@Grellbunt

I'm abroad and have just heard the "immoral and dangerous for the whole world" about the GB opening on two different radio stations in two languages. Great PR from the UK govt that brought us the wonder that is Brexit.
It's just beyond embarrassing to live in the UK at the moment (although I didn't and never will vote for his party). I believe 600 have died here over the last 3 to 4 weeks. Yet the UK Government are still going ahead with removing all restrictions. Utterly unbelievable. I used to wake up and wonder what bats*it comments Trump had came out with and now it's the same situation with the PM. He said a few weeks ago that Britain will come back ,"Stronger, more feminine and gender neutral. " WTAF.

@StarryEyeSurprise

Hmm, surely people know how risky it is going abroad at the moment - health wise and financially? Agreed, the UK Government should be running the same rhetoric as the devolved nations re advising against holidays abroad but surely one knows it could be very expensive if hospital treatment is required due to covid?

On a side note, I've seen that Wales are running campaigns re mask wearing should continue in Wales and train operators will ask passengers to put on a mask once they cross the border. I've not seen anything similar here.

How is it risky though? I'm just back from Majorca. I was tested before I left uk, tested before I left Majorca and I'm just about to post our day 2 tests. Honestly life is too short to spend it worrying about everything. And I had insurance for Covid cover. I wore my mask on supermarkets and on flight. Fecking safer and checked more than if living at home. Wouldn't change it for the world. I say I've played my part in keeping the aviation industry alive frankly and showing my kids how to enjoy life and not be bogged down by it all.
Pootle40 · 17/07/2021 13:23

And 600 have died with Covid but we don't know what they actually died of.....

This article in The New European says it all really.

WouldBeGood · 17/07/2021 13:35

They were supposed to be breaking that down, weren’t they @Pootle40?

WouldBeGood · 17/07/2021 13:36

Anyway, now we’re all going to DIE of the beta strain from France so hey ho 🤷🏻‍♀️

ElephantOfRisk · 17/07/2021 13:58

We are also carrying out more testing in the UK than the rest of Europe put together so stands to reason that the shit tests will highlight more "cases".

sick of the gvmt and media feeding the population piles of shite with no actual context.

But yes, we are all going to die. (again true but probably not due to covid and probably not now)

Which nsyrance did you get @Pootle40? We are supposed to be going abroad in October. It’s a holiday that’s now been moved 4 times. Before I pay the balance next week I want a proper policy!

riverrunning · 17/07/2021 14:20

So agree pootle I've got comprehensive insurance I've checked, my kids will miss two days of school in a reasonable worst case scenario where we test positive abroad, we're double jabbed and frankly it's pushed into the risk worth taking category for our family circumstances.

I could wait til October but who knows what the situation will be by then. A bird in the hand and all that.

Pootle40 · 17/07/2021 15:05

Yeah so much for that @WouldBeGood. It doesn't work for their narrative. Easier to keep the scaremongering going.

It was AXA -£40 for a family of 4 for 11 nights.

Enjoy @riverrunning. We saw plenty brits - families and older having thoroughly enjoyable holidays.

Great UK wide research programme into long COVID that builds on England's existing clinical network being reported this morning. The UK really doss have some of the best scientists in the World and I hope they can use this expertise to make a real difference.

ResilienceWanker · 18/07/2021 12:02

Yes, that's good news youcannot! In terms of the research it's great to see Scotland taking a part, and hope they can help identify the underlying issues and work on treatments. I don't know if this is part of the "research" the SG has promised into whether or not long covid clinics should be funded in Scotland, though. Sounds as if not...which is a total surprise Hmm

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 18/07/2021 12:39

Yes @ResilienceWanker, although to be fair Scottish Universities, like those across the UK actually, have many well established research links and networks in all kinds of topics so I'm not surprised. This 'Scotland specific policy' thing is very much an SG construct and doesn't apply to academia that much- we are very much integrated in the UK in collaborations and funding.

I'm not sure any of this research provides a good reason to dump long COVID patients on GPs who are unable to help them, but it sounds good in a soundbite so maybe it us what she's referring to!

Numbers look better today.

My Dad just tested positive though so that's not great Sad

Yy. It says the funding is backed by the NIHR, which is an English body, but that works with Scottish health research through the CSO, so there could be money coming from the SG too, though the report doesn't say. And presumably any research being done through the research councils would be open to groups across the UK as per usual. As there is so much expertise across Scotland and the UK it totally makes sense to combine it, and it is good this seems to be so wide ranging. Which is why I don't understand why the SG policy on LC clinics etc is dependent on "further research" when they could just piggy back on the research being done through these clinics in England (I know it's a different thing, but presumably the academics work with the medics and patients at the clinics to select suitable trial participants/ any that could benefit from experimental treatment etc). But I can't possibly expect to understand what goes on in the mind of the SG.

Sorry to hear about your dad somuch Sad Hope he recovers soon.

But, yes, I know it's Sunday, but the drop in all the measures today - cases, hospitals and ICU is very pleasant to see.

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 18/07/2021 17:53

He's ok @titsintiers (name change for me 😎) just sounds like he's got a cold really.

Thanks for asking Smile
