Starting this thread for those of us who are done. I don’t want to just rail or fight about it with those who still believe that government messaging is in our best interest. Enough is enough.

Yep its really shit. And they'll never be 18 or 21 again. So much has been missed.

Bytheloch · 21/06/2021 09:42

A game of rounders instead? FFS.

@Haudyourwheesht

There are also a lot of 'STICK TO THE RULES ITS YOUR FAULT THERE ARE RESTRICTIONS IVE NOT HUGGED MY GRAN IN 3 YEARS THE THIRD WAVE WILL BE HERE SOON AND ITLL ALL BE YOUR FAULT' type posters.
I feel this. I never got to hug my gran in the year leading up to her dying. Barely anyone got to say goodbye to her. What a miserable last year she lived just to die of covid anyway despite us all taking it seriously. I’m done now.
mibbelucieachwell · 21/06/2021 09:47

I've taken to thinking about how I can get away with being unco-operative with the government now. It's better for my mental and therefore physical health as I'm (another poster) who's furious with the government's incompetence and ridiculous rules. Anger and the feeling of having no control is detrimental to mental health so if I can attempt to take back some control that's better for the NHS.

My plan is only to do lateral flow tests if I get symptoms, but in the unlikely event of testing positive I won't report it or do a PCR test. I'll keep my distance from DH as far as is practical and won't go in any other buildings or near anyone else but I will go for a walk somewhere quiet.

I'm another person whose life is dominated by the fear of having to self isolate or cause my son to have to self isolate when he visits. He's about to graduate with a music degree and is trying to eke out a living as a self employed musician. He has a few gigs coming up and I don't know if he would get any government assistance in the event of having to self isolate. In theory help is available but it's really difficult to get it. It wouldn't compensate for the potential loss of work that he might have got through doing individual one off gigs.

If the government doesn't have the competence to use the data that demonstrates how rare reinfection is and how asymptomatic infection reduces the chance of transmission to make rules that are proportionate to the risks then I'm not going to follow their rules if I think it's safe not to and I can avoid being found out.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Bytheloch · 21/06/2021 10:09

Really feel this is a turning point though, the Euros has helped with exposing the hypocrisy and double standards. I’m assuming there will be an attempt to put more restrictions in place to cover the school holidays, let’s hope I’m wrong...

(As an aside, I heard there’s to be a protest in Edinburgh today by those in the wedding industry and couples impacted...if anyone on here is joining that today🙌🏻)

Enough is enough.

DD4's school really tried to give them the best send off they could. The year group had an outdoor assembly, the speeches had them all tearing up (I welled up just listening to her account) cakes a really good local butcher did a bbq , they brought speakers out to have outdoor social dancing but nobody bothered in the end they all just milled around signing shirts and getting teachers to sign their yearbooks. When it was time to leave the staff lined the driveway and applauded them out .

They all met up in a local park wearing their hoodies and having a carry out. She had a fab day and I made sure I gushed gratefully in the school Twitter feed as I know how exhausted the staff are due to some particularly tragic events it's been an awful year for them.

DD3 was in the car when I dropped DD4 off at the park and she was heartbroken listening to what they had put on as she'd been S6 last year and was devastated to miss out her last day.

LizzieMacQueen · 21/06/2021 10:14

Did anyone hear John Swinney on the radio this morning? Christ, this was a national broadcast and he's blethering on, can't justify the lack of discussion over Manchester. It was the Today prog R4 just after 7.

52andblue · 21/06/2021 10:16

@trappedsincesundaymorn

She really hasn't thought through the travel ban to Manchester/Salford. Is she not aware that the train to London/Birmingham goes through Manchester Piccadilly. Buy a ticket to Birmingham and get off at Manchester. It's not an enforceable ban does she not understand that. Silly woman.
It's all headlines though, isn't it? Like the pontificating about closing the Border with England earlier this year. Almost impossible to Police. But it made good headlines.
MaybeCrazy2 · 21/06/2021 10:19

I’m in England but just watched last nights news and was quite shocked about how far behind Scotland is with vaccines and also now this travel ban. They seem to be going backwards! I admit I was glad that I wasn’t living in Scotland, I would be done too!

Whycangirlsbesonasty · 21/06/2021 10:22

I’m not sure it is good headlines though is it. Andy Burnham is generally quite well respected and he has gone in hard highlighting her hypocrisy. Good.

latissimusdorsi · 21/06/2021 10:26

Actually @MaybeCrazy2 the report on the news last night was wrong. I think they said people in 30s we're getting jab?
I have an 18 year old getting her 1st jab next week (and 3 of her friends have appointments then too)

I heard him on Radio Scotland. Sounded unconvinced himself. Pushed back responsibilities to Police Scotland for any questions around legal enforcement. Couldn’t/didn’t answer whether a similar ban will be introduced re Dundee. Sheepish response in relation to the 20k football fans who travelled to London.

Also done.

Can’t see my child leave primary school this week.

The football broke me.

If I get symptoms I also won’t test. I’m sick of it all. My children are the covid scrap heap.

Bytheloch · 21/06/2021 10:41

Oh @Lidlfix good on your DC’s school, that’s fantastic what they were able to deliver for the leavers. (Think that would finish me 😭 seeing the teachers applauding on the driveway)

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 10:42

I’d protest now as it’s not just the 5G lizard people.

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 10:43

@Lidlfix that’s so nice about your Dd. I do think teachers have been bloody amazing through this. My boy’s school have been brilliant given the constraints.

rookiemere · 21/06/2021 10:43

The Manchester travel ban is such a ludicrous own goal. If she had just advised people to exercise caution it would have been fine, but a specific ban at this point is crazy. I'd certainly not be changing any plans if I was meant to be going there, particularly as with the football viewings pushing up infections, we'll doubtless be back in lockdown at some point.

Wakeupin2022 · 21/06/2021 10:48

One thing to mention regarding vaccines- the uptake I'm Scotland will be very high. It may end up that a higher percentage of the Scottish population will be vaccinated compared to England.

LizzieMacQueen · 21/06/2021 11:01

For a short while over 18s could register for the vaccine but that's closed now. So some who registered this way are being done these next few weeks. Other than this and Glasgow ( where they are reporting over 18s can come forward ) the programme is stuck at 30+ !

I really want my nearly 18 yo vaccinated before freshers week.

NotSoLongGoodbye · 21/06/2021 11:07

I have had enough too. The travel ban to Manchester / Salford while at the same time we saw football fans travelling to london without tickets, without masks, with SD and without tests. Meanwhile school was shut because of covid outbreak - transmitted mainly through adults because teachers / PSA weren't prioritised for vaccine. Its a disgrace

NotSoLongGoodbye · 21/06/2021 11:09

And most of the cases at school were asymptomatic / mild - only picked up because parents did additional testing

ssd · 21/06/2021 11:12

Not Glasgow, only a few postcodes on the southside.
latissimusdorsi · 21/06/2021 11:17

@LizzieMacQueen freshers week?
You're hopeful! Will need a major shift in thinking by the universities between now and sept

Bytheloch · 21/06/2021 11:33

Yes, that’s where I’m at too. That is not me of pre 2020. I'm beyond done (have I mentioned that?🤣) - so now will look out for relevant and impactful ways of protesting. Tbh I’ve introduced little things- such as not following the ridiculous mask on/off rules, I was asked to put my mask on at a restaurant to walk across an outdoor dining area to the car park, which we were asked to do as we paid the bill at our table where we had sat unmasked for an hour🤪 Utterly, bonkers.

Enough is enough.

I see Billy Gilmour has tested positive. So, like schools, presumably the whole team
Will have to isolate? 😃

And the English?
