I think it was explained as: before vaccination the hosp rate was something like 1-012% but now it's down to 5%. I don't have any more insight than that, and it could be that people attend hospital for a number of hours then leave again.

It's not really that I'm concerned about as such, more just the utter chaos I'm seeing in people's lives. And it just feels like we have to be ok with that now? All feels a bit out of control and I'm back to worrying about going places, whereas for a while I felt pretty free.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 01/07/2021 15:23

Sorry, stupid typo! 10-12% I think is what I saw as the previous figure. Don't know where they get that from though, given that's not what we're seeing.

WouldBeGood · 01/07/2021 15:36

The chaos now is stemming from the ludicrous rules on isolating rather than actual illness though. It needs to stop now. Fortunately looks like it’s going to in England, hopefully along with masks, etc, so the SG will really have to follow.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 01/07/2021 16:00

That's what I'm saying though. If we're just allowing infections to run free, then the chaos is still there. People are off work, very ill, for weeks at a time. And I haven't heard of isolating as a close contact being stopped.

Scottishskifun · 01/07/2021 16:01

@SoMuchForSummerLove oh I completely get it especially with the change in tact so quickly but also SG refusal to break down the stats of hospitalisations which the statistics authority has called on them to do on 2 separate occasions now!

Can tell you that each health authority is aware of what is test positive attend hospital generally or catch covid in hospital and what is attend hospital because of covid. The number attend hospital for covid treatment solely is lower than reported.

The good news is also that those who are double jabbed is working it's about 8% of double jabbed people having to attend hospital which is really low!

Oh and to the SG long covid clinics I don't know what number it needs to reach before they take action but it's now over 100,000 people with long covid!

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 01/07/2021 16:04

I've heard there are a lot of no shows for the vaccinations. I wonder if this is linked to the very high positive test numbers right now, as you are barred from getting the vaccine for 28 days after a positive test. The cohort getting infected right now is also the cohort being scheduled for vaccinations so this would make sense.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 01/07/2021 16:07

I was thinking the same @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us - also what does that do to people who were meant to be getting their second jab? That'll be pushed back by quite a bit.

latissimusdorsi · 01/07/2021 16:08

So why the fuck is that not the statistic published. The other is irrelevant Angry

Scottishskifun · 01/07/2021 16:15

@latissimusdorsi I don't know but they do have the data! I think there is usually a bit of a lag time with it but not by much!

There have been repeated calls on the SG to publish the stats properly but they don't a bit like long covid clinics it seems to fall on deaf ears and they do what they want!

Pootle40 · 01/07/2021 16:15

I can also tell you from my experience right now that's it's very difficult to reschedule. I am due my 2nd vaccine on Monday (8 weeks after first). This is in Fife. I've gone on the NHS portal multiple times to re-schedule and I can only reschedule for a day up to 11th July at the moment (when I still won't be back!). So I may have to reschedule multiple times if they don't open up the booking calendar !
WouldBeGood · 01/07/2021 16:16

I think they now need to lift all the isolating and stop publishing case numbers each day.

They can start again, if they must, if there becomes a cause for concern.

WouldBeGood · 01/07/2021 16:16

Plus they should stop getting healthy people to test.

ElephantOfRisk · 01/07/2021 16:18

Interestingly and more worrying is that A and E ambulance teams are currently the busiest they've been but not directly linked to covid (as in its not people with covid needing quickly admitted etc). I believe top level ranked emergencies are doing OK as they are prioritised but lower level but still emergency jobs are not being actioned as quickly as normal and staff are working flat out.

Research and analysis still trying to work out why they have this issue.

WouldBeGood · 01/07/2021 16:21

This happened elsewhere too @ElephantOfRisk and was linked to people being scared or unable to access frontline medical treatment so that they become much sicker by the time they present. It happened in England recently and Australia a while ago.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 01/07/2021 16:28

People will continue to either leave things too long or go to A and E with more minor complaints for as long as GPs are refusing to book routine appointments. I don't see how the health service can possibly catch up on all the missed health care while it's still so hamstrung with restrictions.

ElephantOfRisk · 01/07/2021 16:41

It's not so much folk turning up at A&E, it's people calling in and being assessed as requiring an A&E ambulance which I guess is linked but not quite the same as someone turning up to A&E with a more minor ailment. I think there has been a lot of because they can't see a GP still. It's quite concerning really.

Scottishskifun · 01/07/2021 17:07

@SoMuchForSummerLove

They will be the equivalent or greater of second jabbed anyway.

The research studies for Pfizer and moderna show that with one jab and positive covid in the last 6 months your antibody level is greater than people with 2 covid jabs. It's why although my area is snowballing I'm not really worried.

They still need a second jab for longevity but it basically acts like a booster more and doesn't really increase antibody levels if they have had covid in the 6 months prior.

WouldBeGood · 01/07/2021 17:08

I think what’s happened is that what would have been treated if seen earlier has now become a more serious condition.

Not people togging up to a & e with minor things. More like someone putting up with pain gradullay getting worse over the year until it comes to a head and they need an ambulance and A&E

latissimusdorsi · 01/07/2021 17:08

GPS have been working incredibly hard throughout but imho the messaging hasn't been right

Our surgery has changed their recorded message from a don't even think about it one to we will do our best to help you but we're very stretched and experiencing high demand

Can see why some people will decide their problem is not important enough and hang up.
And then over a weekend it gets much worse!

latissimusdorsi · 01/07/2021 18:04

Scotland has 14% of uk cases today for 8% population Confused

Coquohvan · 01/07/2021 18:26

Thanks @ClosedAuraOpenMind that’ll be it not enough Pfizer for the younger age groups who can’t get AZ

WouldBeGood · 01/07/2021 19:08

I saw somewhere that they were rethinking AZ for the younger group. Who knows?

Anyway… cases don’t matter

Coquohvan · 01/07/2021 19:50

Agree @WouldBeGood as soon as the younger cohorts get jabbed cases will drop and some people will be less anxious about them.
I’m in France and my area has 10 cases per 100K 👍

WouldBeGood · 01/07/2021 19:57

Oh, @Coquohvan I can’t wait to get to France again

Grellbunt · 01/07/2021 20:42

@Scottishskifun tried that! They turned me away. Hands tied.
