I heard the gp msp on the radio, he sounded very sensible and very fed up. I thought the guy interviewing him was an absolute eejit though, kept asking him about England instead of Scotland.

ResilienceWanker · 14/07/2021 15:22

I agree - you rail as much as you want scottishskifun! It's only your rails on here that have made me realise the situation in Scotland is different to England. And why that is so, so unhelpful. You're doing us a service, I tell you!

SoMuchForSummerLove · 14/07/2021 16:17

I heard someone on the radio talking about this the other day, but didn't catch who she was.

She was saying that in England, although they do have clinics, a lot of them aren't properly staffed. So they're not consultant-led, but might be run by a Physiotherapist for example, with nursing support, and that many of them are part time due to staffing issues. Obviously access to a physio is good but it's not the same as someone being able to look holistically at your overall condition and needs.

So I can see that there would be long term value in research, which will enable the right help to be put into place. But that does nothing to help people now, of course.

Scottishskifun · 14/07/2021 19:40

@somuchforsummerlove yes from the support groups I'm in the hospital run covid clinics are far better but it's up to each NHS trust how to set them up. There is differences in level of service but tbh at this point I would take seeing a physio in person! My trust my physio is on the phone, not even video and hasn't seen me once in 2 months!

Scottishskifun · 14/07/2021 19:44

It's still a disgrace that they are leaving thousands of people unable to work, unable to care for children and unable to improve. There is only so many tests they do before they say they are all clear.

I can tell you first hand being a spectator to my family life is not only difficult it's soul destroying. I'm 35 I can't wait years for research for the SG to get their act together they have their heads in the sand because its a huge cost to get people like me to even a level of normality!

SoMuchForSummerLove · 14/07/2021 22:53

Physio by phone Confused Ridiculous

My kids have both had GP appointments, optician visits etc. And healthcare providers can't see people in person? Do me a favour. It's a disgrace they've not managed to find a way to do this in almost 18 months.

rookiemere · 15/07/2021 07:39

They're doing physio by phone - still - that's crazy, doing it by video at the height of the first wave seemed bad enough.

ElephantOfRisk · 15/07/2021 09:19

They've done physio by phone for years though. My brother and sister in different health boards both had it for shoulder issues. DH then had similar but as NHS staff, was sent for private physio (pre covid).

SoMuchForSummerLove · 15/07/2021 09:24

I can't see it having much of an impact though, when what people with LC are struggling with is much more systemic than, say, a sore back. Though I guess anything is better than nothing. Just about.

ElephantOfRisk · 15/07/2021 09:57

What happens is eventually it just goes away regardless or gets worse then back to GP and start again. In the meanwhile, tick in the box, someone has had a referral which was delivered in the timescale. I'm sure it's not what the physios signed up for either. Sending out a list of instructions and then going over it on the phone.

Scottishskifun · 15/07/2021 10:04

Yeah I can't say it's actually all that useful as the exercises given are basic.
I know from being privately assessed that I have muscle wastage especially in my legs and core but via the telephone they can't see that even though I've told them.

I need to set up private physio really but I'm already paying for 3 different private treatments and the costs soon add up!

SoMuchForSummerLove · 15/07/2021 10:39

DH had one actual physio session and was then sent off to do exercises at home. But he struggled with knowing if he was doing them correctly, and didn't know if he should stop if his pain got worse, or keep going etc. In the end he just tailed off because there's nobody to ask.

It really doesn't work at a distance, and you're right, it must be so so boring as a physio too.

Thanks @dancemom you're speedy todayGrin
Numbers looking better

Haha! Thanks dancemom!

Yes, I'm hoping the 19 is a blip. Sad But hopefully now the cases are heading in the right direction so hospitalisations etc will follow in a week or so. Mind you, the last time there were as many deaths, earlier in the spring, we had nowhere near as many cases as now, so that's definitely showing the vaccine success.

ResilienceWanker · 15/07/2021 14:48

Quick question. I got my invite for jag 2 today, and, surprisingly it's a really convenient time and place. Unfortunately it says you need to be at least 4 weeks after testing positive for covid, and the appointment will be at about 3 weeks, 4 days! Of course, the only places they have any availability at all a few days later are super inconvenient. I suppose appointments may turn up at this really convenient centre closer to the time (or another couple of places that are also OK for me), but there is absolutely nothing available at the moment at any of them, on any days, so I'm not convinced. And of course there's no way of saying "no, I can't make this appointment, so release it for someone else and I'll sort something else out when you deign to make anything available".

Do you reckon I'll get pushed back if I turn up to my booked appointment as it's a few days too early? Or should I just turn up there a few days later and see if they have availability on that day - even though it's not a drop in? Or should I just go to a proper drop in centre, which is less convenient, but at least "allowed"? Or book an appointment at the super-inconvenient place which will make me grumpy?

It's very frustrating that you hear of totally empty centres, and tonnes of "no shows" (even though you can't tell anyone you know you're not going to be able to make your appointment!), but it's really, really difficult to get a set appointment anywhere within an hours journey of your home... Plus, as being double jagged doesn't seem to be the benefit in Scotland it will be in England or Wales, they are rapidly losing my good will to put myself out a bit.

riverrunning · 15/07/2021 14:58

Might be worth asking your GP @ResilienceWanker - I thought the covid positive gap was because you can get worse side effects if you've recently been covid positive...

latissimusdorsi · 15/07/2021 15:05

I would wait 4 weeks @ResilienceWanker
you can get worse side effects
Just go to a drop in at a time that's convenient for you
I'm in Lothian and the mass vacc centres all do drop in now

latissimusdorsi · 15/07/2021 15:09

But i realise that doesn't solve your problem of how to cancel this appointment Hmm

ResilienceWanker · 15/07/2021 15:15

Ah, I didn't realise that was the reason.. I just assumed it was a recovery thing. Side effects are probably linked to that though, and not keen to worsen them. Thanks for the heads up!

Tbh, I'm perfectly happy to wait. Especially as I think the overall immune response for AZ is better with a longer gap between 1st and 2nd jags (12 weeks better than 8) and I'm not worried about catching it in the intervening period any more! It would just be nice to have a definite time and place I know I can turn up to with minimal faff and waiting around to get it! Ideally without spending my time refreshing a website every 15 minutes between now and then. I think the drop in centre is probably my best bet, I agree, and it doesn't sound like there will be too much waiting around, given the fall off in take up recently. I'll just go on a day when I can combine it with a coffee out or something, to make the trip feel worth it.

Grellbunt · 16/07/2021 09:25

I've been contacted for the long covid study.

They asked me how I feel now but didn't ask when I had it or anything so I hope they're going to cross check carefully with my records. No opportunity to state that there was a lingering impact for about four months though.

Grellbunt · 16/07/2021 09:30

I was cold all the time for about four months which fits in with it being a circulatory disease (I didn't get a cough or breathlessness during it) which seemed to improve with various things eg cold sea dips, iron supplements, stretching, more sleep, lemon juice and herbal treatments. Could also have just been passage of time. Couldn't stomach alcohol for ages too. I'm so relieved to be fine now though - sorry to hear about those suffering longer.
