It's not a case that the vaccination stops working at 6 months though it still protects against serious illness it's the fact that after 6 months the protection from contracting covid reduces

WouldBeGood · 10/09/2021 17:00

Cases down 16% in England today…

The latest ZOE video talks about the Scottish 'problem' this week. Tim Spector openly admiting that he was wrong when he predicted a surge in England, and being honest that he doesn't understand why Scotland is having such a problem. I think he, like many commentators tbf, saw the spike in Scotland and assumed the same would happen in England, but thus far it doesn't seem to be the case (in the test data or their symptom data). It seems they may be a specific issue in Scotland, which I do think probably has its roots in our previous pursuit of zero COVID and consequent (probable) lower natural immunity, as we've discussed.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 10/09/2021 17:55

The last time the actual stats on that were posted though, I don't think they were all that different were they?

tiredoftiers · 10/09/2021 18:07

Restrictions too tight for too long. Downtrodden population, scunnered= lower immune system= higher rate of infections.

mapleleavesreturn · 10/09/2021 18:11

Although the serious illness protection of the vaccine is of questionable duration - didn't Israel move to boosters as their hospitalisation rate went up?
So hard to know what to do these days.

Overall Antibody levels are similar now, as are vaccination rates, but I’m not aware of any data on natural immunity (I.e not from vaccine). That’s where I suspect the difference may lie.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 10/09/2021 19:08

Ahh ok Smile

Another area of our lives the Scot Gov want to be a part of. Does anyone think, like with minimum pricing alcohol, there'll be a ban or heavy tax on high calorie foods?

Lockdownbear · 10/09/2021 19:39

It just makes you want to run away. How to make things as difficult as possible for small restaurants.

And they are banging on about Indyref2. Just makes me sick.

ElephantOfRisk · 10/09/2021 19:53

What ever happened to choice and education?

If people don't understand that there are more calories in a sausage roll or nuggets and chips than there are in a plain salad then that's the problem that needs dealt with. Most people don't eat out every night so if you want to police eating then maybe think about the other 364 nights of the year.

When eating out people might want to have a less than healthy choice because, you know, it's a rare occasion and they might eat healthily at home for the rest of the year and just bloody fancy lasagna and chips and garlic bread all at once!

SunnyDayOut · 10/09/2021 19:58

I would be curious to know if the difference between Scotland and England lies in natural immunity as well, but also bear in mind that mortality and morbidity rates in Scotland have long been the worst in Europe. It is multiple factors including deprivation.

@Haudyourwheesht, oh yes and with custard or ice-cream.

ElephantOfRisk · 10/09/2021 21:22

@WouldBeGood which specific issue? Or just overall?

LizzieMacQueen · 10/09/2021 21:47

They are basically putting us on a diet.

Monitoring and evaluation

FSS will lead the overall monitoring and evaluation of the impact of the suite of the measures set out in this plan. Longer term, this will include calorie reduction as the key indicator of success.

Future actions will be informed by the outcome of the monitoring and evaluation framework and the work to explore other levers set out above.

tiredoftiers · 10/09/2021 21:53

Well good luck to them. Most of my meals for the past 18months have been lovingly prepared by me, hasn’t stopped the weight gain. Healthy in theory but I eat too bloody much.
Does this mean when in a restaurant the answer is just going to be to order two puddings?

ElephantOfRisk · 10/09/2021 21:57

I'm okay with them seeking to improve the quality of diet of the population in order to improve health but this is arse about tit.

They could provide decent education about healthy diet, more support for families to ensure that they can cook and have the facility and income to make healthy meals. And I'm sure many other positive things, But it's the food people are having at home that is a much bigger impact than what folks eat when out.

Maybe you'll not be allowed to have 2 puddings?

We've already had alcohol restricted during restrictions, no alcohol on trains, not much of an extra step to have pubs and restaurants restrict the number of calories been ordered per person.

tiredoftiers · 10/09/2021 22:01

After the rubbish that my child received as part of their free school meal last year, I can not believe that they are choosing this way to encourage healthy eating.
The meals have improved this year but still aren’t quite there yet.

WouldBeGood · 10/09/2021 22:09
