I agree we should be helping with the programme in poorer countries too. But tbh I don't think it's really an either/or sum - us deciding not to go ahead with kids wouldn't mean we could send those doses to Africa instead! The infrastructure, PPE/ equipment availability, healthcare systems etc are so different, there needs to be a totally separate programme set up to address these in each country - not just the physical vaccine, or even the money we would have otherwise spent on vaccines which would be a drop in the ocean. Though I agree it's not a good look that rich countries are having this debate over marginal benefit, whereas many countries still have 70+ yo dying without vaccine.
I would really like some idea where Scotland is going with all this too... My feeling is that individuals and businesses will just get less and less "compliant" over the winter, when it's obvious that we are so out of step with the rest of the UK with minimal difference in outcome - and then things like masks and passports and whatnot will be formally dropped in spring. Though who knows. Maybe NSs announcement today will be "hey, it's all off folks... You can all go round bare faced, licking people like its 2019". Though even then I think our local shop will still keep its sodding one way arrows on the floor.
