Starting this thread for those of us who are done. I don’t want to just rail or fight about it with those who still believe that government messaging is in our best interest. Enough is enough.

Thank you for starting this thread Bytheloch. It's giving me confidence to be less compliant with the ridiculous restrictions so incompetently made and applied.

On the train back from London, very fortunately the weekend before 'the match' I kept my mask off most of the time. The person sitting in front of me was my daughter and the person across the aisle was my husband.

I see Nicola has now spoken about the Andy Burnham row - she's really confused and doesn't see what the issue is, and assumes that Andy Burnham can only be using this as a political tool to position himself as the next Labour leader. She's not in the wrong at all, she's protecting Scotland (but not closing off Dundee, obviously. Strong nationalist vote there, which I'm sure is unrelated....) and if he wants a 'grown up conversation' she's willing to have one. She's got brass ones, I'll give her that. Wonder what the reaction would be if Boris suggested she was being childish when she very publicly complains about Westminster not consulting the SG (as she does fairly regularly).

ElephantOfRisk · 21/06/2021 13:17

@LizzieMacQueen

For a short while over 18s could register for the vaccine but that's closed now. So some who registered this way are being done these next few weeks. Other than this and Glasgow ( where they are reporting over 18s can come forward ) the programme is stuck at 30+ !

I really want my nearly 18 yo vaccinated before freshers week.

Both my two got a text with an appointment the week before last but the appointments were for last week when we were away (in dirty Englandshire..) and this week before DS2 and GF get back up to Aberdeen. DS1 managed to alter his before we left but DS2 and his girlfriend struggled with the on-line thing and eventually called to find that their postcode had been incorrectly input. All good now and all 3 (age 20, 19 and 19) will be done in the next couple of weeks.

@Bytheloch

My tipping point has been the football. It’s been building, but really I can no longer watch these scenes of thousands behaving in this way and yet still be expected to behave a certain way here, whilst watching our hospitality and tourism industries, arts, education and individual mental health be so seriously impacted. If further restrictions are imposed in the next few weeks (directly linked to the football) I will not be complying. I’m having my 2nd vaccine in two weeks, so this isn’t a point about not protecting others. I will continue to care about those who need extra support, as I did-both personally and professionally- even before March 2020. It’s just too much of an ask now and the hypocrisy of last night- whilst those scenes played out for the football- imposing a travel ban from Scotland to an area of England from June 21st, just around the time schools break up for the summer, is an effort to impose restrictions on anyone perhaps thinking they can fly from Manchester for a family holiday?
Completely agree.

If I was the owner of a soft play business I wouldn't be able to contain my anger now.

Pootle40 · 21/06/2021 13:42

@moonbedazzled

Prohibited implies travel is against the law, though. Not that I disagree with her sentiments, but how would she police that once they've crossed over the border to England?
It's just guidance ....to be ignored
Pootle40 · 21/06/2021 13:49

Put it this way I won't be testing my son twice a week when he starts high school and he probably won't be wearing a mask either.

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 13:51

It is actually law @Pootle40.

Ludicrous and unenforceable, but law 🤷🏻‍♀️

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 13:52

I don’t test my DS. He wears a mask cos he doesn’t mind.

rookiemere · 21/06/2021 13:55

DS doesn't test - his decision. Like I said earlier if daily testing would override 10 day isolation for DCs I would be all for it, but it doesn't so I'm not.

I'm not as bothered about masks - although I do appreciate they are an issue for those who cannot wear them for a number of reasons. Not sure if they're really helping, but if everything else was back to normal I'd be fine with masks.

ElephantOfRisk · 21/06/2021 14:03

The masks stuff does my head in. Went for lunch yesterday, our table was 3 paces from the open door. Had to wear a mask for those 3 paces and now I've bloody lost it (when I took it off to leave I think I must have dropped it while still faffing with my bag and purse and trying to get across the road). Was a nice one too. I can't really wear one for long (abuse issues) as it makes me so anxious and hot so I avoid places I'd need to wear one for longer.

I really don't know how shop and hospitality and others cope wearing them all day.

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 14:05

I’d ditch the masks before everything I think.

Anyone seen the Royal Ascot pics…? It’s really really getting stupid now. I mean, it looks brilliant, but really?

Hilarious
WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 14:10

@ElephantOfRisk I’m in a similar place with the masks and reasons. I now wear mine for brief shop dash, but have bought a lanyard to allow me to do things that take longer. I tried it out at my gym, and it’s been really good.

100% this!! I can't believe she was so rude and condescending to say 'if he wants an adult conversation' !! Andy had a very strong comeback though pointing out that he didn't know anything about it so how could he have picked up the phone. The onus was on her to pick up the phone to discuss such a move before putting it in place!
Bytheloch · 21/06/2021 14:22

Royal Ascot looks brilliant, for those lucky enough to be enjoying. Wimbledon starts soon too, I'm presuming mask-free in the strawberry and champagne queues?

The sport variant is the most accommodating variant so far🤷‍♀️

What sort of lanyard? I need to stop doing all my shopping on click and collect as getting fed up of having to rearrange my meal plan, having stuff arrived bashed, short and weird use by dates etc. I need to start actually going into the shops but I struggle wearing a mask for that long and don't want to be going in and out multiple times for smaller shops.

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 14:51

I just ordered a sunflower exempt one of Amazon @ElephantOfRisk. I figure if I can’t go about my normal business because of mask panic then it’s justified.

sparkle17 · 21/06/2021 15:00

I hate all this testing.
Just had all my kids tested this morning as they are coughing we go away on a weeks holiday on Friday. So stressed that we won't be able to go.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 21/06/2021 15:04

I'm embarrassed by NS. Her travel ban is not only illogical and unjustifiable, it's completely unenforceable.

Ah right, i was envisaging some sort of lanyard face mask - not quite with it today (or ever...)
ssd · 21/06/2021 16:49

Im laughing at this, i need to wear a mask all day at work, maybe i should order one too

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 17:09

I hope that’s not a dig? If so, it’s unkind.

mibbelucieachwell · 21/06/2021 17:19

I don't have a significant difficulty in wearing a mask fortunately, but I still find the sight of so many people covering their faces slightly disturbing.

It would be very difficult on a rough sea crossing. I had a wee while of nausea on a recent boat trip. Feeling sick while wearing a mask would be awful.

Listening to John Swinney is never much fun,but he sounded ridiculous this morning on Radio Scotland
Totally unconvincing ,don't think even he believed what he was saying
Can't believe they announced the travel ban to Manchester on the same day as 10s of 1000s of Scottish fans descended on London
What would MS have said if the same amount of English fans had congregated in George Square
Does wearing Tartan protect you from Covid
