@YeDancer apparently yet another thing she's going to tell us next week Hmm

YeDancer · 09/07/2021 08:47

might book it and just risk it, before the price soars after her announcement

latissimusdorsi · 09/07/2021 09:05

The irony of quarantining on return from lanzarote to the Covid capital of Europe Hmm
You've much more chance catching Covid at airport on way there🤷🏼‍♀️

YeDancer · 09/07/2021 10:26

how do I get a letter confirming I'm double jagged? I seem to recall there being a website to go to but I can't remember the website (or my log in details!)

LizzieMacQueen · 09/07/2021 10:33

@YeDancer
It's the nhs inform website.

www.nhsinform.scot/covid-19-vaccine/after-your-vaccine/get-a-record-of-your-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccination-status

I think I managed to get mine without knowing my username, the one that came on the invitation letter.

riverrunning · 09/07/2021 13:56

It's a tricky one isn't it @YeDancer not only that the websites will all be hammered Tuesday if we get the green light!

I'd be inclined to book now - as long as you can change if we aren't allowed.

I'm not getting much use of my sun cream here that's for sure!

Cases are so high, they're saying it's 1 in 100 people in Scotland now. It's really putting me off booking stuff with the kids like summer camps/trampoline park etc in case we become a contact and have to isolate Hmm

duvetdrama · 09/07/2021 14:43

With the possible change to travel quarantine, would you still have to test there and on the way back?

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 09/07/2021 15:33

Not that bothered by high cases per se as most seem to be a cold now and we're vaccinated anyway. It's the threat of quarantine that's preventing us going anywhere too. We've done two stints in the last month or so as close contacts, and I'm not sure I could cope with another period stuck in the house!

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 09/07/2021 15:37

I see Wales is following England and scrapping masks and bubbles for school children next school year. Surely Scotland has to follow suit? It's so disruptive to education and kids have suffered enough.

rookiemere · 09/07/2021 15:55

@duvetdrama no change to testing and that's what's made me decide not to go ahead with Majorca in August. Currently DS 15 would need a PCR ( can't use a free one) to get in, we would all need negative lateral flows to get home and then another test ( Scottish government approved one at £88 per person) 2 days when we get home.

With the covid rates as they are currently in Scotland, I just felt it was too much of a risk when we were meant to be sharing a villa for at least one out of seven people to have a positive test. Plus as DH said it would be the opposite of relaxing worrying about the test all week. We might not have been so cautious had it not been that we come back the Saturday and DS is due to start S4 on Monday.

I feel really bad about it as our friends may still be going ahead, and maybe it all would be fine but it was really stressing me out which didn't seem a good omen for a holiday. Plus we struggled in 20 degree heat in the Lake District so maybe Majorca in August was a bit optimistic.

YeDancer · 09/07/2021 18:36

TUI are offering tests from £20 - can we not just use these ones instead of the scottish government approved ones

rookiemere · 09/07/2021 20:05

@YeDancer unfortunately for the test on return to Scotland you're obliged to use the SG approved one. Feels like a bit of a monopoly situation, but there we go.

celtiethree · 09/07/2021 21:12

I’ve nothing booked and not planning on anything but suppose you could fly in and out of any English airport and mid avoid some of the pain?? Been to a few restaurants recently with QR check in - nothing to check that you’ve actually done it - just a cursory look that you have your phone vaguely pointed at the QR code.

rookiemere · 10/07/2021 10:07

@celtiethree not sure you'd avoid much by flying to England as currently everything but the £88 test are the same. If you're travelling back to Scotland within the two day period I think they'd probably insist on the SG recommended test.

Thanks @dancemom

Glad to see the case numbers look better than this time last week (-1000 cases but also about 7k less tests).

17 more people in intensive care than last Saturday, and an extra 129 people in hospital. Hopefully we're past the peak and we can start to see better numbers in the next few weeks.

Those vaccination numbers are dire - particularly the 1st doses - getting the young vaccinated.. Why is nothing being said, when clearly there's a problem here?

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 12/07/2021 15:17

More data issues out of the Glasgow lab? This is getting a bit ridiculous and quite annoying as every time I think cases are falling sharply it turns out to be an artefact, and I can't really trust the data.

It does look as though there is a problem getting younger people to take up the vaccine doesn't it? I think I've seen a news article on this somewhere. It's a difficult one from a psychological point of view, because if you go in really hard with the coercive tactics like vaccine passports etc., quite apart from the ethical issues, it can backfire. We instinctively push back when we're cornered. People who may have just been ambivalent start to question why they need to coerce people to take a vaccine if it's so great, and then focus more on the disadvantages like reported side effects. People in their early twenties might also be looking at the debate around whether to vaccinate teenagers and the potential concerns over safety, and think they're actually not so far away from that age bracket so would rather take their chances with COVID. It's a fine line to tread. We may need to accept that we can't get everyone.

YeDancer · 12/07/2021 15:26

We've booked a holiday in Greece, leaving in 2 weeks

Do we really need to use the SG approved tests? Can we not go with another company? Its working out £510 for a family of 3 for tests! Whereas TUI are advertising cheaper tests.

When does NS let us know if fully vaccinated and under 18s in Scotland can travel to Amber countries the same way the English can? When is her next announcement? Will she even let us go?
