Covid is raging through schools at the minute - I hope it's a sign we'll have a good winter, as that's 6 months immunity in the bag. I'm a diehard optimist though!

I've had yet another day not working due to dc2 being still sick this time with migraine from too much excitement. Cheers!

Groovee · 06/09/2021 17:52

It's chickenpox and norovirus for us 😳.

ResilienceWanker · 06/09/2021 18:06

Oh no! Sorry to hear of all the illnesses. Sad We got another warn and inform letter today - for all the classes in DSs year group, and a couple of others in the school Shock . They are the Plague Year still. And yes, I'm hoping that means that they all have good immunity so the rest of the year is less disrupted.

ssd · 06/09/2021 18:25

Sorry to everyone not feeling well Flowers

Im railing against the bastard news. Its all utter doom and gloom..Afghanistan, climate change, covid figures, wee animals cant get treatment cos of covid, beautiful young woman died of cancer, sex workers being exploited, everyone else too fat, smokes too much, drinks too much....i mean FFS why dont we all fucking shoot ourselves right now and be done with it Angry

They need to stop this. We all feel shite enough

Whenisthisgoingtoend · 06/09/2021 19:03

That will be precisely to accommodate DHs colleague who is currently in Spain and has more jam than Saninsburys.
Whenisthisgoingtoend · 06/09/2021 19:21

Oh god yes bad habits crept in. I was like most put on weight during first lockdown.
Missed swimming gym and classes that spurs you on when others are there.

I switched to a Mediterranean diet mostly, watching carb intake. Not cut out totally love pasta too much maybe once a week now. Feel less bloated without so much carbs. Drinking more water as was bad for not hydrating enough.
In the gym 4 days a week walking a bit faster than my usual stroll with ddog.
Fair weather cyclists on a nice day gets the heart rate up.
This week I’m back to pre lockdown weight.
Try not to eat passed 8pm well maybe a biscuit with my bedtime cuppa 😀

ssd · 06/09/2021 19:23

Whats changed? I don't keep up with the foreign holidays stuff cos I'm struggling to afford a night in Fife these days, so it goes over my head..

Whenisthisgoingtoend · 06/09/2021 19:23

@ElephantOfRisk jammy for him eh.
Crept it in by stealth or I’ve just missed it.

Whenisthisgoingtoend · 06/09/2021 19:26

@ssd previously you had to pay £68 was £88 for a return day 2 PCR test. England were from£20 upwards. We could only use one company that SG approved off. Now it’s changed to be the same as rUK.

Scottishskifun · 06/09/2021 19:30

That is a big u turn on the return tests and using other companies!

Got a feeling its to do with the competition market authority investigation into testing though rather than willingness from NS!
Will make a big difference to cost though means you can get one ofthe £40 test so over £100 saving if a family of 4 who need tests or can use the Tui £20 deal for double vaccinated people!

Lidlfix · 06/09/2021 19:37

Wow! Might just go for our city break in Spain in October now . We were considering changing to a UK destination as we grudged paying as much for the tests as our flights. Much as I have enjoyed my Highlands and England trips I would love to get sip Rioja in a square people watching. Scotland will probably be on their red list though.

Lockdownbear · 06/09/2021 19:44

@Remoteso hope DD is better soon.

Covid seems to be rampant in my boys primary too. TBH I think it's only a matter of time before one of mine bring it home.

Am I the only person questioning how much is being spent on 'just in case' covid test vs the benefit of them, now that all adults are vaccinated, and even household members don't need to isolate?

WouldBeGood · 06/09/2021 19:54

You are not the only one questioning that, @Lockdownbear. Time this stopped

We’ve got Greece this month so glad about this.
Either way if CMA has forced her to u-turn good for us and the travel industry.
There is plenty approved testers ranging from £20 if not going with TUI.

WouldBeGood · 06/09/2021 19:57

The wall to wall bad news is pretty overwhelming @ssd. I’ve just created a narrow little life where I don’t do much and just stick in my own little routine

runningpink · 06/09/2021 19:57

Heard today that there was over 70 kids off school one day last week due to having or testing for covid!
And five teachers from same school are off now as well!

Hope all the illnesses pass soon for everyone

Whenisthisgoingtoend · 06/09/2021 19:58

Thanks @WouldBeGood took a while recommend the med diet.

StarryEyeSurprise · 06/09/2021 19:59

Our neighbouring school had 7 teachers and 6 support staff off ill. It's an absolute nightmare at the moment for teachers.

Us too except we are flying from England as when we booked there was a huge price difference! I need to go back through the UK list as I looked at some of the ones put on the £20 and the first 3 then shot up to £100! But I haven't looked again since the CMA and govt kicked a load off!
runningpink · 06/09/2021 20:03

I have made a separate thread for the fitness/weight loss chat so we can keep this chat free for railing!

Jeez @StarryEyeSurprise Schools are going to struggle to stay open at this rate because they'll run out of staffConfused
Whenisthisgoingtoend · 06/09/2021 20:10

@Scottishskifun join FB group Covid 19 Travel test help & advice group.
Really informative for travel tests good & bad.
@runningpink will check it out sorry didn’t know you did.

StarryEyeSurprise · 06/09/2021 20:12

I know. I don't think this is sustainable - we're only 3 weeks in!
