I guess it's better it's cancelled sooner rather than later. Real shame though for both tourists and those in the tourist trade.

ResilienceWanker · 01/06/2021 15:32

@shouldistop

I see EDC is remaining in level 2. Im disappointed but not surprised. We'll just go to Clydebank for softplay.
Ah, good point! Travel between tiers 1 and 2 is fine, so using those services in different areas must also be fine. Not so easy to move a wedding to a venue in a different council area, though, I suppose!
ResilienceWanker · 01/06/2021 15:35

Oh, what an Arse, riverrunning. Definitely Italian drinks in the evening sun. It's what aperol spritzes were invented for... Good call on the week off SmileWine

shouldistop · 01/06/2021 15:37

@ResilienceWanker even if travel between them wasn't allowed I'd be doing it anyway. Fed up with the whole lot of it now.

WouldBeGood · 01/06/2021 15:45

I was up in Glasgow today and the man who worked in the shop and several customers were from SL. Scotland is too small for these stupid levels.

The usually bustling cafe we go to was dead, and a lot of shops, bars and restaurants just haven’t reopened. Pleased to see that outside mask wearing was nonexistent. Though one was liberally sanitised on entering anywhere.

Good day despite waking up super anxious. I keep having lockdown dreams. Went to yoga this morning so that was helpful.

We were in Argyll at the weekend and the road up to Balloch was crazy. We basically hit the end of the que on the bit between the M8 and the Erskine bridge, it was basically a big traffic jam, from there to the roundabout at Balloch.

No way all those people were from everywhere but Glasgow. TBH I don't blame the Glasgow people for getting away even for the day or even a couple of days if they could.

WouldBeGood · 01/06/2021 16:04

Oh yes, @Lockdownbear we came back down via Stirling on Saturday and the road north was solid

The weather was glorious over the weekend too.

It was. Long may it continue 🌞

Ah maybe every Tuesday will have to be Italian drinks night!

forfucksakenett · 01/06/2021 16:56

@Lockdownbear

The rules about softplay are ridiculous. Just bonkers. They bang on about kids being unfit, and sitting on xboxes, yet the places they could go to on a wet day are shut.

I've just read they estimate the amount of exercise kids get is down by a 3rd since the start of the pandemic. Kids have got lazy, forgotten how to play and whats ScotGov doing to help, Sweet FA.

Any summer programmes set out?
Any initiatives to get kids back out playing?

Certainly the weather hasn't helped but its the combination of factors.

I mean kids can actually go outside to play. All kids sport is back on. I don't think soft plays are required for children's fitness.
shouldistop · 01/06/2021 17:09

@forfucksakenett all kids sport is allowed to be back on but in reality a lot of the council halls that facilitate the sport still aren't open.

Scottishskifun · 01/06/2021 17:51

@forfucksakenett have you tried to find a organised sports activity for an under 3 recently?

Only one in our area which takes under 3 is Rugbytots which has a 3 month wait list!
Kids gymny sessions all still shut, football is from 4, no toddler yoga. It's pretty much park or park which when peeing it down with rain for weeks on end is more than miserable!

forfucksakenett · 01/06/2021 18:12

Yes my two year old daughter has been back at dancing for weeks. I think that suggesting that the SG is responsible for not enough sporting activities under three is a bit of a leap. Rugbytots is a private company is it not? Also suggesting that the SG should start a programme to get kids back to play is also a bit of a leap. Kids can play outdoors, in parks, etc. This all seems a bit Hmm

ssd · 01/06/2021 18:13

We went down to the solway firth at the weekend. It was quiet, roads were great. Beautiful place.

WouldBeGood · 01/06/2021 18:14

Oh, lovely @ssd. I used to live down in D&G

The garage can't fit my car in for a week 😭😭

Came in from work to find Mr G had got his dad to bring him home 🥰🥰

Lockdownbear · 01/06/2021 18:51

It's not just young kids struggling the only organised sport my 10 year old does is swimming and skiing.

By the very nature of skiing your socially distanced but all ski centres inc dry slopes were shut for months and the swimming has only just restarted.

Once kids stop running around and being active it's hard to get that fitness and motivation back.

Even watching him and pals "out playing" often they are found huddled round one of the kids phones watching YouTube!

It's great that you're DD can get into dance classes around us again they start at 3.

The biggest issue is that most of the organised activities in my area for 3 and under are either in community or council halls which can't take the number of groups they used to due to covid regs or the leisure centre which is currently a vaccination centre leaving very few options for when it's chucking it down with rain to run off steam or for kids to get an opportunity to do normal fun exercise groups especially the pre schoolers.

Softplay isn't for everyone but it's crazy that it's been shut for 15 months and for the central belt will be even longer. The businesses are right to be annoyed with the SG when they allow thousands of people to gather together to watch football but yet again young children aren't the priority.
So again football is exempt. No doubt if scotland score a goal there will be hugging etc.

I will be booking DS into our local softplay just as he went to ones in England for a bit of normal toddler time with other kids in a softplay. For me it's important to not only run off some energy in a controlled setting where he can't escape but also for some normality and exposure to other children outside of nursery setting.

WouldBeGood · 01/06/2021 19:08

@Groovee rubbish about the car, but glad MrG is home

Soft play should be open. Poor owners and poor kids.

OP posts:
ssd · 01/06/2021 19:19

I agree soft play should be open.

forfucksakenett · 01/06/2021 19:25

From a business point of view I do actually think they should be open but the whole SG are ruining our kids fitness is a bit too far.

forfucksakenett · 01/06/2021 19:25

Although to be fair I can understand the frustration now that I've read more posts.

ssd · 01/06/2021 19:28

I suppose soft play is the equivalent of nightclubs for the bigger kids.
My ds is desperate for nightclubs to open up.
