Starting this thread for those of us who are done. I don’t want to just rail or fight about it with those who still believe that government messaging is in our best interest. Enough is enough.

@annabelindajane

Can’t we just say to people who are anxious about travel just to stay at home and let everyone else get on with it ?
Yes!
ssd · 25/06/2021 10:15

And sneering at folk who are still worried but working out the house 5 days a week and getting ridiculously busy public transport whilst you're sitting in the fucking house is pissing me off too

ssd · 25/06/2021 10:17

And these ridiculous rules we have to follow dont even keep us safe, its just paying lip service to the guidelines whilst cramming as many people into the store as possible

These sorts of comments are just stupid. Like the the anxious or the brave have any say in the fucking guidelines. Follow them or dont follow them. I dont actually care now. But dont make out the government asks the people what they should do. But as i said before its easy to snipe at others. Ive not met anyone scared to travel anywhere but i guess all the mnetters wfm meet all sorts every day..
ssd · 25/06/2021 10:26

Anyway thats today's rant

Bytheloch · 25/06/2021 10:31

With all due respect, I’ve yet to see a crammed shop. Quite the opposite, it’s like a flipping ghost town in our local city centre unless you’re at the opening of a fabulous new shopping centre in Edinburgh. People at the shops are supporting those industries too, yet you can be shouted at to scan the track code, walk a certain route or have your mask exemption scrutinised. The minute I don’t have to wear a mask to walk around a shop or follow a pointless one way system, I’ll be there as much as I did pre March 2020.

I do feel for anyone having to work in a mask/shield every day, but if the retail sector collapsed (alongside the travel industry) through lack of consumer spending, the mask wearing would be the least of everyone’s worries.

Enough is enough.

No comments are stupid on a thread about being done with all the rules, Enough is enough. For folk who are not done, this is probably not a good thread for them.

Thank goodness school has packed up for the summer. No longer will I have to sit feeling like I've wet myself for the rest of the day, due to the manic spraying of the hard, uncomfortable collapsible chairs in the staff room sorry gym hall.

Can we catch Covid off somebody else's bum?

Another ridiculous rule.

tigger1001 · 25/06/2021 10:38

Was at McDonald's yesterday - went through the drive through. Paid using Apple Pay on my phone so no touching of the machine - still saw the worker wipe down the machine afterwards, still wearing the same gloves she had on before. It's just nuts!

ssd · 25/06/2021 11:04

My shop is crammed in certain areas, the floor i work on

Bytheloch · 25/06/2021 11:05

Congrats on getting to the end of term anyway. Let’s all hope for no wet bums in AugustGrin

I know you started the thread but its free for anyone to post on. Saying enough is enough multiple times doesn't make you any more done than me. Its clear we are all done with different things.
Bytheloch · 25/06/2021 11:07

Well that’s good to hear, people are happy to be supporting and back in shops. That’s what this thread is here to celebrate.

Yes people are wanting to shop again. They are just fed up with the rules that make no sense.

ssd · 25/06/2021 11:08

And retail workers are too

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 25/06/2021 11:38

ssd you've highlighted the big conundrum: some people want to shop "as normal" ie, like it was 2019. But it's not normal yet. And you still have to wear a horrible mask all day, and follow other rules, which is definitely not like 2019.

WouldBeGood · 25/06/2021 11:54

@ssd but it’s ok for you to sneer at people who can’t wear masks, want to shop, or don’t agree with you? 🤷🏻‍♀️

rookiemere · 25/06/2021 12:54

I was hoping that one good thing to come from covid would be less people walking around the shops with dreadful coughs and less encroachment of my personal space.

Frankly I could give less of a feck if I catch covid from a health point of view - double jabbed and pretty sure I had it already - but I really coud do without having my summer plans screwed up and the numbers are pretty high in Edinburgh. Today in the charity shop some woman was practically on top of me hacking away, so @ssd I can imagine in must be hard going in retail with some of these individuals, particularly if you are concerned about catching it.

Bytheloch · 25/06/2021 13:19

ssd not without sympathy, I witnessed a customer kicking off about an item she was returning and pulled her mask down to raise her voice*. Queue formed as a result. I supppose for me, that’s a reminder of the norm, rude customers feel like the good old days, always dealing with those, right? Those who walk around coughing, not covering mouths and have no hygiene standards on a hot day...it’s no different from office colleagues pre 2020, but now we have raggidy masks on and staff shouting at us to keep left (or telling us to ‘stay safe’ through a tannoyAngry)

*not me, I promise Grin

latissimusdorsi · 25/06/2021 13:28

That reminds me of receptionist at hotel we stayed at few weeks ago. She pulled down her mask every time she spoke to us then pulled it back up to nicely cover her mouth and nose when she finished talking Hmm

ssd · 25/06/2021 13:34

Sorry if i come across as sneery @wouldbegood, i dont mean to. Im just fed up.
And yes, @Bytheloch, the feckin tannoysAngry they annoy the life out of me and customers cant hear you speaking over them so come even closerAngry

ssd · 25/06/2021 13:37

Most customers are nice though, i know they feel the same as me

Haudyourwheesht · 25/06/2021 22:23

You don't come across as sneery, @ssd, just anxious. There's a feeling that we should all be ready to come out of this situation but the impact of the pandemic, and it's related restrictions are still all around. You shouldn't judge anyone on here, or anywhere else, until you've walked a mile in their shoes. We've all had our own issues and difficulties during this pandemic.

Pootle40 · 25/06/2021 22:37

Working from home day in day out for 16 months is not the jolly some people seem to think it is. I always read 'sitting at home' as if I'm some sort of privileged lazy bastard rather than someone having to tolerate their own circumstances due to the career they chose.

ElephantOfRisk · 25/06/2021 23:21

The working at home. You can never get away from work, it's invaded your house now, you might be having to work at your dining table or in your bedroom, you can no longer be bothered going outside etc.

I used to work one day a week at home pre covid. It was great, got peace from passing colleagues to catch up on reading and emails, got to hang a washing out in your lunch break, I used to have omelette Wednesdays for lunch as a change from sandwiches, could plan any deliveries for that day, slightly longer lie in the morning and "home" early so could cook something nice. If i could get 2 days at home in the week, even better. Always dreamt that it would be great to be home full time. I could maybe get walks at lunchtime on nice days, maybe exercise on others.

The reality is different - you can't be bothered doing any of that after being stuck at home for a while. I think it's a grass is greener situation tbh. We all think the other people have it better but the reality is that it's all shite. Working at home would be more bearable if life was normal outside of work, working outside the home is also shit because of the rules and regulations.
