Its just an excuse for violence.

ssd · 11/07/2021 22:52

Most of them probably dont even care about the football , they just want a fight

Lockdownbear · 11/07/2021 23:00

That is the very sad truth and was pointed out to me in the 1980s. Thugs use football as a stage. It's society's problem not a football problem. Football clubs etc can only do so much to prevent it.
StarryEyeSurprise · 11/07/2021 23:02

My heart was breaking reading about the Danish women who spoke about her son and husband being attacked after the last game. She was saying, "He's only 9" but her boy still had to run away whilst they battered his dad. Violence towards innocent people like that and the videos I saw tonight make me so anxious as a parent.

WouldBeGood · 11/07/2021 23:03

Oh ffs. It’s a football match, let’s quit the histrionics.

ssd · 11/07/2021 23:21

But football goes through the fans blood, dh has green blood I'm sure.

Hard to understand when you dont really care, like me.

ssd · 11/07/2021 23:23

Im gutted for the players, especially the ones who missed the penalties. And the majority of fans who go home gutted too.

But at least it wont be all over the telly for the next few months...

WouldBeGood · 11/07/2021 23:36

Yeah, but the anti English vitriol will be. So bored of it all

OP posts:
ssd · 11/07/2021 23:38

Its more like anti English media vitriol

SoMuchForSummerLove · 11/07/2021 23:39

I did want Italy to win, but I feel so sorry for the three kids who missed their penalties. A few of them are teenagers, and I feel bad for their mums!

That's how old I am now Grin

mibbelucieachwell · 11/07/2021 23:59

Railing from Laandan.

There were only a few football fans on the train. So glad. To make the tickets cheaper we changed at Crewe and booked with a different operator.

Then discovered there were loads of cancelled trains as lots of train drivers were off work. Ie watching the football. It took 8 hours and 4 trains to get from Glasgow to London.

Groovee · 12/07/2021 09:25

@mibbelucieachwell that's what puts me off public transport.

That's another friend who had Covid last year, double vaccinated, had Covid again 😭. I just feel we'll never live life like we did before.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 12/07/2021 09:37

I'm gutted for the England team to go out on penalties, especially the young guys who had so much pressure on their shoulders. Doesn't detract from the massive achievement of making the final though, and I wish the arseholes who use football as an excuse to be arseholes would just sod off (and I mean all flavours; the racists targeting the England team or fans from other countries, the anti-English bigots partying in the street, or people just looking for an excuse for a brawl).

Haudyourwheesht · 12/07/2021 09:40

Last time I travelled by train from London to Glasgow it took me over 12 hours. I never even expect to be on time any more.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 12/07/2021 09:43

@WouldBeGood

The risk of vaccines to teens is greater than the risk of Covid. This is lunacy
This is a very difficult topic, but I tend to agree with this. Certain rather extremist quarters (Deepti, looking at you) are stating as fact that long COVID is a big problem for teenagers (now that everyone has accepted death is negligible) but I'm not sure there's a lot of evidence to support that, and these same people don't appear to accept that the vaccine carries any risks at all. I'm personally uncomfortable with the known risks of myocarditis etc. as well as unknown longer term risks with a vaccine made from completely new technology, in a cohort that doesn't seem to be seriously affected by COVID. I suspect the risks of the vaccine probably do outweigh the benefits for this age group, and while there is an argument that they should essentially take one for the team to make the rest of us safer, I don't really think this is ethical. I'm glad we have the JCVI considering all this evidence and don't have to rely on politicians who are subject to public pressure.
Scottishskifun · 12/07/2021 10:47

There is due to be a interesting panorama programme into long covid on BBC 1 tonight at 7.35 if anyone is interested.

I would just like to get more tests done and if the recent small scale indicator is anything to go by I likely have dodgy antibodies going on!

Agree people who are violent in football it's not about the football just an excuse for thugs and smokescreens. It's never acceptable but it's not English fans it's thugs who use football as a smokescreen for it! Clubs have done well to stamp a lot of it out but there is a reason the police confiscate passports of many during football tournaments and its nothing to do with them wanting to watch a game!

ssd · 12/07/2021 11:17

Ski, on the bbc news app they are having experts answering questions on long covid at 2pm today

ssd · 12/07/2021 11:21

@Scottishskifun not ski

shouldistop · 12/07/2021 15:35

Weighing in on the whole vaccination thing. I wouldn't be having mine vaccinated until there had been many more years of evidence behind the vaccinations. It's currently not licensed for their age anyway.
I feel like the governments next step will be to offer vaccination to 12+ but they need to terrify parents first through the media by hinting about new strains that are hospitalising children etc.

shouldistop · 12/07/2021 15:37

I should add I've had my first jag and am going for my second in a few weeks. My kids have had their childhood immunisations etc so I'm not an anti vaxxer Smile
I just don't believe COVID would make my children very sick and don't see why they should take one for the team.

rookiemere · 12/07/2021 15:41

I would have DS15 vaccinated in a heartbeat, not because I am worried about him getting covid, but because this seems the only way currently to get out of this ghastly cycle of isolations.

But then he's taller than I am so I assume the adult responses to the vaccine would be in line with his age and development, which would not be the case for younger DCs.

ResilienceWanker · 12/07/2021 15:56

This is what I'm concerned about... That there will be a reluctance to stop bubbles/ school isolation until "the children are protected - 'cos long covid" ... And then there will be a huge push to vaccinate secondary pupils "to avoid continued disruption to their education". And so on. It seems never ending.

I have to say, I was surprised when the entire adult population was offered the vaccine this time... I'd assumed it would just be the over 50s and vulnerable younger people. But then it morphed into getting everyone a first jag before relaxation of the restrictions, and then getting everyone a second jag before things were relaxed. So I can easily see it changing to no full relaxation until "enough" children have been protected too. And to me, that doesn't seem necessary or desirable. I could understand maybe 16/ 17 year olds with Saturday jobs or similar choosing to have it, but beyond that it seems ethically dubious. Especially if it becomes effectively a "condition" for a full, non disrupted education.

rookiemere · 12/07/2021 20:02

Ok this is not covid related but I'd like to have a little rail about the self scanners at Morrisons. Every time there's some issue with them to the point that I'd prefer to queue, but tonight only one till was open.

So I scanned my chicken portions - required a member of staff to authorise- same for salmon apparently. By this stage I'd turned into Julia from Motherland and was begging the poor man to cancel it all so I could queue for 20 minutes in the normal line, but he wisely ignored me.

Piece de resistance was trying to find the watermelon button. Assumed it was under N- Z in fruit and vegetables as handily their cover shot was of a watermelon, but no again nice young man comes over and explains it's under M for Melon. I did ask him to have a word with head office about it, but I suspect he ignored me.

I'll have to go back to home deliveries or M&S I think.

ssd · 12/07/2021 20:06

Have you been chosen to get your shopping checked in a self scan thingy? I must look dodgy, I've been chosen in asda and tesco. The staff need to scan all your stuff again, its a total nightmare.

titsintiers · 12/07/2021 20:11

@rookiemere unexpected item in bagging area aaaaarrrrrggggjhhhhh
