I don't know if @waxonfeckoff is posting any more, but I'd like to let her know that we finally made it to Aspava - the turkish restaurant in Cockermouth tonight. Members of the party were groaning before we left " Ooh it might be spicy - I don't like spicy food" and "Isn't it an Indian- no I didn't read the FB messenger post as I don't use FB in case people hack my dull and uninteresting messages ".

But everyone was happy when we got our meals. So nice to be away en masse with SIL and family again, even if I can't actually cope with that many people any more and spend most of my time hiding in the bedroom.

titsintiers · 27/06/2021 21:56

I think she posts under another fecking username Wink

Glad you enjoyed it! I didn't get back on our recent break as DSs girlfriend doesn't eat anything spicy so we didn't want her to feel pushed out or under pressure as it's the first time she's been away with us and with covid etc we don't really know her that well.

We are usually groaning when we leave rather than before as we end up ordering or eating too much.

Vaccinations are disappointing given the ridiculous rise in case numbers.

WouldBeGood · 28/06/2021 14:36

We told them on here ages ago that they should set up round the clock vaccination centres!

SoMuchForSummerLove · 28/06/2021 14:38

We did! Although that wouldn't help if it's a supply issue, I guess.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 28/06/2021 14:55

A week ago I was mildly shocked by the figures (although not really worried as cases don't matter that much any more). Now I just kind of shrug and am mildly curious about how high they'll get. I don't know what is going on with the vaccines though, I haven't heard any complaints about supply and wonder if take up is the problem in younger age groups? The centre near us has been very quiet for the last week or so. Or the ridiculous letter system which they -eventually seem to be conceding is wholly inappropriate for this cohort?

SoMuchForSummerLove · 28/06/2021 14:57

I am kind of shocked - the whole way through this I've only known a handful of people to have it, and now I know at least ten adults, some double vaccinated, all completely knocked off their feet and in bed. It's a bit unnerving tbh.

WouldBeGood · 28/06/2021 15:17

Doesn’t matter as long as not clogging up the hospitals

Pootle40 · 28/06/2021 15:25

Fact is if the case numbers signalled something bad we'd have all been locked back up by now with rates of 12.9%! The govts have faith, stats and reports which confirm vaccines are working but they don't want to be shouting it from the rooftops and telling us all to rub up against each other.!

WouldBeGood · 28/06/2021 15:31

Mmm.. rubbing 😂

I think many believed the rhetoric that you can avoid catching it if we all just do as we are told...... Reality is very different especially with the new variants. It can be a horrible illness hope they are OK I honestly don't think I would have been as floored as you was or suffering from long covid if I had a vaccination before I caught it.

It is unfortunately here to stay just got to hope the current trend of low hospitalisations continues and get vaccines when you can!

The vaccination can stop you catching it but I think the studies are showing its a lower percentage than the reduction of serious illness.

The majority of people will catch it at some point but the good news is that it then offers a high level of antibody protection for quite a while after especially if they have a vaccination.

HadEnoughOfBears · 28/06/2021 15:45

It's rife here just now absolutely ripping through the kids.
Kids from one local school must have tested positive over the weekend and test & protect have advised that 2 x P2 classes, P4, P6 and part of the nursery need to isolate.
Great start to the holidays for them all.

Pootle40 · 28/06/2021 15:52

Fingers crossed under 12s start to reduce now schools are closed. Teens I think are more likely to be socialising in bigger groups and indoors so I don't know that will be much better. It's the 20-24 age group most significantly picking up the infection at the moment when I suppose you are at max socialisation !

I just wouldn't comply with an isolation period based on school contact. We’ve already travelled down south for school holidays, I’ll buy tests if contacted and if testing negative then life goes on. Even positive in a child, I won’t be keeping DC locked up, but we’ll avoid contact with other families, so we’re being responsible. It’s like we’ve all forgotten how we dealt with child illnesses pre 2020🤷‍♀️ If we don’t start pushing back on ridiculous rules for isolation from school groups (when majority of children are isolating with negative test results) we’re on for a controlled start to new school year and into winter again.
WouldBeGood · 28/06/2021 21:00

I’m still doing no testing ever

Bytheloch · 28/06/2021 21:04

Tbh, I’m just being polite when I say I’ll buy tests, I won’t even answer the phone to any unknown numbers to get the request in the first place...

WouldBeGood · 28/06/2021 21:05

I’ve given up on polite for all this pish.

I’m normally very polite and mild mannered

Gingerkittykat · 29/06/2021 00:53

I'm confused. I was feeling safer and now Fife has risen to 266 per 100 000 and my village has gone from suppressed to 499. We were told not to go to Manchester but the cases are now higher where I live.

I was in the shielding group and was hoping to have some more freedom. I'm going away to stay with a friend this weekend, going for a meal and possibly hiring a log cabin for a couple of nights next week too.

I've decided to stop swimming and exercise at home again but don't want to cut anything else out. My DD is going out with her friends, restarting driving lessons later this week and going to uni in September.

It all swirls through my mind, CEV but with some protection from being double jabbed, but the new Delta variant seems more risky. I want to be safe but want freedom too.

I work and study from home for now, my main risky contact will be medical appointments. I'm averaging 2 a week at the moment and the waiting rooms are getting busier.

rookiemere · 29/06/2021 08:03

@Gingerkittykat numbers were always going to go up when restrictions were lifted, additionally Scotland is doing loads of testing.

The Delta variant is much more contagious- hence the high numbers - but as far as I am aware no more, and possibly less serious than the original strain.

Hopefully numbers will go down further once more people are vaccinated and schools are now out.

It's easy for me to say, but as you are double vaccinated even with a health condition you're highly unlikely to become seriously ill if you catch it these days. But I can understand the reluctance to expose yourself to the virus. I would have thought a self catering cottage would be a lovely compromise as little chance of coming into contact with many people but a nice change of scenery.

charliebrown59 · 29/06/2021 09:36

The Twitter chat is about vulnerable kids who haven't had two jabs, the unknowns on long covid (very high numbers reporting it) and the adults who aren't second jabbed yet...

Surely a lot of these positives are football related...

Helensburghmiddleagedmum · 29/06/2021 09:43

I think Covid is starting to run rife again now, not just football related, lots of people mixing, families, friends, people going out to restaurants and cafe's, meeting each other in houses and gardens, shopping more. People possibly feeling less anxious about Covid because they have been double vaccinated. Initially I think a lot of us were under the impression that being double vaccinated meant we wouldn't get Covid. It is clear now that if you have had the AZ vaccine, even a double dose, you have a 4 in 10 chance of getting Covid, though you won't be hopefully seriously ill. From the people I have heard of who have had 2 doses of the AZ vaccine and still got Covid it is a nasty illness, much worse than a cold, even with the two doses. Obviously government opinion now is that we have to get on with it, people will get Covid, but things are opening up, schools are back, people are back in the office, travelling, attending sporting events, and so on and so forth.
