugs. Even my hydrangea has given up the ghost.

Scottishskifun · 27/10/2021 13:07

We are accidental gardeners we literally do nothing other than cut the grass and have weed fabric around large plants.

But we always get a glut of fruit, have 2 beautiful rose bushes along with a lovely wild flower bed (which is true wild flowers off the fields). 😂 My dad always asks how we manage it.......I think it's just good soil which is well hydrated due to underground springs in the area!

Groovee · 27/10/2021 13:31

I'm on a much needed day off and I only went back on Monday 🤣

My extra wallpaper should be here today. The fireplace is fully back. Have ordered flooring samples.

Need to get paper for DS's birthday and a couple of cards for others.

BingBongToTheMoon · 27/10/2021 14:03

See they’ve scrapped the Christmas market in George Square……because of this COP thing. Sounds a bit dubious to me. COVID, I could see…
The one at St Enoch is still going ahead though.
We were going to take our DD up on the train, but I don’t think we’ll bother this year.

WouldBeGood · 27/10/2021 14:42

Do we think they’ll reimpose restrictions after COP26?

ssd · 27/10/2021 15:49

They might if numbers go up. But if all the travel restrictions happen, people might not be able to mix so it might not be too bad. Cancelling George sq seems a bit extreme.
