101 demented. They prescribed me antibiotics without seeing me and got the prescription sent to the chemist and DH picked it up but I'm sure some deliver.

It's a bit of a faff running the gauntlet of "do you have covid?" rather than "I have an infected elbow". A Dr phoned me back and did the prescription so that bit was straightforward.

Hope you get sorted and feel better soon.

Scottishskifun · 17/05/2021 13:04

@mibbelucieachwell most places in England unless next to the border haven't a scoobies on the differences between England/Scotland rules so I wouldn't worry on that front!

We have booked multiple trips to England for this very reason later in summer!

mibbelucieachwell · 17/05/2021 13:06

I like your style Scottishskifun

mibbelucieachwell · 17/05/2021 13:07

A friend got a prescription for a uti by telephoned from her GP recently.

Lockdownbear · 17/05/2021 13:40

Sometimes the Drs don't realise the Pharmacist work to different rules.

Even years ago asking for thrush cream. Dr, just go to Pharmacist. I can't give you it when pregnant, back to the Docs I go.

LO had an ear infection, Pharmacist said I need a Docs prescription phone them and see if they'll fax it. Nope had to rush to GP, collect DC1, then back to Pharmacist with the bit of paper to get the drops she was going to give me in the first place. Just glad I had a car.

dementedma · 17/05/2021 13:48

Thanks all. Got prescription in the end!

Lockdownbear · 17/05/2021 13:50

Good stuff, hope you feel better soon.

Does anyone know when GPs will be allowed to offer routine appointments again? When in level 0 maybe? I have health anxiety and a whole bunch of niggly things that are most likely nothing but causing some distress, but no option currently but to try to get an 'emergency' appointment (which I then feel bad about). Quite honestly, just knowing the option of a routine appointment was there would probably calm me down a lot in itself!

WouldBeGood · 17/05/2021 14:25

You can get appointments which are not emergency appointments @Lockdownbear. I’ve had routine ones at my surgery although they make you call on the day for a telephone call back.

WouldBeGood · 17/05/2021 14:25

Oops that’s was for @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 17/05/2021 14:33

Thanks @WouldBeGood, perhaps it's just my GP then! Their website and phone intro both make clear they are not doing anything routine, and you can only get on the day telephone triage then maybe an appointment in person if the Dr thinks you need it.

WouldBeGood · 17/05/2021 14:36

That’s how mine works @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us and I thought it was emergencies only, but it’s not. Just run the gauntlet of the receptionist and get sorted!

latissimusdorsi · 17/05/2021 14:42

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us they are offering routine appointments. It's just a different way of booking as it all goes through a triage system.
I had DC1 at Dr few months ago for something very routine. Was just a case of giving a little info to receptionist (don't need much detail) then telephone appointment was arranged, then Dr decided she wanted to see in person so gave us appointment to come in couple days later.
Ive had friends gone with routine skin condition. DH had routine medication review.
Honestly ignore the stuff on their website and phone message. Hasn't been updated since March 2020 in most cases placesAngry

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 17/05/2021 14:48

Thanks @latissimusdorsi. It is reassuring to know that they've been taken off the emergency footing and I needn't feel bad about ringing. You're probably right and they just haven't updated stuff!

Haudyourwheesht · 17/05/2021 15:33

@mibbelucieachwell

Oh dementedma no wonder you're a demented ma. I hope your GP gets you a prescription ASAP.

DH won't break the rules to go to the far north and Orkney. I don't think his relations would have us anyway. Sad

I think I'll try to get to London unless the hotel says we're not allowed. But how would they know which level we're in? How can it be legal to stop us going to another part of the same country? The country that has just recorded my negative lateral flow test. The country that has just procured the vaccines used in Scotland. AngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

And another thing Grin Last Tuesday Nicola said the slight increase in Scottish numbers was due to Moray . Well it bloody wasn't. It was plain to see from the publicly available data. I know this cos I'm one of those sad people who follow the numbers. So all the Glasgow business owners who are normal people and don't obsess over the numbers like me were shocked on Friday. They then had to give away the extra food they had ordered in and answer all the calls from customers cancelling their restaurant bookings.

I'm exactly the same @mibbelucieachwell I've been watching the numbers too, so wasn't surprised by the Glasgow spike. I just hoped the Gov would take vaccines into account too instead of all this knee-jerk cases shite.

If neither of us are surprised, why are the government professing to be?

Lockdownbear · 17/05/2021 16:57

My GP only does same day appointments too. Tbh it's a complete PITA.
I had a huffy receptionist refuse to give me an follow-up appointment for a weeks time when I had a 2yo en-route home from hospital. Pita. She did eventually but not before huffing and puffing.

WouldBeGood · 17/05/2021 17:06

I don’t really understand why this is, nor why you can’t book an appointment online.

OP posts:
charliebrown59 · 17/05/2021 17:29

It really is the absolute unending lack of control over major life things that's so horrid. Here we are again waiting for the numbers to tick up and our negligible freedoms disappear.

Still, I'm trying to remind myself that the vaccines are a game changer and the roll out may control the usual sequence of covid waves.

Groovee · 17/05/2021 17:32

@dementedma

I have a urine infection. GP wont see me but informed me that the Pharmacy now dispenses anti biotics so phone them. The pharmacy said sure, come on in for a consultation. I told them I was isolating for 10 days as ordered by law. They said, oh, well we can only dispense face to face. That's the rules. I said, I cant see you face to face. That's the rules. Me - so what do I do now? Them - no idea!

Give me strength.

This is why dh ended up with sepsis.
Groovee · 17/05/2021 17:34

Well I'm off to my first burlesque class in 18 months. A back injury then Covid hit. Actually looking forward to it x

WouldBeGood · 17/05/2021 17:36

Oh, @Groovee, is it fun? I’m thinking of trying it in Glasgow when they do another drop in class.

OP posts:
Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 17/05/2021 17:38

I do wonder how much time is really saved with the telephone triage system tbh. I would imagine that most people are brought in after they are triaged (because let's face it you can't reliably diagnose most things without actually physically seeing the patient), which means they all essentially need two appointments. There's so little COVID now I find it hard to believe that there are masses of potentially infected patients anymore (and even if there were they are still sanitising/wearing masks etc), and all it does is create more stress for everyone concerned.

WouldBeGood · 17/05/2021 17:53

Yes, indeed. I’m quite happy with telephone appointments tbh, just the booking method annoys me

Oh, *@Groovee*, is it fun? I’m thinking of trying it in Glasgow when they do another drop in class.
Love it. Started in 2017, but injured my back in late 2019 so had to rest. Can't wait to get my buzz again.
WouldBeGood · 17/05/2021 18:05

Enjoy, @Groovee!

I am old and fat, but they said before when I enquired that was ok 😂
