Scotland- Enough is enough

Starting this thread for those of us who are done. I don’t want to just rail or fight about it with those who still believe that government messaging is in our best interest. Enough is enough.

I don’t think they will I think it will be oh no, we need boosters; still lockdowns as Boris said today; never ending. Unless people stop cooperating.

ElephantOfRisk · 21/06/2021 22:14

It will be lockdown every winter to save investing any more in the NHS, no more winter crisis.

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 22:16

It’s a solution to a failed health service.

latissimusdorsi · 21/06/2021 22:38

DH has sibling in another European country. Their Covid numbers been similar to Scotland's ( but less deaths). But their lockdowns been nothing like as harsh. Schools been back since last August with no disruption. Hairdressers, coffee shops open right through the winter.
BUT big difference is they spend way more as a country on healthcare, have a lot more hospital beds so there's not same worry of overwhelming the hospitals. It's compulsory health insurance and Gov does not run the health services so it's not really up to gov to decide whether they'll be overwhelmed. Also takes away the political aspect of gov being blamed if hospitals don't cope as they don't run them

dementedma · 21/06/2021 22:47

Told my Boss I was refusing to work from home anymore. Quoted DSE assessments, Health and Safety at Work Act and Duty of care. Pointed out that advice to work from home where possible is just that. Advice. Not law. Asked him to define " where possible".
Result is I am now allowed back in the office full time. We need to start pushing back against Scot Gov's ridiculous inconsistencies.

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 22:48

Oh! Bloody well done @dementedma!

latissimusdorsi · 21/06/2021 22:51

Oh Result!! @dementedma

ElephantOfRisk · 21/06/2021 23:02

Brilliant result demented!

Wakeupin2022 · 21/06/2021 23:04

demented good! I'm in Englandshire and I know one of my colleagues have been in office throughout this time. And more and more are drifting back to the office even if it's just a few days a week.

I live a bit further away but I can't wait until I can next go.

pinktables · 21/06/2021 23:35

Got the dreaded text saying confirmed case in DC1s. They're now saying siblings must not come into school either?

So we live in a country where the contact of a contact must self isolate... but football team's aren't classed as contacts and anyone who registers as self employed and travels for work related purposes is exempt from either quarantine or giving their details to track and trace (UK).

I'm seriously pissed off about the logic. DC1 crying because they won't see a much loved teacher again and didn't get to say goodbye. DC2, much younger, crying because they had a fun day planned and will miss it.

P7s are also out and missed the thing that was supposed to replace the missed residential trip.

Really sad for them all.

ssd · 21/06/2021 23:51

Thats so bad, doing that to kids.
Something definitely has to give.

Agsjsgkahs · 22/06/2021 05:57

I’m English but reside in Scotland.

I generally try to keep out of Scottish politics, apart from voting as I think there’s been enough interference.

I am also an nhs nurse and have / had an amount of respect for NS, in that the nhs is a much nicer place to work up here than the hell hole it was back home.

However, I’m really struggling to see the logic of this. It’s like she’s found a region of England and took aim. Politically it makes little sense as out of the whole of England Greater Manchester and Liverpool would probably be most sympathetic to independence and left leaning.

Parts of Scotland really benefit from tourism, as does greater Manchester and I’m sure there’s many families from across the area.

It’s also very difficult to police. I am not from the travel ban area but from somewhere 10-20 miles from it. I recently was home for a visit. The cases in my local home town are not far off the Manchester numbers . Not every person residing in GM was born and raised there and not every person with a GM accent resides there.

I’m so grateful to work in Scotland and have escaped the hell of being a staff nurse in England, but this was off the mark

Bytheloch · 22/06/2021 07:39

@pinktables that’s awful, not even a positive test in your house yet you’re all so emotionally impacted. It’s illogical on this level. From a school POV, a vomit bug or even nits has a clearer pathway.
Hope your DCs are doing ok this morning.

This is brilliant. I know a friend who’s pretty much said the same-not in Scotland though- which also led to others asking, who hadn’t thought they could! Hope your action means others benefit too @dementedma 🙌🏻

Thanks all. It seems you cannot be forced to work from home if you can show that for you, it's not possible. I hope others have the same success. Much appreciate everyone's support

Have the rules changed in this? Or are the school taking a more cautious approach?
Whycangirlsbesonasty · 22/06/2021 10:34

We had a recent change. We’ve been told by NHS Lothian that siblings of a close contact have to isolate too and do a test. If the sibling’s test is negative then the siblings are allowed out of isolation, but the poor close contact has to still isolate. Previously it was just the close contact.

Cases are sky high here but apparently this is not being reflected in hospital admissions so I can’t see why we have to isolate. Yes we don’t want to get it, yes we don’t want long Covid but we certainly don’t want to isolate in the last week of school.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 22/06/2021 18:19

I am just so fucked off today. Where the fuck is the opposition in this shit

charliebrown59 · 22/06/2021 18:26

I suppose a lot of people are hoping the rules will be different on isolation by next term and hanging on for the end of this one.

WouldBeGood · 22/06/2021 18:42

There is no opposition.

People need to stop complying and say enough is enough.

RaraRachael · 22/06/2021 22:35

I just don't get it. We have a woman who said she didn't feel safe working in the classrooms with children (the job she is actually contracted to do), so has been allowed to prance about the school tidying stuff up and photocopying for a whole bloody year. I asked her if she'd be back to her normal job in August (now she's had both her vaccines), and she said, "Oh no - even though you've been vaccinated you can still pass it on".

What is the bloody point?

Lockdownbear · 22/06/2021 22:38

Pinktables is the school being overly cautious as its the last week and really the teachers are concerned that their holidays could be jeopardised?
(I mean booked holidays, not just time away from work holidays)

Bytheloch · 23/06/2021 08:04

We’ve been told by NHS Lothian that siblings of a close contact have to isolate too and do a test. If the sibling’s test is negative then the siblings are allowed out of isolation, but the poor close contact has to still isolate. Previously it was just the close contact.

Illogical.
I’ve looked into this a bit out of curiosity this week and wondered how the footballers achieved it there seems to be allowances for folk testing negative, returning to premises classed as ‘covid safe’ (can’t stand that phrase). So there’s no contact of contact or siblings/relatives of contact expected to isolate in the grown up world. Nor is there in professional sport, there’s exemptions. It’s all based on the idea that children are mixing physically (and assuming that young children really don’t wash hands as well etc.) at playtime. The classroom is defined as ‘covid safe’ workplace for the teacher. Hence why teachers not off in isolation due to contact of contact, because they literally haven’t had the close contact.

In short, isolation orders when children have had negative tests are out of order and need to be addressed for the new term in August for everyone’s sake.

I was a very strict covid rule follower the entire way through the pandemic but I have to say seeing the crowds at the football has made even me think to hell with this. I of course will still be careful myself, will continue to wear masks etc but I can’t blame people now for having 1 or 2 more people in their house than their supposed to or things like that.
