Starting this thread for those of us who are done. I don’t want to just rail or fight about it with those who still believe that government messaging is in our best interest. Enough is enough.

@WouldBeGood

I see Billy Gilmour has tested positive. So, like schools, presumably the whole team Will have to isolate? 😃

And the English?

That's a very good point!

My 19 year old DS went out with friends to watch the game on Friday night - had a great time, texting me all the time and on the Saturday saying how much he'd enjoyed it, how good it was to be able to watch football with friends, to see other people etc.

Saturday evening - he found out that two of the guys he was with on Friday night tested positive - lateral flow tests done for work. One has now tested positive with PCR.

DS right back down again - sad, frustrated - said it feels like a punch to the guts. He's had both jags, friends don't have symptoms.

He hit rock bottom last August and I'm really worried about him again.

Seeingadistance · 21/06/2021 17:44

And forgot to say - so if he's got to self-isolate now, then yes - every single person who's been in contact with Billy Gilmour should be as well!

user1487194234 · 21/06/2021 18:00

I thought the SFA had confirmed there are no close contacts so no one else will have to isolate?

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 18:07

How on earth can there be no close contacts?! It’s ludicrous

Rightly or wrongly (and I cba getting into a debate about it) the rules around professional sport are different, so the rules around self isolation / testing / quarantine for sportspeople are different.

I did hear today that all Olympians have to be vaccinated, which I think is a bit shit. One of the strengths of the UK's vaccination programme was that no one jumps the queue. If you're not a care worker or medically vulnerable, you wait your turn. Why should Olympic athletes be prioritised over prison officers or the police?

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 19:29

@Haudyourwheesht yeah. I think it just demonstrates yet again that the powers that be know the rules are stupid

I really hope someone does take her to court at some point as her actions are discriminatory.

@Bytheloch

Royal Ascot looks brilliant, for those lucky enough to be enjoying. Wimbledon starts soon too, I'm presuming mask-free in the strawberry and champagne queues?

The sport variant is the most accommodating variant so far🤷‍♀️

Oh, I’d missed that @Bytheloch! 🤣🤣

Yes conveniently there are no close contacts........of course there is but the rules can and have been consistently twisted when they need to be
Wakeupin2022 · 21/06/2021 19:49

Pootle there are - 2 England players Grin

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us

Am I the only one feeling a bit embarrassed by the state the Tartan army has left parts of London in? I mean, I'm glad our chances are still alive, but was there really a need to trash the place? When this was Rangers and George Square quite rightly there was wide spread condemnation, but this time - crickets. And no, I honestly can't see parents at a child's graduation 'celebrating' in such a way.
Couldn’t agree more it’s disgusting how quiet her and Humza have been over this. I guess it’s ok as long as it’s not a United Kingdom flag you are waving. It’s looking more like a dictatorship everyday
PearlclutchersInc · 21/06/2021 19:55

There's always been hypocrisy when it comes to football and its got even more rabid since Covid - what with Boris actively wanting football grounds to re-open.

What both governments want is for people to do what they're told and then when they don't, the shit hits the fan and the numbers rise, they can say "told you so, not our fault, we telt you".

Boomisshiss · 21/06/2021 19:57

@Flossy05

Our P7s weren’t even allowed a tour of the school and a couple of outdoor lessons scheduled for an in-service day when all the high school kids were off!
Same here no visit at all. Only communication with the high school had been two zoom calls . I feel so bad for them come August . Yet football fans get preferential treatment .
WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 20:03

Time to revolt

Haudyourwheesht · 21/06/2021 20:12

Again, that must be a school or a local authority decision as our school is hosting the P7s today and tomorrow. They're doing some of the day outside, and staying, for the most part, in school bubbles, but they're there.

RaraRachael · 21/06/2021 20:20

We're not allowed any P7 transition in person at all - just a few pathetic zoom meetings where half the time, the connection was ropey to say the least.

No sports days at all.

The hypocrisy of it is what really annoys me. It's not often I agree with Andy Burnham but his analogy of a couple from Manchester who've had both jags having to cancel a trip to Scotland because NS has put her foot down really summed it up for me.
Vaccines were the great hope - here we are 7 months later and still in shit street.

ElephantOfRisk · 21/06/2021 21:21

Well here we are, 3 minutes explaining the impact of the Indian/Delta variant using the actual government data:

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 21:37

@ElephantOfRisk well well. It really is nuts, isn’t it?

ElephantOfRisk · 21/06/2021 21:42

It is. Now I'm not a 5G/anti vax/conspiracy theorist, but why are they doing this?

Haudyourwheesht · 21/06/2021 21:52

Because they know the cases will go up as we open up and they feel they need to pander to the crazy paranoid people? They're terrified about being accused of doing nothing again? They literally haven't a clue what they're doing?

ElephantOfRisk · 21/06/2021 21:55

They like the control? they don't want to back pedal? They are making money on the testing equipment/masks? It keeps people focused on something other than the shitshow of their government?

Any number of reasons I guess.

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 21:57

Control; money; power

Haudyourwheesht · 21/06/2021 21:58

How long will it take before they admit that the hugely expensive, extensive, vaccine programme has been a resounding success??
