@Scottishskifun you seem absolutely unwilling to accept that at some point these restrictions in Scotland will end. Including the law about masks.

What on earth will you moan about then?
The state of Scottish education system (as a result of the SG)

forfucksakenett · 29/07/2021 20:26

Brilliant. A wee change of scene! Looking forward to the constant comparisons to the English system so we can all learn a wee bit more about how we should be doing things up here.

WouldBeGood · 29/07/2021 20:27

@Pootle40 agreed. I’ve never tested, never will
@ElephantOfRisk yes and I was talking about being out. Weddings, bars etc.

Nobody in these places are masking up between sips unlike people on buses and trains and workplaces who are.
Well they aren't if they are sat at a table but move away and then it's masks back on. What a way to have a wedding. No dancing no surfing round table sto chat etc. and the nonsense about when to wear masks etc.

It's bizarre - less bizarre if you don't follow the rules.

DH was told (NHS) that wearing a mask was for his own protection, not the patients but he still had to wear it whether he wanted to protect himself or not. Same person then said that they wanted masks to remain on public transport as she was vulnerable but when DH pointed out that surely wearing a mask was only for her own protection and that everyone else should be able to choose to wear or not in that case - he was told he had controversial views...

Yeah it's just restrictions I don't like being different up here and no/late swimming lessons for children. Find it bonkers Universities have a quota on Scottish students as well seems unfair to me.

Quite like the fact that supermarkets are open past 4 on a Sunday though 😉

forfucksakenett · 29/07/2021 20:40

@Scottishskifun and don't forget the beer gardens and the treatment of covid and I'm sure there was a voting related gripe. Could be misremembering that last one right enough.

dementedma · 29/07/2021 20:42

I NEED Nicola to allow office workers back. Those dancing at weddi gs,and enjoying pubs, and using public transport may not be aware that hundreds of thousands of office workers are still confined to bedrooms and kitchens, working in isolation.
I am allowed back into my office( because I pretty much had a mental health crisis trying to work from.home) but I am the only one. I work in silence in a huge, covid compliant space. We have floor tape, hand sanitisers, one way systems...oh, and no members of the public. But we're not allowed back. Today our visiting cleaner appeared. I watched her go from room to room, desk to desk. We were her third office building of the day. This is allowed. I am not allowed to sit at my desk over 2 metres away from my work colleague. When is this madness going to stop?

forfucksakenett · 29/07/2021 20:45

@dementedma I honestly think it will stop very soon.

Well the long covid one is pretty god damn obvious 125 clinics compared to zero so that's more just choosing to ignore 87,000+ people!

Ah yes beer gardens some of the makeshift ones up here have been OK but yes miss an English village pub and good beer garden!

ElephantOfRisk · 29/07/2021 20:53

My nephew has been in the office full time all the way through. He told them he wasn't working in his bedroom and couldn't work in the livingroom as it's a shared flat. he told then is would be detrimental to his mental health and he could walk to the office so didn't need public transport etc. it's such a shame that those who want to be in are being prevented from doing so. Being at home has probably contributed to me being off sick but it would be pointless for me sitting in an empty office as it's lack of contact that is my issue as I have an office I can work in at home so that's a different situation than for many still juggling their dining table space etc.

I met up with a couple of people for lunch yesterday and ended up in bed early and slept nearly 10 hours, being out and speaking and interacting for a few hours took it out of me so I'm also concerned that returning to the office proper will have me exhausted for a while.

I just think there needs to be more choice for people with regards to office working again.

forfucksakenett · 29/07/2021 20:55

Well you almost had me convinced about the covid clinics to be fair, and I think I still am actually, but the covid clinics in England are far from a success from what I can gather (admittedly from the Guardian and Twitter). Ill equipped and understaffed seems to be the vibe. If there are going to be covid clinics then they have to be done right. I do hope they happen here but properly. Not just as some photo op and PR.

latissimusdorsi · 29/07/2021 20:55

I remember your situation @dementedma
Glad you got into office but that sounds a bit grimConfused
It worries me that the legal restrictions will be replaced by a load of guidance which some sections like your workplace will continue to follow
I won't feel restrictions have lifted until my kids can attend school without face masks, bubbles and isolation, and university without face masks, blended learning due to social distancing and clubs and societies running normally
When all that's happened I'll accept we've returned to normal, not just when hospitality is all open but education and workplaces still full of restrictions

WouldBeGood · 29/07/2021 21:00

I think there needs to be a lot more study of long Covid: what it is, diagnostic criteria, and if there is differentiation between it and other post-viral/respiratory infection effects.

forfucksakenett · 29/07/2021 21:04

@WouldBeGood yes that's a good point. Could it be the same as other post viral illnesses. I'd never even considered that. I wonder if it will encourage the medical profession to take these things more seriously. I know they haven't always done so.

WouldBeGood · 29/07/2021 21:06

There’s quite a lot of talk about it now, which is a good thing about all this.

ElephantOfRisk · 29/07/2021 21:12

It would be good to get proper research when you have such a number of people with post viral issues available for study at the same time. Post viral issues have been a thing for many years and understanding whether it's a bigger issue with covid or just one that people are more aware off (at the milder end) and picking up on that whereas they might not have necessarily noticed if it wasn't about covid which might be inflating numbers.

Not taking anything away from those with continued post covid issues at all. A friend of a friend has been off work and quite severely ill (unable to walk far/constantly exhausted plus other symptoms) and has never had covid, she had another virus and this has been the result, been ill for around 8 months now and not really getting any better.

WouldBeGood · 29/07/2021 21:18

These post viral/Covid things are horrible.

Scottishskifun · 29/07/2021 21:19

The hospital ones have good set up (cardiology, respiratory, psychologists, physio therapists) and response. The physio/nursing led ones don't it becomes a bit of a postcode lottery to what is set up and its easier to focus on the rubbish ones then the good ones (bit like restaurant reviews).

They are finding about a quarter of long covid sufferers who go through the English ones have undiagnosed organ damage though which wasn't getting picked up elsewhere.

WouldBeGood · 29/07/2021 21:20

I read a doctor on Twitter saying that he’d say around six months for full recovery from any serious respiratory infection.

ssd · 29/07/2021 21:20

Who is stopping workers working in the office? Is it really just the Scottish government? What about the employers? Are they not enjoying saving costs on rent etc?
Im glad you are back @dementedma, but TBH i think your employer was to blame too. I know lots of friends are back at their desk, part time mostly, so many days at home so many in the office kind if thing....most are just getting on with it....

Yeah there are people who are clearly struggling with significant issues but like you say there are probably many at the milder end who are more aware because it's such a focus.

It would be very interesting indeed to know more.

WouldBeGood · 29/07/2021 21:21

It’s the SG I think @ssd

ssd · 29/07/2021 21:24

Ive just looked, it says employers should support home working where possible.
I just think a lot if employers have realised the amount of money they are saving having people wfm and not needing accommodated in expensive offices. And it suits them.
