So irresponsible. Here we go again. Will Glasgow ever be out of lockdown?

Im glad to see Sturgeon condemning the anti Catholic singing yesterday. Thats unusual in itself.

Selkiesarereal · 16/05/2021 12:53

I think part of the problem was lockdown as a whole bunch of arseholes who probably have never been to a match suddenly saw a way to party without any police action.

I think the real fans stayed away although questions should have been asked about the plane coming in from Belfast full of fans surely that was a huge warning to the authorities?

It’s an aside, having grown up in a place with no sectarianism it is interesting to see bias coming through on some posters, it seems that this weird shit is just so ingrained that people really don’t see it.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 16/05/2021 12:57

I hate all this oh our fans would never do this and our fans always behave! You just need to google and see that it happens to every team.

Hmm I don't think anyone said that, just that rangers fans are worse than any other team, not just worse than celtic.

Morgan12 · 16/05/2021 13:02

Celtic fans wouldn't have done what Rangers fans did yesterday. Celtic fans went to Seville in their hundreds and thousands and caused no bother at all. Rangers can't even do that in their own city. They literally trash everywhere they go. Every single time.

Also what's the protestant hating song that Celtic sing 🤔 Rangers fans love to say this whilst they chant about fenian blood.

No, it was organised by a group called The Union Bears - the march across the squinty bridge and onto George Square. They most definitely attend matches!

@RaspberryCoulis
I don't re call Edinburgh City Centre being turned into a no go area due to Hibs and Hearts fans battering others. It's years since I lived there myself, I guess things have changed and you'll prove me wrong.

Will this be top news on the BBC tonight? I doubt it.

Absolutely! Usually it's all just ignored!

Will be interested to see whether it’s Edinburgh or Perth that gets smashed up later on if it’s “Scottish football” that is the problem.

Hmm

On a random note - anyone else getting an ad for a Rangers T-shirt at the bottom of this thread? Bit misplaced

No
😂😂

ssd · 16/05/2021 14:01

No

Weareallabitcomplicated · 16/05/2021 14:12

Well, I checked the George Square webcam just now and it's mobbed! Absolutely full but with a Palestinian protest.

Seems a bit unfair on the Rangers support that this isn't getting the same criticism for crowd gathering.

thedevilinablackdress · 16/05/2021 14:15

No one should be gathering. But I bet whoever is there now isn't trashing the place and fighting amongst themselves.

Weareallabitcomplicated · 16/05/2021 14:16

@ssd

Yes totally. Hundreds of Celtic fans gathered outside the stadium. As opposed to thousands marching from ibrox to George Square, wrecking the place when they got there.

To compare them is just stupid.

Just asked DH about this. He laughed saying Celtic fans gathered to attack their own team not that long ago and they needed to build fences to give protection. Absolute thugs.

He's a Hibs fan. Says Celtic are different end of the same jobby as Rangers Confused

Morgan12 · 16/05/2021 14:34

Celtic have won 22 trophies in the last 10 years. And never done what Rangers fans did yesterday. Never.

Always good to know what the menz say

mibbelucieachwell · 16/05/2021 14:46

weareall are today's protesters setting off flares me fireworks, urinating in public, exposing themselves, fighting amongst themselves, fighting with the police, making a huge amount of litter or singing offensive songs? If not it doesn't sound like it's comparable with yesterday.

Wakeupin2022 · 16/05/2021 14:51

@ssd

Posters here need to realise the difference between the usual pig ignorant drunk fans of either side fighting in the streets as against thousands marching with a police escort. Twice. During a pandemic.
Some Rangers fans behaved appallingly yesterday. But you really need to take of those green tinted specs.
ssd · 16/05/2021 15:05

Second person told here to take off their green tinted specs. That seems to be the best come back people can come up with. Bit like asking why England votes tory .."But at least its not Corbyn"!!!!

Sad really

Wondered how long it would take to mention the Palestine protest. 👏
HirplesWithHaggis · 16/05/2021 15:18

Back in the day (early '80's), Edinburgh streets were indeed treated to running battles between Hearts and Hibs fans, or "casuals" as they were known. Doesn't happen now, what stopped it? Can lessons be learned?

IsThePopeCatholic · 16/05/2021 15:25

Sectarianism is alive and well in Glasgow.

Weareallabitcomplicated · 16/05/2021 15:25

Celtic fans organising a gathering today

Zero irony Grin

Here we go again with the Rangers fans.
Morgan12 · 16/05/2021 15:33

Celtic fans? You mean people protesting against what's happening in Palestine?

I'm sure doctors won't be called in on their day off for whats happening today.

These two events are incomparable and you're embarrassing yourself by trying to make them so.

SempreSuiGeneris · 16/05/2021 15:34

Just since we're really doing the holier than thou. Hibs fans are the ones with the penchant for throwing glass bottles at players on the pitch.

It was jarring to see actual fans at the FA Cup yesterday and I wonder if the SG could have avoided a congregation of the undesirables had they permitted some sort of fan support within the Ground for the match and presentation. May at least have kept it all within the vicinity of Ibrox where there seem to be better understood "House Rules".

Also questions around why were measures not in place to stop a large scale procession to the City Centre given bother when Rangers won.

The mixed last minute messaging around keeping Glasgow in special measures is certainly doing nothing to keep everyone on a calm even keel. Small groups in hospitality venues are much easier to control than 20,000 strong street mobs. Who knew?

SandyCane · 16/05/2021 15:41

This thread is actually embarrassing.

What if it was Celtic fans, what about Manchester, what about Kenmure St/Palestine.

The lengths some people will go to to excuse male violence is ridiculous.

No matter the team, taking football out of it and not talking about what has gone before, taking yesterday as an isolated incident. It was a disgrace! It was violent and it was a riot. Why some people on this thread are trying to excuse that or justify it or make it into something else i genuinely can't get my head around that.

The sooner we stop excusing male violence and calling it what it is the better.

Reports of women being attacked in the city or at train stations etc last night, police injured, damages to business. It is violence and there is no excuse. That is not a celebration. It has NOTHING to with football. Please stop trying to make excuses and call it what it is.

And it would be violence if it was Celtic fans, or golf fans or dog walkers or religious groups, I don't care about teams.
