What degrading message does this send to women? Feeling slightly sick.......😢

@Aurea dear god.

I can’t even think of anything else to say

How far does it need to go before the pendulum swings the other way?

WouldBeGood · 19/10/2021 20:30

I think peak trans is approaching. Normal people just think it’s nuts and the more they know the better

ResilienceWanker · 19/10/2021 20:32

Now, I know I do have a cervix (though not much else about it, tbh, other than it's the entrance to the womb...) but if I wasn't a native speaker, or didn't have much understanding of my "bits", I have to say, I wouldn't automatically know wtf they were talking about. It sounds more like a small furry creature, like a Guinea pig or something to me, than an anatomical feature.

Also, not being flippant, but what actually is wrong with "woman" there? Who other than women have a cervix (or even womb would be better? At least that's a more recognisable word)? I know some people may not "identify as" women, but I definitely don't identify as "someone with a cervix" yet still know that advert would apply to me!

sartorius · 19/10/2021 20:48

I thought that too @ResilienceWanker
This is going to exclude some people who are not well educated about their bodies and what the various bits are called, or have limited English.
But I think they might recognise they are a woman

All messages for healthcare has to be passed for readability and must be easily understood by anyone

WouldBeGood · 19/10/2021 20:53

Yes I hadn’t even thought of that, but loads of people won’t know.

Dear god

I wouldn't be surprised if the teaching unions are something to do with the continuing masks. A lot of teachers (not me!) are still insisting they are necessary.

Why couldn't they just say women and say at the bottom that it also applies to people who may not identify as women but still have a cervix?

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 19/10/2021 21:04

Is the word 'women' now officially a dirty word then, even in areas that pertain exclusively to women's health? I can imagine there are plenty of women who know they're women but aren't necessarily familiar with the word 'cervix' (as above, non-native speakers or those less educated). This unnecessary virtue signalling might well mean they're excluded. I also imagine any trans-men who have a cervix will know more than the average person about their anatomy, so I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't realise they need a screen if the referral letter talks about 'women'.

ElephantOfRisk · 19/10/2021 21:11

Agreed. The trans community will be more than aware of their anatomy and what they have, and women of any background who might not be as aware of the names for things will be likely to know they are women.

But then we've seen what scot gov put out as a health message when they got Janey whatsherface involved.

Health messages need to be clear and address the issue and be suitable for the audience.

@Coquohvan may I pick your brains? Which is the official French Covid app to which I can add my vaxx status??

And are over fifties getting free flu jabs in Scotland or is that just England still?

NHS scotland website says it does apply yes. I am in a category for flu jab but yet to hear anything this year yet though, DS has his this week.
ElephantOfRisk · 20/10/2021 00:18

over 50s are supposed to get free flu jags. I'm 55 and never been offered one. My DSis (different health board) is 62 and never been offered one. I'm sure if I asked I might be able to get one but no idea to be fair.

Frustrating conversation on Radio Scotland phone in about mask wearing in schools.

Deepti saying there are no harms from mask wearing. Should be extended to primary schools.

Quoting one study of mask wearing in schools. But admitting that it's hard to control for all the variables. And also saying that cloth masks are less effective than surgical and more fitted masks.

I wish the adults and unions clamouring for continued mask wearing would clamour for improved ventilation instead.

Parent saying how her child sometimes can't hear and as the room gets increasingly stuffy sometimes feels lightheaded wearing a mask. But sure no harms from mask wearing according to Deepti. Angry

mibbelucieachwell · 20/10/2021 10:04

Ahh Deepti asking for improved ventilation and more contact tracing in schools.

Saying that single measures have limited impact when case numbers are high.

But also saying in answer to KA's Q about comparing case rates in Scottish and English schools (no mask wearing in the latter from May) that English school case numbers went up in July . But there were other things happening too eg EUFA.

She reminds me of other specialists who prioritise their own cause over everything else.

rookiemere · 20/10/2021 10:56

@mibbelucieachwell if mask wearing was such a splendid preventative, then the senior school age numbers wouldn't have rocketed when they went back to school. I think they really need to give up on pushing masks now, unless they were prepared to stipulate that they must be proper medical grade masks, they make little difference as far as I can tell.

Lockdownbear · 20/10/2021 12:24

Deepti saying there are no harms from mask wearing. Should be extended to primary schools

What a fucking idiot - can she have one surgercially stitched to her face

LOs need to hear clearly, I'm sure masks in nursery has affected my LOs speech which is slowly improving.

But I don't believe for a second that masks aren't affecting kids in school. I firmly believe we are at the stage kids will be making life choices based on masks, ie choosing subjects like PE so they get an hour without or leaving for college as they can't stand them.

mapleleavesreturn · 20/10/2021 12:39

Clearly merely a correlation that SLT referrals are through the roof, that can't be the masks eh?

WouldBeGood · 20/10/2021 12:58

Deepti is mental.

Deepti represents the lunatic fringe of iSAGE, dedicated to reducing COVID cases no matter the cost. She spends her time trashing any research that doesn't support her view (while ignoring flaws in data that does), blocking people who disagree with her, and instigating Twitter pile-ons. She doesn't accept that restrictions have any significant downsides, and dismisses research that says they do as 'deeply flawed' for one reason or another. She doesn't think that studies into long COVID need controls (following data showing that incidence of long-COVID data associated symptoms were similar whether you'd actually had COVID or not in certain age groups). She was also one of the key authors of the Lancet opinion piece predicting Armageddon after England's freedom day and branding it a 'dangerously immoral experiment' (which of course was shown to be spectacularly wrong), wherein the authors declined to discuss any of the rationale around exit waves etc.

She isn't really taken seriously by the scientific establishment and for pretty good reason. I sometimes look in to see what her latest Twitter rant is, and she's most definitely gone off the rails. It is accepted by virtually all serious scientists and even the Scottish Government that masks cause harm to education, which is why they were only supposed to be in place for as long as necessary and not a minute more. To suggest putting them on Primary school children who are just learning to read is outrageous.

Are secondary children wearing masks when sitting in class though? I thought they weren't.
