@Scottishskifun tried that! They turned me away. Hands tied.
My parents have both had Pfizer in England they didn't select it was just what was offered that day.

I would try another drop in and just say that you're GP recommended you went for Pfizer or moderna due to medical history of blood clots in your family if they are refusing.

I would have had to get the Pfizer regardless of my age as my mum has a history of ministrokes and blood clots and I have always been told I can't take the pill due to increased risk. When I called up our local vaccination number before they changed the rules for under 40s they told me that they agreed and I simply had to explain to staff as long as they had Pfizer that day I would get it otherwise they would rebook me. In the end I got a bin one but was still Pfizer.

Grellbunt · 02/07/2021 08:01

They said I would need a GP letter. All Pfizer being kept for under 40s since the rule change. So those of us just over 40 are only permitted AZ. I know a few early 40s women who are still in limbo and really feeling quite upset and forgotten about. Nurse told me ScotGov was absolutely rigid about it - no exceptions.

Grellbunt · 02/07/2021 08:04

GP says they cannot influence it either. Luckily I have already had it - I had such mild symptoms I was hardly ill, which is another reason I fear rare but catastrophic side effects over a mild illness. Happy to be vaccinated but not with one that has known safety concerns.

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 02/07/2021 08:50

just a wee update, you might remember we got a notification of a positive case in DDs class five days after schools broke up.

for those who said we should ignore the message for her to test and isolate, she's now tested positive

titsintiers · 02/07/2021 08:52

How is she @ClosedAuraOpenMind?

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 02/07/2021 08:56

she's fine. she doesn't know she's got covid yet, so her isolation period, which would have ended on Monday, is now extended by another week Sad
DH and I getting tested later this morning

Hope you all stay well! My DS (2) didn't have any symptoms when we all tested positive for the entire time it's a very strange illness!

Can recommend buying some stickers/activities/colouring books off amazon and rationing to one new one a day to wade off frustration! That's what we did previous isolations with him.

Grellbunt · 02/07/2021 09:11

Commiserations to all isolating - it's so dull and hard on the kids...

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 02/07/2021 09:38

well, we had a few tears when we told her - but that was about having to isolate for longer. she's missing the first week of holiday club and we were due to go camping next weekend so that can't happen.
yeah, isolating is tough on the kids x

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 02/07/2021 10:00

Update today at 12:15 apparently, following continued increases in cases which make it very unlikely that the peak was early last week as previously thought. I really hope that our 'freedom day' isn't pushed back yet further (remember it's already three weeks behind England) because of past SG decisions that have seen us not only more restricted, but have left us more immunologically susceptible and are giving us a larger wave now.

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 02/07/2021 11:08

Think today's briefing was scheduled earlier in the week, so wouldn't read too much into it.
If she announces something major - like a further delay in easing restrictions- then the opposition will really have a go at her for not doing it in Holyrood. think the Presiding Officer has also made clear she expects major announcements to be to parliament

Scottishskifun · 02/07/2021 11:23

They have just announced walk in clinics for over 18s all across Scotland starting Monday. Would give it another go and just say you need Pfizer or moderna.

I think it's also depends on local vaccination centre/people. As said majority of my over 40 work colleagues have had Pfizer and some of them requested it without any issues! Maybe if you tried a big walk in clinic go for a smaller one or vice versa?!

Haudyourwheesht · 02/07/2021 11:57

Unless they've changed policy a vaccination nurse I know said that you have to take what's offered.

Grellbunt · 02/07/2021 11:58

Hi
Thanks so mych for listening and making suggestions. They specifically say 18-39 only. Believe me I have tried, repeatedly. Thats why I'm angry! I don't have the emotional energy or time to keep going and being turned away. The staff said I just have to wait and see if the rules change.

runningpink · 02/07/2021 11:58

@Scottishskifun where can I find out about walk in clinics?
That would suit me so much better than the inconvenient appointment I have still been unable to change!

@runningpink try your local health board website, or social media. I've seen a lot on Twitter

runningpink · 02/07/2021 12:16

Found it, thank you!

Unfortunately it’s Only saying for tomorrow which is too early for the 8weeks between doses and is in a worse location that my current appointment. Would be a 90 miles round trip! 🙄

Would keep checking back online as I don't think it's a 1 day thing but yes really should have a 8 week gap (max protection level)
dancemom · 02/07/2021 12:22

The first minister begins by confirming a further 3,823 Covid cases - 10.8% of tests carried out on Thursday.
This takes the total number of positive cases in Scotland to 289,279.
There are 285 people in hospital with recently confirmed Covid-19, 10 more than yesterday.
Nicola Sturgeon says 19 people are in intensive care, up three from the previous figure.
There have been four further deaths in the past 24 hours of people who have tested positive in the previous 28 days.
That brings the total number of deaths by that measurement to 7,726.

Angry very angry at NS - don't use fucking long covid as a public health message when you refuse on multiple occasions to set up long covid clinics!!!!!!!

My colleague ( 50s) had Pfizer. She didn't feel safe taking AZ. It's not down to the SG's - people at the vaccine centres can do it.
Grellbunt · 02/07/2021 12:29

That must have been before they made the announcement on under 40s getting Pfizer. They've doubled down since then. Your colleague would have been quite a while before I was invited.

Grellbunt · 02/07/2021 12:30

They explicitly state it is because they need to conserve stocks for under 40s since that announcement. So no vaccine for me and several acquaintances and no hope of one.

runningpink · 02/07/2021 12:31

I will keep checking thanks.

I also won’t be travelling 90 miles so hopefully they might do walk in clinics in other areas each week. Fingers x anyway

This is the point though, presumably there’s no symptoms and your daughter is well. Back to 2019 when children and all adults could be carrying bugs/a virus and thanks to strong immune/T cells not really be impacted. We will never return to normality whilst we are testing and isolating anyone who isn’t ill.

The obsession with cases in Scotland over the last week has reached far more damaging levels for our mental health than anyone being physically ill. Even Chris Whitty has now endorsed living with this and managing it for those impacted in a severe way- as we do with flu, in all age groups.
It would be much better for our mental health to hear SG taking a more realistic approach sooner, rather than later. Children and parents need to know the schools can return in a meaningful way in August, without this ludicrous isolation policy.
