Wow, hospital number is down!

latissimusdorsi · 16/07/2021 15:38

And case numbers down a thousand since last week!
School holiday effect ???

SoMuchForSummerLove · 16/07/2021 16:33

Its so clearly schools isn't it!

Should be interesting in August. Kids will be going back when cases numbers are still fairly significant, and if bubbles are going...fun and games.

titsintiers · 16/07/2021 16:36

Yep, but we all knew that.

Who know what'll happen tomorrow let alone next month. I think I'm a bit immune to numbers now. Have stopped checking obsessively, wasn't good for my mental health.

StarryEyeSurprise · 16/07/2021 17:57

I've just read that a hospital in Birmingham has had to cancel all elective operations , after a surge in covid cases in their ITU.

Justmuddlingalong · 16/07/2021 17:59

Silverstone racing's going ahead with a 140000 capacity crowd. Wtf. 🤯

StarryEyeSurprise · 16/07/2021 18:18

1 in 95 people in England infected and that'll only go up in the next few weeks ( as restrictions are removed). Unbelievable.

TheGenealogist · 16/07/2021 19:18

What a fucking joke. Just had mum on the phone - she has a whole pile of stuff to go to the tip. She doesn't "do" online. She has no smartphone, no laptop so no, Dumfries and Galloway council, she can't book a sodding APPOINTMENT to drop her shite off online.

At what point will these ridiculous restrictions of requiring an appointment to make a trip to the tip stop? Probably about the same time my local Council get round to removing the Christmas lights, which can't be removed because of "covid".

ResilienceWanker · 16/07/2021 19:22

Yes, it's 1 in 90 up here... That does seem really high - though presumably it reflects the infection rate last week or so, before it started to come down here. And, yes, fingers crossed the small drop in hospitalisations today is the start of something sustained.

I wonder if England's rate will fall after the schools break up too, or if that may be masked by "freedom day"? Our rate may also increase a bit I'd have thought after next week (unless the restrictions being relaxed haven't actually been doing anything to lower the infections at all)? I suppose it's all just a bit messy knowing what's causing what Confused

Yes... There's no justification for those any more, surely?! But as far as I've seen, there's been no change to "guidance" for stuff like that (if there ever was in the first place). I could understand it when everyone was concerned about fomites and council staff were having to be redeployed to cover childcare duties and isolating and whatnot, but surely we're a bit beyond that in tier 0?! Surely? Though my betting is "someone" forgets to change it, because it reduces demand, so they can reduce costs until they realise that everyone will be fly tipping it somewhere as they can't access legitimate disposal options.

Not goodConfused
And Raigmore was on code black this week with all non emergency stuff cancelled as so many staff off self isolating

StarryEyeSurprise · 16/07/2021 21:13

It doesn't make sense that they're moving France to Amber. 3,600 cases in France and 44,000 in England. It shows that any country can be moved to Amber really..

Flossy05 · 16/07/2021 23:08

I read that the South African variant is more prevalent in France and that there are concerns about it being a “vaccine escape variant”. Perhaps more to do with that than actual numbers in France.

WouldBeGood · 16/07/2021 23:16

I think it’s now clear it’s all a massive con. Promised this and that and freedom just another two weeks away.. time and again it’s shifted.

Really fucked off I got jagged now

rookiemere · 17/07/2021 07:19

I agree @WouldBeGood I can't believe we're in a worse position than we were last summer when we have vaccines and we didn't then.

Also disingenuous of government to call countries Green without spelling out very clearly the implications if you test positive abroad and how up the creek without a paddle you'll be , particularly if you don't have insurance.

StarryEyeSurprise · 17/07/2021 08:12

Hmm, surely people know how risky it is going abroad at the moment - health wise and financially? Agreed, the UK Government should be running the same rhetoric as the devolved nations re advising against holidays abroad but surely one knows it could be very expensive if hospital treatment is required due to covid?

On a side note, I've seen that Wales are running campaigns re mask wearing should continue in Wales and train operators will ask passengers to put on a mask once they cross the border. I've not seen anything similar here.

forfucksakenett · 17/07/2021 08:25

The Independent reporting that the UK government's approach is a 'risk to the world'. Apparently having such a high partial vaccination rate and allowing the virus to circulate is exactly how to create vaccine resistant strains.

They're all over the place with their message yet again. Freedom day! Do what you please. Except don't go to France. If you come back from France then you must quarantine even if double jagged. 🤷🏻‍♀️. Johnson is completely reckless and feckless.

Saw that from Wales @StarryEyeSurprise the at first I thought the poster was a joke but apparently is legit. Their messaging is quite... ahem... straightforward!

Yes, I agree there should be consistency on messaging, though to be fair, when the UK gov did what the SG is doing and "allowing it but advising against it" there was widespread outrage of "is it allowed or isn't it- it's all soooooo confusing"... So they've just made it all definitely allowed (albeit not encouraged). Apart from France which is "old amber" (sounds like a paint colour) - and I don't know if travel there is still officially discouraged, or just implied through keeping its special quarantiney status. I don't think anyone is unaware of the implications of testing, or the risks of travel at the moment, though.

I got an email from LNER yesterday explaining their new rules, and basically, yes, they are making people put a mask on as they cross the border. Though they have reached agreement with the SG (or some transport organsation) that the 1m distancing in Scotland but not England won't apply. Meaning they won't have to chuck anyone off the train at Berwick because they're sitting next to someone else, presumably.

WouldBeGood · 17/07/2021 09:50

Many people want to see their families. All excited and book. It’s pretty

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 17/07/2021 09:53

"The Independent reporting that the UK government's approach is a 'risk to the world'. Apparently having such a high partial vaccination rate and allowing the virus to circulate is exactly how to create vaccine resistant strains."

The full opening is undoubtedly a gamble (although I think it's the best of a bad a lot and actually they'll probably get away with it), but threat to the world sounds a bit like hyperbolic nonsense. Our vaccination rate (albeit partial in a lot of cases) is higher than almost anywhere in the world, and the multi millions of people in countries where it is also circulating freely but who have very low vaccination rates are surely a much bigger risk on that front. It's one of the arguments for vaccinating poorer countries before thinking about vaccinating children here.

WouldBeGood · 17/07/2021 10:09

We also have a tiny percent of the world’s population. It’s a ludicrous article.

Grellbunt · 17/07/2021 12:21

I'm abroad and have just heard the "immoral and dangerous for the whole world" about the GB opening on two different radio stations in two languages. Great PR from the UK govt that brought us the wonder that is Brexit.

LizzieMacQueen · 17/07/2021 12:45

I see the Hydro is closing as a vaccination centre.

From BBC

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that the Covid vaccination centre at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow will close after this weekend.

The Scottish government and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) said the move comes as the focus shifts to community drop-ins and mobile facilities.

The Hydro will offer its final jab on Sunday before being handed back in preparation for the COP26 UN climate change conference later this year.

forfucksakenett · 17/07/2021 12:57

Percentage of the world's population is irrelevant surely? The creation of a variant is the creation of a variant. You don't need a certain number of people to make them?
