Apparently the walk in place at the Caird Hall in Dundee will take anyone at all - Fifers welcome but only for first jab.

ElephantOfRisk · 26/06/2021 11:14

When I went for my 2nd (forth valley) the jabber said that you could register with them for spare jags (for my DSs) but actually only one could as with the other being based in Aberdeen (student) they'd not be able to get his details on the FV system so wouldn't be able to do him. It just doesn't seem consistent though.

All have their appointments now though.

RailingOnAndOn · 26/06/2021 11:44

I've not posted here for ages. So apologies for jumping in.
My son is in the over 18s section and dead keen to get a jab ( especially as half his mates seem to have caught it watching football together.. reality bites!)
Are there any drop in for this age range? Registrations closed after a couple of weeks and he tried and failed. We are in Lothian and I have only seen 40+ offered.

It's horrible hearing 20/200 taking up the appointment but not surprising.

annabelindajane · 26/06/2021 11:45

@SoMuchForSummerLove

It is. I feel like it's everywhere now, in the school, in my workplace. It's fucking depressing. Things felt much more hopeful about a month ago! Can't understand why we're SO much worse than everywhere else in the UK.
Maybe something to do with 22000 football fans running around London and then returning to liberally share their germs. I know one of these . Now he is quite ill, his wife can’t go to work and his 2 children can’t go to school🤷‍♀️
RailingOnAndOn · 26/06/2021 11:47

I always ft when Edinburgh got it bad it would go like wildfire round the Lothians. We just haven't had the cases of other cities so there's little immunity compared to London, Birmingham, Bristol, Newcastle.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 26/06/2021 11:53

Oh definitely @annabelindajane but that doesn't really explain why we're so much worse than England right now. Not that it matters, I was just having a wail and a rail Grin

Waiting for DS' test results so a day in the garden for us...

latissimusdorsi · 26/06/2021 12:07

@RailingOnAndOn haven't seen drop ins for that age in but keep eye on their SM
but I think you're son will get letter very soon. DC1 is 18 and registered for email appointment as did load of friends. They've all got appointments over next 2 weeks so Lothian obviously vaccinating that age group now

RailingOnAndOn · 26/06/2021 12:23

He wasn't able to register despite trying a few times. I guess that puts him back of the queue.

ElephantOfRisk · 26/06/2021 12:26

DS and his GF tried to rearrange their appointment via the online thing but were unable to do so, turns out their postcode was wrong so when they put in the correct one it was having none of it. They had to phone in the end. Would it be worth your DS calling the helpline @RailingOnAndOn?

RailingOnAndOn · 26/06/2021 12:28

It was something similar here! He says registration closed.
I may suggest the help line at least he might get some helpful forewarning that way if there's an appointment coming up.

latissimusdorsi · 26/06/2021 12:30

Think they'll still send out letters though to people who didn't register for email. Probably worth phoning helpline as may already be appointment in system for him if they're doing that age group now

ElephantOfRisk · 26/06/2021 12:46

the main reason my DSs registered was because we were going away on holiday and you don't get much notice between the letter and the appointment and also for DS2 he would be down with us in FV and also away in the middle. All three (DSs and GF) got their appointments texted for the week we were away...

DS1s isn't now until the middle of July but DS" and GF are next week.

I'd have thought that Glasgow Central Mosque would be ok on public transport. Less fun in the car if you have no sense of direction though. Not sure that Kirkintilloch can do Pfizer /moderna so suspect that one will be closing soon. DH got Allander for both (AZ) which was actually very convenient for his work but would have been difficult without a car. Not sure where my second will end up being as my first was supposed to be in Kirkintilloch but they only had AZ which they wouldn't give me (too young by 2 weeks!!) so sent across to Central Mosque. Not too bothered as I have a car...

I got Pfizer at Kirkintilloch so that’s not true.
randomsabreuse · 26/06/2021 13:17

@pawsbaws

Hopefully I will get Kirkintilloch next then, although I'd quite like it to be back to being a sports hall asap (at least by the time schools go back!)

I think when they were finishing off the O40 1st jabs they were only doing Pfizer in one place as people had been sent in from all over to get Pfizer (including the Hydro) - I was assuming Kirkintilloch didn't have suitable storage!

It's antibodies and lower previous infection rate. The UK variant which could effect children went like wildfire in England in the Winter. The children will still have the antibodies to it and although we had some spikes it wasn't as much. There has still been outbreaks in English schools but not to the same extent that Scotland is currently experiencing.

That coupled with the football of hugging/dancing etc as the banners so no Scotland no party..... Except the party allows covid cases to spread.

That's why we are so much worse coupled with the majority of people now given up (can't blame them).

Covid can be very grim if you haven't had a vaccine though I know that one just got to hope they don't get it badly or get long covid as it sucks and there is very little support available!

Ladylunchalot · 26/06/2021 15:22

There have been drop in clinics in Lanarkshire all this week and for longer periods this weekend if anyone is local. The actual locations and times are on Facebook under NHS Lanarkshire.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 26/06/2021 16:09

There seem to be plenty advertised on NHS Fife and Tayside Facebook pages too.

mibbelucieachwell · 27/06/2021 14:20

High numbers of cases again today, but I wonder if now that the schools closing and the Scottish participation in the Euros is over the numbers in Scotland won't get higher?

Wotcha think folks?

mibbelucieachwell · 27/06/2021 14:22

Aaghh. That wasn't clear.

Will this be the Scottish peak? Now that schools are closed and football runs aren't packing together in their thousands to watch Scotland play?

Suppose that will depend on if people who test positive stick to isolation or not. If they are ill then obviously they will as you feel absolutely horrific but if no symptoms I don't know how many people will shrug it off!

In my area cases have been driven by school outbreaks and the football!

SoMuchForSummerLove · 27/06/2021 15:20

I hope that's the peak. Our town has gone from 3 cases to more than 30 in about ten days.

Who knows. Less testing now schools have closed. Seems the 18-25 age group is the issue and probably nobody really ill. Feels like we are quite a way from those people being double vaccinated. I'm 45, no medical conditions and only getting 2nd jab in a week.
